If it's too much work, I could take one of the conferences and PM it to you. The list has gotten a lot shorter now that teams are down to 53, and I'm sure there will be a lot less turnover now too.
Yeah, I'll do it. Maybe tonight...

1-N.Rackers kicks 39 yards from ARI 30 to SF 31. 51-T.Spikes MUFFS catch, RECOVERED by ARI-22-M.Ware at SF 33.
Notice the other ex-Eagle making the plays there.
QuoteMcMullen agrees
For those wondering how the Seahawks could release a wide receiver (Jordan Kent) when they're desperate for wide receivers, help is on the way.
The team has agreed to terms with Billy McMullen, who has played in a West Coast passing game with the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings and was in training camp this summer with the Washington taterskins.
McMullen was the choice from six wide receivers who worked out today. The group that also included – and was first reported by ESPN.com's John Clayton – Samie Parker, Mark Bradford, Davale Ellis, Mike Haas and Michael Garperson.
That Mike Garperson would have really helped them!
So where's the help?
What are you talking about? That McMullen signing will help every team they play this year.
Mentioned in the injury thread, Hollis was placed on IR
so was Simoneau.
LaJuan Ramsey signed with the Colts
Ryan Moats signed to the Cardinals practice squad

QuoteGiants' McDougle Works With Troubled Youngsters
By JOE LAPOINTE
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Jerome McDougle lifted his shirt to show the surgical scar on his abdomen. On the sides of the mark were the tattooed words "True Story."
A piece of a bullet remains inside him. Doctors said it would be too risky to remove it. "At first, it used to feel funny," McDougle said of his belly bullet. "But after a while, I got used to it."
McDougle is a defensive end with the Giants, who acquired him Aug. 31, the day after Philadelphia waived him. He is in his sixth year of a professional career that began hopefully in 2003, when he was drafted in the first round from the University of Miami.
All has not gone well since then. Much of McDougle's disappointment has come from medical problems, including the gunshot wound he sustained in the summer of 2005 when he was robbed while he was sitting in his parked silver Mercedes in Miami. Four teenagers were later arrested in the case.
He missed that season, but it could have been worse.
"They had a gun to my head," McDougle said. "I was like, 'Take what you want.' There's a 50-50 chance the gun could go off. One mistake and I'm not here to talk to you."
Despite his travails, which include missing last season with a ruptured triceps tendon, McDougle said he maintained a positive attitude and was optimistic about life on and off the field.
He practices what he preaches by counseling teenagers at the Miami-Dade Regional Juvenile Detention Center. Why would a man spend part of his off-season giving advice to the same sort of youths who robbed and shot him?
"I want to make a difference," McDougle said. "I had some problems when I was young. I really know how it feels to be going down that path. It's just like a spiral, but you can break it."
McDougle says he tells youngsters that "it's not cool to be shot" and that they should not glorify gunplay the way some rappers do.
"Kids really listen to me," McDougle said. "If you can touch one or two of them, you've done the community a real service."
McDougle, 29, signed a one-year contract with the Giants. He said he wanted to work in law enforcement and youth counseling after his playing career. David Delancy, who supervised McDougle's work at the detention center, said McDougle was ideal for the role.
"It's one of his callings," Delancy said in a telephone interview. "He reached out to those kids. It was so powerful. You could see some of the guys come to tears. His heart is so forgiving. He didn't do it in the Hollywood fashion. He didn't show up with an entourage. He came by himself. We were wowed by it."
McDougle's work was coordinated by the N.F.L.'s player development department, which provides guidance for careers outside of football; it also gives players financial advice and counseling for behavioral and psychological problems.
Christopher Henry, the director of player development, said 75 to 80 players a year took advantage of internship programs. Henry said McDougle was also part of a panel that offered advice to rookies during a three-day symposium in June.
McDougle joined the Giants a few days before their regular-season opener against Washington, and some of the offensive linemen teased quarterback Eli Manning about his new teammate. In Manning's first game as a rookie in 2004, McDougle greeted him with a thundering sack.
But McDougle said Manning welcomed him: "He said, 'Nice to see you.' He's a really good guy."
Another sack in McDougle's career brought him a different kind of notice. Against Tampa Bay in 2006, he tackled quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, but the 9-yard loss was negated because of a 15-yard face-mask penalty against McDougle. He then made it worse by kicking the penalty flag for another 15-yard penalty, for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The penalties helped set up a field goal for the Buccaneers, who defeated the Eagles, 23-21.
"That was one of those things where you live and you learn," McDougle said.
In limited action with the Giants, McDougle has shown the double-edged sword of his aggressive play. In the opener, he broke through the blocking while playing with the punt-return unit but was penalized for roughing the kicker.
Last Sunday at St. Louis, McDougle lined up at defensive end and in the third quarter, he broke up a shovel-pass play to Antonio Pittman by stopping him for a 2-yard loss. Justin Tuck, a starting defensive end, said McDougle allowed other players some flexibility. Tuck can move from the end to an interior tackle position and confuse blockers or beat them in mismatches. Tuck did just that when he returned an interception for a 41-yard score in the fourth quarter.
"Jerome is an upbeat guy who comes into the locker room ready to work," Tuck said. "We got the best of that deal."
Mathias Kiwanuka, the other starting defensive end, said McDougle was fast off the ball on the field and upbeat in the meeting rooms.
"We love him," Kiwanuka said. "We embrace him and we think he's a great addition. He's another piece of the puzzle. I think he was a steal."
General Manager Jerry Reese said the Giants were "a little bit lucky" when McDougle became available shortly after Osi Umenyiora sustained a season-ending injury to his left knee.
"When he came in, we sat down and had a long talk," Reese said of McDougle. "He's been through some things in his life. He's put a lot behind him. He's matured a lot. He's grateful to be where he is right now."
Of his rapid change of circumstances, McDougle said: "It's been a blur. It feels good when somebody wants you."
McDougle said he was not discouraged when the Eagles cut him, leaving him briefly without a job.
"Whatever happens, happens," he said. "I'm in a good situation. I just trust in God."
MOCK MOCK
Also, he's inactive for week 3.
QuoteCHARGERS SIGN SCOTT
Posted by Mike Florio on September 23, 2008, 9:44 p.m.
The San Diego Chargers have announced the addition of veteran defensive tackle Ian Scott.
Scott was a fourth-round pick of the Bears in 2003. He signed with the Eagles in 2007 but landed on injured reserve.
Scott signed the Panthers in April 2008, but was cut before the start of the season.
To make room for Scott, the Chargers cut rookie cornerback DeJuan Tribble. The sixth-round pick from Boston College was involved in a bar fight in 2007 along with Lions tackle Gosder Cherilus, a first-round pick.
Dhani Jones is currently tied for second in the NFL for tackles.

QuoteVIKES GOT SNOOKERED BY TAPEH
Posted by Mike Florio on October 13, 2008, 5:49 p.m.
The Vikings opted against re-signing Pro Bowl fullback Tony Richardson after the 2007 season, choosing instead to acquire Thomas Tapeh via free agency.
Several months later, the Vikes are having some buyer's remorse. The problem? Tapeh had knee surgery in February, and didn't disclose it to the Vikings.
"I think his knee bothered him a little bit when he came in here," coach Brad Childress said Monday, "and I'm finding out now that he did have an offseason cleanup in February, which I wish he would have shared with us."
Tapeh has appeared in only two of six games during his first year with the Vikings. Though supposedly healthy, Tapeh is routinely deactivated, ostensibly because he doesn't play special teams.
We tend to think that Chilly has opted to give Tapeh the cold shoulder in retaliation for hiding the truth about his knee.
And, actually, that's one coach's decision from Childress with which we can agree.
LaJuan Ramsey was released by the Colts to make room for McCargo
QuoteSeahawks waived WR Billy McMullen.
McMullen signed with Seahawks when they were ravaged by wide receiver injuries, but his own compound fracture in his right pinkie will end his Seattle career. He finishes with 124 yards in only two games played after being out of the league in 2007.
QuoteBuc Cut After DUI Arrest
By VALERIE KALFRIN
Published: October 19, 2008
TAMPA - Matt McCoy, a linebacker signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent this year, was released from the team Saturday after being arrested earlier that morning on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.
Jail records show Tampa police arrested McCoy at 4:11 a.m. at West Paul Avenue and South Sheridan Road, less than 500 feet from his home in the Gandy/Sun Bay South neighborhood.
About 4 p.m., the Buccaneers announced in a news release that they had promoted wide receiver Brian Clark from the practice squad to the active roster and released McCoy "to make room."
McCoy, 26, was released from Orient Road Jail after posting $500 bail.
Police stopped McCoy driving a 2008 BMW after seeing the vehicle heading west in the eastbound lanes of Gandy Boulevard, according to an arrest affidavit. McCoy swayed while he was standing, had glazed eyes and the odor of alcohol, the affidavit stated. He refused to undergo field sobriety tests, citing his attorney's advice, the affidavit said.
McCoy refused a breath-alcohol test, jail records say.
McCoy is a California native who was signed by the Bucs as a free agent in March, according to the Buccaneers Web site. Before coming to Tampa, he had been signed by New Orleans as a free agent and drafted by Philadelphia, the Web site says.
He played college ball at San Diego State.

QuoteRegardless of what Visanthe Shiancoe told Minnesota gossip columnist "CJ" after he found out his dangling member was revealed to the world, Shiancoe's agent, Tony Agnone, says the Vikings tight end was "sorry it got on television." The damage-controlling Agnone also said Shiancoe's greatest concern is for "the young fans — he hopes they know it's a locker room."
That could be true. Kind of. But, Hugh Douglas, former defensive end of the Philadelphia Eagles, says he's not convinced. On today's 610 WIP morning show in Philadelphia, Douglas revealed the not-so-shocking truth that football players sometimes drop their towels on purpose once they find out the media will be around. Douglas took my phone call (for once) and offered to expand, hence completing Deadspin's wall-to-wall dong reporting for the day.
I asked Hugh if he seriously thinks Visanthe Shiancoe knew the cameras were on while he was exposed and he said that while he was playing for the Eagles, it happened so often that it became a running joke.
HD: "Cats'd be dropping their towels all the time, be butt-ass nekkid all the time, man, just trying to be funny. Especially if there were female reporters in the locker room? If they think they got it, they're gonna show their stuff."
(Note: Hugh Douglas is probably the only man left in America who can use "cats" this way and not sound like an idiot.)
HD: "I guarantee you Shiancoe or whatever his name is doesn't give a damn. And I guarantee you that if he's a single man, he's gonna get a lot more ass the next time he goes home."
So, did you drop your towel all the time too?
HD: "No, I didn't do it. But Hollis [Thomas, former Eagle, current Saint] would do it all the time. Anytime there would be a female reporter in the locker room he'd just let it all hang out. Hollis was funny like that. He'd always try to get people to look at him."
Did anybody ever look?
HD: "Oh, we caught a couple of 'em looking. Some would look all the time. But one girl, Courtney Holt? Never ever broke eye contact. "
(Note: Courtney Holt used to be a guest coordinator/producer for Comcast Sportsnet in Philly. She's now a talent booker for the Golf Channel.)
HD: "Yeah, Hollis would always try get Courtney. He'd sit there with his legs spread, rubbing lotion on his nuts. She wouldn't ever look down, though. She was a true professional."
Poor Courtney!:
HD: "Yeah, right? Poor Courtney."
So who else was a chronic towel-dropper?
HD: "Oh, [Al] Harris. Al would find out there would be media around and he'd drop his towel and walk slowly across the locker room. Then he'd be all bending over and shtein. He was into it too."
So, you're telling me that Shiancoe knew what he was doing the whole time, that it wasn't an accident?
" I'd never even heard of the guy until this happened. And the more people that know about him now, well, he's not embarrassed about what they know about him. He thinks he's got it and — obviously he does — so he's proud of it."
Thank you, Hugh. This was enlightening. Have a good holiday.
"No problem. You too."
Hopefully, Douglas vouching for Courtney Holt's locker room professionalism, even while she's confronted with yards of athlete junk, is something that will help her get an on-camera reporting job. Just not in New Orleans.
That's just awesome.

ive seen them but none will fit....ive gotten bigger and clothes back then were made way smaller
True. Its like going to a foreign country. My Starter jacket was bought in Korea when my step dad was stationed there and even though I wore an XL, he had to buy me a XXL because those people are so small.
I just read a stat about Rod Hood; he was tied for the lead in TD passes given up this year with 9.
QuoteAccording to STATS, Inc., Patriots No. 1 cornerback Ellis Hobbs [stats] tied with Arizona's Rod Hood for most touchdown passes allowed with nine. Not far behind was O'Neal, tied for third with seven, and he was benched after the loss to Pittsburgh that was one of four defeats directly attributable to shoddy pass coverage.
That two-man total of 16 touchdown passes allowed also tied with Hood and Cardinals teammate Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie for highest cornerback tandem in the league this season. Meanwhile, Samuel allowed about the same amount of completions as Hobbs (47 completions on 90 passes defended, to Hobbs' 46 on 84 defended), gave up nearly 200 fewer yards (594 to 762) and more importantly allowed only a third as many touchdowns (three). Samuel also broke up 24 passes to Hobbs' 11.

Those stats on Samuel make me giddy in the penis.

Take off the burgundy and gold glasses....deeper at corner?!
No wai.
The Eagles top 4 corners are the best top 4 in the NFL. End of story.
im talking about before the samuel signing which is what we were talking about

Nice cover. Still untrue, but at least plausible.

Jamaal Green, Border Patrol Officer.
QuoteThe dream career for some people would be to play football for the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears or the Washington taterskins.
For Jamaal Green, who once was a defensive end for all three teams, his dream was to one day work in law enforcement. His dream became a reality on Feb. 17, 2008, when he became a U.S. Border Patrol agent in the El Paso area.
"A lot of kids look up to professional athletes as heroes," said Green, who currently works at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Montana Avenue heading towards Carlsbad. "Me, I looked up to law enforcement officers as heroes."
QuoteBut after he was picked during the fourth round of the 2003 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, he was plagued by a rash of preseason injuries.
"I was five minutes away from where I grew up. It was my hometown team and everybody was excited," Green said. "During my third preseason game, I broke my right fibula and I tore a ligament. I have a plate and seven screws in my leg right now. That injury caused me to miss my whole first season in the NFL."
Green was heartbroken but determined to come back in time for the next season, but was injured again during the preseason.
"I was fortunate enough to come back and have three good games in a row," Green said. "I was projected

to be one of the starters (in the next year)."
Those expectations were shattered when Green was injured again during the preseason. After earning an NFC Championship ring with the Eagles, he was released and picked up by the Chicago Bears,

QuoteDALLAS - Rushing to see his dying mother-in-law at a Plano hospital, a NFL player found himself delayed by a Dallas officer after he was stopped in the hospital's ER parking lot.
With his wife and another woman in the car, Ryan Moats - a running back for the Houston Texans - sped his car towards the hospital on March 17. However, when he made it to the ER parking lot, they were stopped by Officer Robert Powell.
Dashcam video from the Dallas officer's patrol car captured the incident.
"Get in there," Officer Powell yelled out to Tamishia Moats, Ryan's wife, as she exited the car. "Let me see your hands. Get in there. Put your hands on the car."
"Excuse me, my mom is dying," Moats said.
Moats and the other woman ignored Officer Powell's commands and rushed inside the hospital to see her mother.
"I've got seconds before she's gone, man," Moats said to the officer.
Motes couldn't find his insurance paperwork and was desperate to leave.
"Listen, if I can't verify you have insurance...," Officer Powell said.
"My mother-in-law is dying," Moats interrupted.
"Listen to me," Officer Powell said.
"Right now," Moats said. "You're wasting my time."
"If you can't verify you have insurance, I'm going to tow your car," the officer said. "So, you either find it or I am going to tow the car."
As they argued, the officer got irritated.
"Shut your mouth," the officer said. "Shut your mouth. You can either settle down and cooperate or I can just take you to jail for running a red light."
The clash shocked Moats.
"For him to not even be sympathetic at all, and basically we're dogs or something and we don't matter, it basically shocked me," Moats said.
"I can screw you over," Officer Powell said. "I would rather not do that. You obviously will dictate everything that happens; and right now, your attitude sucks."
Twice, the hospital sent nurses to try and get the officer to let Moats go.
"We're blue coding her for the third time," the nurse said.
Even a Plano police officer stopped to make a plea for the officer to let Moats go.
"Hey, that's the nurse," the Plano officer said. "She says the mom is dying right now and she wants to know if I can get him up there."
After 20 minutes, the officer ticketed Moats for running a red light.
However, by the time Moats made it up to the ER, she had already passed.
"I went up after she passed and held her hand, but she was already gone," Moats said.
Dallas police have apologized, dropped the ticket and launched an investigation.
"When it came to our attention, we immediately called for an internal investigation to be done," said Lt. Andy Havey, Dallas Police Department.

What a fleshpop. That said, I'm surprised that Moats was able to run the red light without getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage.
Couldn't it be said that the cop did just that?

I appreciate the job that Cops do but this guy is a complete icehole and can't be fired soon enough.
It's possible to appreciate cops and also recognize that there are a lot more than just a few of them who act like this all the time. The behavior is very typical of a substantial section of police. We can't live without cops, but frankly there are a lot of cops we also really can't live with.
the fact that the cop finally found out who he was and just kept Moats standing there explaining bullshtein details of the ticket, the nurse is out there telling the cop the mother is dying, and then they are laughing about it when he leaves...that couldnt be more farged up.
I bet if Moats was white the cop would of escorted him into the hospital, wrote the ticket in the lobby and probably would of stopped by the gift shop for some flowers
The day my son was born, I was pulling out of my street with my wife in labor next to me, after waiting at the stop sign for 30-45 seconds (at least 5 cars had to go past). Almost as soon as I had pulled out, the lights went on behind me. I pulled into the next street, and the cop started yelling at me about running the stop sign.
After vainly arguing that I had come to a complete stop (it must have been the slowest California roll in history), I told the cop that I was taking my wife to the hospital to give birth, and it was obvious that she was in labor. The icehole made us wait while he filled out a written warning - yes, not even a ticket, but a written warning, I suppose he thinks I should have been eternally grateful, but I wanted to punch his lights out.
your wife should of put on her acting shoes in the car
cause if she was in serious labor... like panting very heavy, sweating, screaming curse words and racial slurs there is no reason he shouldnt escort you through traffic right up to the ER
the only thing i'll say is that once the cop put his lights on, moats definitely should have stopped and explained it right then and there and just ask the cop to go to the hospital with them. so i can't say i fault the cop for being a little pissed.
i ran a red light about 15 years ago going to the hospital for my step mom and got pulled over, explained it to the cop and asked him to go with me and that i would deal with it once everything was settled at the hospital. cop was nice about it, went to the hospital with me and ultimately opted not to write me a ticket.
having said that, this cop was still a total dick. no reason at all he couldn't have walked in with moats and then waited to write him a ticket if he felt the need.
He's no longer in the NFL, but I'm not making a new thread: Happy Birthday to Randall Cunningham

Officer Who Detained Moats Resigns
Posted by Mike Florio on April 1, 2009, 1:19 p.m. EDT
Dallas police officer Robert Powell, who was transferred to dispatch as an investigation occurred regarding his treatment of Texans running back Ryan Moats and Moats' family members, has resigned his job.
"With a heavy heart and great sadness, I resigned from the Dallas Police Department this morning," Powell said in a statement. "I made this decision in the hope that my resignation will allow the Dallas Police Department, my fellow officers, and the citizens of Dallas to better reflect on this experience, learn from the mistakes made, and move forward.
"I still hope to speak with the Moats family to personally express my deep regret, sympathy, and to apologize for my poor judgment and unprofessional conduct. I also want to apologize to my fellow officers. I have sincere respect and admiration for the men and women of the Dallas Police Department and the work they perform daily, and I wish them well."
Moats' wife told a local NBC affiliate that she was surprised to learn that Powell had resigned.
The March 18 incident, during which Powell kept Moats from entering the hospital where his mother-in-law lay dying, drew extensive media coverage and generated intense criticism. The mere fact that Powell acted that way knowing the behavior was being preserved by a dashboard camera and microphone gave us serious concerns about whether he "gets it."
It's also possible that Powell resigned under threat of termination, along with an offer that certain severance benefits that might not have been available if he had been fired "for cause." Employers commonly give employees who would otherwise be fired a chance to resign; if nothing else, it's easier to find a new job when a person wasn't fired from his last one.

The Washington taterskins have added another veteran player, signing offensive lineman Jeremy Bridges.
Bridges, a six-year veteran, spent the last three seasons with the Panthers. He was charged with assault in December, the night before a key Monday night game against the Buccaneers.
He started 14 games in 2006 and ten in 2007 before becoming primarily a backup in 2008, starting only four games at right tackle when rookie Jeff Otah was injured.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"I think it would have led me either to jail or to death," Rayburn said. "I don't think there was really any other option. . . . It all stemmed from playing football. My knee, my elbow, some spinal problems - if I was to bend down, I couldn't stand up. Immobility was really the only thing that could alleviate the pain - or medication, obviously. . . .
"They dull the pain, but they don't turn you into a zombie. They would give me energy to the point where I could function. If I didn't have them, I couldn't do anything except lay in bed and throw up and roll around and ache."

Unkind cut for Barksdale
By MARK SINGELAIS, Staff writer
First published in print: Tuesday, June 23, 2009
Rashad Barksdale was in his hometown of Hudson on Friday night. As he watched his younger brother play baseball, Barksdale received a text message from a New York Giants teammate.
Make that a former teammate.
"I heard you got released," Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas wrote to Barksdale. "Sorry about that."
That was news to Barksdale, a cornerback from the University at Albany, who was getting ready for his first Giants training camp at his alma mater in August.
"It was a shock," he said Monday. "I felt I was making improvement. ... The shocking thing about it is, I didn't receive any phone calls from anybody. I found out through a teammate."
The Giants cut Barksdale to make room in their 80-man roster for rookie corner Stoney Woodson, a seventh-round pick from South Carolina who came to terms with the team Friday.
Barksdale said he eventually got a voicemail from Giants secondary coach Peter Giunta that told him, "Sorry things didn't work out. You did a great job." Giunta also offered to help Barksdale find another team.
But Barksdale was still disappointed he never heard directly from a member of the organization.
"You know, it's the classy thing to do," he said.
Barksdale, 25, signed with the Giants last September after being cut by Kansas City, where he played one season. Barksdale spent the regular season on New York's practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster in the postseason but didn't play.
A Giants spokesman declined comment. Woodson signed on late Friday, which made it more difficult for the Giants to contact Barksdale before they had to release him.
"This is the business side of the NFL," said Tony Agnone, Barksdale's agent. "Most teams contact you before they release you, but not all the time. It's the ugly side nobody talks about."
Agnone said the Giants explained to him that Barksdale "had made progress, but not the kind they wanted him to make."
The timing is bad for Barksdale because many NFL teams have their rosters set for training camp.
Barksdale cleared waivers on Monday at 4 p.m., after which any team could sign him. Agnone said he believes Barksdale is talented enough to get another shot.
"It's a tough situation I'm in," Barksdale said. "I'm not going to let this stop me from trying to pursue my goal."
Barksdale, who has returned to his off-season home in Kansas City, said he would have liked to be in training camp at UAlbany.
"I was really looking forward to getting back on the field where it all started in front of my family and friends," he said.
jets picked him off waivers.
QuoteGood News for Hard-Luck Ex-Eagle
J.R. Reed made it back to the NFL after that horrible nerve injury he suffered behind his knee, when Reed failed to jump a barbed-wire fence in Feb. 2005, a few weeks after playing for the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX as a rookie returner and safety. But Reed, a solid hitter with tremendous heart, never quite got back all his quickness and lateral movement, using a special brace to help him lift his foot.
Reed eventually played 6 games for the Rams in 2006, 15 for the Eagles in 2007 and five more with the Birds last season, before they cut him. Now he has joined the coaching staff at South Florida, where he played. In this Tampa Bay.com blog post about his new job, it seems Reed is free to go back to the NFL if anyone becomes interested.
I always liked him as a player. For a while after the accident he wasn't even expected to walk again much less play. Good luck to JR.
Pretty sure it was a wrought iron fence, not barbed wire.

Recently, veteran defensive tackle Hollis Thomas visited the Eagles.
Soon, Thomas might be doing more than visiting an NFL city.
Per a league source, Thomas is expected to sign a contract this week. He is considering four different franchises.
Though it's unclear whether the Eagles remain in the mix, we're told that the Rams are one of the candidates for his services.
Not sure, but I thought I read he left Philly w/o an offer (although I suppose it's possible he could have gotten one in the mean time).
Maybe Reid wants to sign Hollis so he could have a player that he could tell to lose weight.
Awesome, they're now getting so good at scoffing at players that they're doing it to former players as well.

the difference is that dungy went and visited with vick, spoke with him, counseled him and will continue to be available for vick (or any other player for that matter) to go to for advice. he then recommended that vick be allowed to play again.
to on the other hand called the commish rediculous and basically criticized everything he's done to handle this situation.
not to mention that when dungy speaks, people actually listen because they want to, no because they're looking for a soundbite to put on the news.

this is no different than a player getting busted for DUI, domestic violence, drug possession or whatever else you cant think of that causes jail time. you pay a civil penalty, then you pay a league penalty...its always been that way.
the 2 years in jail for vick doesnt make up for the years of embarrassment he put the NFL through, especially when its going to get worse when he steps on the field again and the media/PETA frenzy that takes place over the course of the year. f vick

agreed, but i think it goes beyond the pr thing. i think it's pretty simple actually......the nfl, like any other business has the right to refuse employment to convicted felons. and that's exactly what vick is. the argument can be made that players like leonard little are actively playing in the league but little was allowed back in under tags, not goodell. goodell has set his policies and as far as i know he hasn't waivered from them at all. he's been harsh on players getting in trouble, but he's also been consistant.
point is, no one in this country is obligated to give a convicted felon a job. i guess that's one of the major drawbacks to being a felon.
vick has gone bankrupt spent two years in jail and already missed 32 games....four more is piling on and typical of the nfl's god complex...especially in light of the criminals they let play in the league
it would be wrong but id respect them more if they just banned him for life...tacking on an extra league suspension of four games is pathetic and not necessary

I'm one of the few that doesn't mind Vick getting back. Actually I'm hoping he does a 180 and shines. Didn't care too much for him as a QB...but he was fun to watch.
I know that a lot of dog lovers want to paint him as a monster...but its not as big a deal...shtein I'm not saying its right but its not that big a deal to me. People just love to pile on.
I just think he's a knucklehead who did not know any better....like many young athletes who all of a sudden come into millions of dollars (see most lottery winners....a few years later, they are broke).
I'm happy that the commissioner gave him another chance...hopefully he can do something positive and be a good story when this is over.
Good luck.
Hb-dudes been dog fighting since he was twelve-you don't think he knew any better?
regardless- the guy sucked as an nfl passer anyway and being away for 2 years surely will not help his cause.
good luck mike
I wasn't aware of that Reese...farg...12 years old?
No excuses for sure...but maybe nobody telling him Dog Fighting wasn't a good thing didn't help...but adults 'should' be smart enough to know that...but the fact is, as the years go by, athletes prove that a group of them lack common sense and rationale. A lot of them have a complete disregard for rules. It's not a coincidence shtein like this happens.
Well...maybe getting caught and losing the millions was the lesson he needed to get his head straight. I'm not judging, for some reason I'm actually pulling for this guy to do good and turn his life back around unlike pacman jones.
if anything the fact that its part of the culture in the south and that lots of people grow up with dogfighting as a "sport" shows that he DIDNT know better
should he have figured it out or had people around him tell him him how stupid he was for risking everything for something so awful yeah...but its absolutely possible he really didnt know better
i can't believe i'm in agreement with reese, but i am. but there's a bigger problem here besides vick dogfighting. it seems like dog fighting is pretty common in black communities, especiall down south and that it's viewed as a "cultural thing" blah blah blah. i've heard numerous black athletes speak out to the tune of "who cares.....it's just a bunch of dogs." like joey porter. so if you've got someone who grew up in that type of environment like vick, then he's not going to view it as wrong. dogs don't have a role of family pet and aren't viewed as members of the family. they still know the law says it's illegal but i don't think that they see the value in the animal's life. and that's what the real issue is in my opinion.
i could really give a damn whether or not vick ever plays football again. but i think that regardless of what the future holds for him, i hope part of it is coming to the understanding that dogs are far more valuable as companions and family pets and not trophies or extentions of your junk and that mistreatment, violence and death should not be a means of entertainment.
it would be nice if i thought vick was educated on any of that while in prison but i'm sure he wasn't, which is one of the many flaws with our penal system.
I have no problem with Vick coming back but I like the plan Goodell set forth. To me, it wasn't just a dog fighting thing. There were a lot of other circumstances - at first lying repeatedly to Goodell's face, bankrolling the illegal gambling, and the other problems he had in the past. And then of course not just the dog fighting, but Vick personally killing some the animals who didn't work out in unnecessarily cruel ways.
Just the lying to Goodell part alone really forces Goodell's hand for a suspension.
Another point is that Goodell, as sole disciplinarian, can't be completely arbitrary and has to have some consistency. This seems in line with the precedent he set with pacman.
Anybody should realize that Goodell isn't primarily interested in doing what is right or fair. First and foremost is advancing the interest of the league, so if the court of public opinion demands more than what court of law laid out, that's what we can expect to see.
In the end though, if Vick can really turn things around I'd like to see him have some success in the NFL.
I'd like to see Goodell electrocute Vick at half time of the first Falcons game this season. I'd pay money to see that. Provided it went to PETA, of course.

I'm surprised you didn't take the "rape stand" angle on that one.
It's a family event. Kids are down with the 'lectric chair, but the rape stand...that's too much. Except of course for the southern black kids, for them it's a part of their culture.
Besides, black kids and their "parents", Southern or not, can't afford NFL tickets.
Abusing animals is the sign of a serial killer if you're a white guy, but totally cool if you're a black guy. Do I have that right?
What Vick did was pretty ugly, but he paid for it. At least the media is talking about something besides Brett friggen' Favre.

Is there a similar axiom regarding running a gambling ring?
did leonard little kill someone and only get a four gamer?
clearly its either kick him out for life orgive him a second chance. of course who wants to deal with the media shteinstorm of signing him is the next question.
If Detroit, Cincinnati or were any smart...they would sign him pronto! Guaranteed sell out.
I understand the Little thing, but different Commish, different Rules. Goddell has come in with an iron fist to try and clean up the image that has taken over football. I could care less about Vick, the dude did some heinous shtein, and just because he was in jail shouldnt give him the right to be on the field immediately. Goddell even has it so he can be picked up, play in the preseason, and be in camp if someone wants him.
I don't have a problem with a few games, really. I mean, Vick lied consistently to the guy's face who has the only say in his future, and he ran a gambling enterprise. It was a huge blackeye for the league. They have to give him something just to quell the firestorm when he comes back.
What amazes me is that lost in all of this is that Vick was a pretty bad consistent QB to begin with.
the only people who forgot that vick was a mediocre qb are the execs at espn that keep him in the headlines. teams aren't staying away from vick because of the negative pub that goes with it. there's no such thing as bad publicity, right buffalo? teams aren't lining up for vick because he peaked as a qb in 2004 and the only thing that kept him going (his athletic ability) is likely only to decline from here as he approaches 30.
someone will take a flier on him but i bet there aren't but maybe 3 teams in the league willing to do so and none of them will get in a bidding war over him.*
*does not take into account the 4yr/$75mil contract the taterskins will offer him.

QuoteSmith said that injuries weren't the only thing working against him his final two seasons in Philly, though he declined to get very specific.
"There were a lot of things going on there, a lot of internal things," he said. "There were several people in the organization that put things out [about me] in the media like bait. Like, 'Go get him.'
"I don't play the media game, because, as a player, you're never going to have the last word. You can call in to a radio station and try to defend your position. But you're never going to have the last word, because, as soon as you hang up, they're talking about you. They're going to create a story the way they want to create it."
Smith also suggested that coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg didn't do him many favors with their playcalling.
"I felt like there were times when certain plays weren't being called for me," he said. "I don't really want to talk about it. As an athlete, you don't want to make headlines. You don't want to bring negative attention to yourself. I just tried to keep my head up and do my job. But it was hard, man. It was hard."
Man, all those passing plays they called totally screw over the TEs.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Bill Belichick found a way to stop receiver Greg Lewis from tormenting his New England Patriots - trade for him.
Lewis made the first touchdown catch of his career while playing for the Eagles against the Patriots in the Super Bowl in 2005. He had two touchdown catches in a 2007 game against the Pats, nearly derailing their undefeated regular season.
Belichick obtained Lewis from the Eagles in March for two draft picks.
"Greg has always killed us," Belichick said recently. "Every time we've played him, he's killed us. We haven't been able to cover him very well, so that kind of catches your attention."
On Thursday, Lewis will face his former teammates in a preseason game when the Patriots play the Eagles in Philadelphia.
Lewis caught Belichick's eye as a college receiver at Illinois. After Lewis joined the Eagles, Belichick said he had a number of conversations with Eagles coach Andy Reid about obtaining him. But Belichick said he thought Reid found it hard to part with Lewis.
"He's a guy that we've had a lot of interest in, and I think he's a good fit in our system," Belichick said.
Lewis said his past performances against the Patriots are just that - over and done.
"Anytime you feel wanted, that makes you feel good about yourself," Lewis said. "But what I did [against the Patriots] is in the past, and it's not as important as what I do this afternoon and the next day."
Lewis said he has talked to several of his teammates about that 2005 Super Bowl, but their memories are different.
"They obviously remember winning and I don't," he said. "They got the last laugh."
Lewis is joining a star-studded cast of Patriots receivers that includes three Pro Bowlers - Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Joey Galloway.
"You don't play on paper; I mean, it all looks good," Lewis said.
Lewis, who became a darling of Patriots fans early in training camp with some spectacular catches, first signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2003. His Birds career peaked with 48 catches in 2005.
I watched most of the Jets Ravens exhibition last night. First pass to LJ Smith he dropped. Second pass, he pulled up lame (and didn't make the play). Didn't see him after that.

This is not a week that cornerback Roderick Hood will look back fondly on. In the span of five days, he's been cut by two NFL teams.
The Browns dropped him Monday, and the Bears cut him Friday, just three days after they signed him to a one-year deal.
Hood reportedly struggled in Chicago's preseason game Thursday night, and the team's lack of cornerback depth wasn't a good enough reason for the Bears to keep him.

QuoteA.J. Feeley has to be the most content backup quarterback in NFL history. When he was traded to the Dolphins by the Eagles in 2004, it was clear he would have preferred to stay in Philadelphia as a backup rather than get a starting shot in Miami. And after signing with Carolina this week, he said he has zero interest in supplanting Jake Delhomme as the starter.
"Hopefully, I don't have to play this year," he said. "That's kind of the plan, that things will go the way everyone wants it to go with Jake playing."
Feeley struggled in Miami trying to learn an offense that was nothing like the Eagles' West Coast. Now, he has to learn the Panthers' offense, which also is very dissimilar in terminology and just about everything else from what the Eagles run.
"There's a learning curve with learning a new offense," Feeley said. "Hopefully it comes to me sooner than later. I can't give you a timetable. If I have to play, I have to play. But hopefully that's not the case.

QuoteBucs pulling the 54-man roster trick?
Posted by Mike Florio on September 26, 2009 2:02 PM ET
In a somewhat surprising move (on the surface), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have cut veteran linebacker Matt McCoy.
McCoy started the Week One game against the Cowboys after Geno Hayes clocked in late, and McCoy was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants.
To take his place, the Bucs have signed receiver Mario Urrutia from the pratice squad.
Given that McCoy is a vested veteran and that the trading deadline has not yet passed, McCoy could be re-signed as soon as Monday or Tuesday. Since he possibly wasn't going to play anyway, the move allows the Bucs to essentially expand the roster by one body, creating a spot for Urrutia and dropping a guy who wasn't going to play, anyway.
The Titans used this maneuver last year, cutting quarterback Chris Simms on a Saturday and re-signing him the following week. With the transaction coming on a Saturday, the player still gets his game check.
That said, McCoy is an unrestricted free agent, and he can sign with any team he wants. But if the Bucs have designs on bringing him back, it's unlikely that they would have cut him if they weren't confident he'd stick around.
LJ Smith just made a 33 yard catch and run...more like a rumble, really..he's slow as shtein these days. Less ten yards thanks to a Derrick Mason block in the back, but hey...LJ did something.

"It felt good to be out there with the fellas and felt good to get a win," said James, who finished with two tackles and one pass break-up. "Personally, to start was a great thing because that's what I've been working to get back to."
James started in place of Phillip Buchanon in Sunday's 19-14 victory over Washington. James made a case to continue starting.
"We were happy with what Will did in the game," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Monday. "He's a veteran player; he has starting experience in the league, he's got size and he's done a really good job in this scheme."
James, 30, is in his ninth NFL season. A third-round pick in 2001 from Western Illinois, he spent his first five seasons with the Giants. His best season was 2004, when he made 68 tackles in 16 games with 11 pass defenses and two interceptions. He played with the Eagles in 2006 and '07 and with the Jaguars in '08. He came to the Lions hoping to help turn around a team and in the process regain a starting job.
"You can't think about the past," he said. "You gotta take this season for what it is. It's a new opportunity. It's a new opportunity for this organization. It's a new opportunity for me."
QuotePanthers sign Hollis Thomas
Posted by Tom Curran on October 1, 2009 11:22 AM ET
The reeling Panthers made a move to shore up their defensive line Thursday, signing 15-year veteran Hollis Thomas, according to Steve Reed at Carolina Growl.com.
Thomas was released Wednesday by the Rams. That the Panthers swooped in so quickly to gobble up the table droppings of the 0-3 Rams is evidence of the deep funk the Panthers are in. And it's a funk that extends beyond the so far horrific play of quarterback Jake Delohomme.
The Panthers have struggled to find a replacement along their defensive front since losing Maake Kemoeatu in training camp with a torn Achilles. Kemoeatu's backup, Louis Leonard broke an ankle in Week 2. The 35-year-old Thomas, who played the bulk of his career with Philadelphia, had four tackles for the Rams in three games as a reserve.
QuoteNew Panthers defensive tackle Hollis Thomas said today after his first practice with the team that he hopes to bring "a little levity, a little thickness in the middle" to the Panthers' defense, which ranks 29th in the league in run defense (182.7 yards allowed per game).
He said also wants to take the attention of absentee defensive tackles Maake Kemoeatu and Louis Leonard, who both are out for the season with injuries.
"Everybody wants to be focusing on the other fat guys; (now) they'll focus on the new fat guy," he said.

Brian Dawkins and the Denver Broncos are 4-0.
Dawkins faced a familiar foe this afternoon in Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys. The result? An impressive defensive performance and a 17-10 victory.
Denver trailed 10-0 in the first quarter when Fox's Pam Oliver observed that Dawkins had given the defense a pep talk on the sidelines. We've seen a few of those around these parts in the past.
On the very next Cowboys' possession, the Broncos forced a Romo fumble. Dallas didn't score another point all day.

Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse was a surprise scratch from Sunday night's game against the Colts. Kearse, who had started every game since returning to the team in 2008, was not injured.
His reaction to the news that he wouldn't be playing?
He left.
And coach Jeff Fisher is OK with it.
"This is between he and I," Fisher said Monday, according to Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper. "It was a big game. It was an emotional thing, and we'll sort it out. As far as the message is concerned, he's a good teammate, he's had a great career and he's still got a lot left."
Fisher said that Kearse won't be fined for leaving.
"There are a lot of moving parts, and I think in Jevon's case, again you referenced the fact that he wasn't there, again this is between he and I, when you let a player know 90 minutes before kickoff that he's going to be inactive, that's a hard thing to accept," Fisher said. "And I don't blame him for having a tough time dealing with that. It was a decision we made, and it was a last-minute decision."
Fisher explained that he chose to activate defensive end Dave Ball over Kearse.
"I have been deactivating Dave Ball for a number of weeks now, and I wanted to get Dave an opportunity to play," Fisher said.
Ball's ability to slide inside helped, given that defensive tackle Jason Jones is injured.
It's possible that the Titans are going to try to trade Kearse prior to the October 20 deadline to a contender that needs help in the pass rush.

QuoteChildress was asked what sort of reception former Vikings center Matt Birk could expect upon his return in a different purple uni. (Ravens)
"I don't know," Childress said. "I don't think they introduce visiting players on road games. Certainly not like if he would have left Philadelphia, where he might have gotten something thrown at him. I don't think there will be any foreign objects or anything. I think Matt's a native of here, and they have a great appreciation and respect for him here in Minnesota. We're not quite as mean-spirited."
Yeah, Philly fans always throw things at players who leave. Dawk better have a metal umbrella for all the stuff that will be thrown on him at the end of the year. ::)

QuoteBuffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens still sounds like a man with a chip on his shoulder when it comes to his former team, the Dallas Cowboys.
When he met the media today, Owens said his goal this season is to have better numbers than Cowboys receiver Roy Williams.
"I've been looking at my stats compared to Roy E. Williams' stats over there in Dallas, and my goal is to have better stats then him at the end of the season," Owens said.
So far this season it's close: Owens has 18 catches for 242 yards and one touchdown, while Williams has 12 catches for 230 yards and one touchdown.

QuoteRunyan on way to San Diego
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 24, 2009 5:19 PM ET
Jon Runyan's congressional career may have to be put on hold for a little while.
The former Eagle is headed to visit the Chargers Tuesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Chargers need help at tackle with Jeromy Clary sidelined indefinitely, and could finalize a contract with Runyan shortly if all goes well.
Runyan has been readying himself to play football again after undergoing microfracture surgery last year, but hasn't yet found a suitor willing to offer him a contract.
Good luck, JR. Hope it works out.
QuotePer Rotoworld:
Chargers signed OT Jon Runyan, formerly of the Eagles.
San Diego may hold an in-practice competition between Corey Clark and Runyan at right tackle this week. Runyan started an amazing 192 straight games between 1997 and 2008, but turns 36 in three days and is coming off microfacture surgery. He's not likely to be an upgrade in pass protection.
That makes me sad for some reason.
Because the idea of old men who can't accept their lot in life is sad, perhaps?

QuoteJack Ikegwuonu visits with the Bengals
Posted by Mike Florio on December 1, 2009 9:23 PM ET
The Cincinnati Bengals, who continue to have a soft spot for second-chance players with past legal issues, visited Tuesday with yet another high-talent player whose career has been undermined by off-field troubles.
Per a league source, cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu met with the Bengals on Tuesday. To date, he has not signed a contract.
Regarded as a possible first-round prospect in 2008, Ikegwuonu tore an ACL while preparing for pre-draft workouts. The Eagles drafted him in round four.
Earlier this year, Ikegwuonu was acquitted on burglary charges arising from a claim that Ikegwuonu and his brother entered an apartment and stole a non-360 Xbox.
The Eagles cut him in early September, signed him to the practice squad thereafter, signed him to the active roster on November 11, and cut him on November 24.
The Bengals also visited with safety Marcus McClinton, who signed with the Patriots earlier this year as an undrafted free agent, and who recently finished a stint in the UFL.

QuoteTorry Holt, Tra Thomas to be cut Monday
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 6, 2010 9:12 AM ET
The Torry Holt experiment in Jacksonville is only going to last one season. Vito "Don't call me Tweeto" Stellino of the Florida Times Union reports that Holt and tackle Tra Thomas will be released Monday by the Jaguars.
Still only 33, Holt had decent numbers in Jacksonville with 51 catches for 722 yards. But his speed and ability to win one-one-battles has declined rapidly the last few seasons. The Jaguars have a promising young group of wideouts with Mike Sims-Walker, Mike Thomas, and Jarrett Dillard. Holt was due $9 million over the next two seasons.
Holt's release isn't shocking, but dropping Thomas is less of a surprise. The Jaguars have two first-round tackles and Thomas was a part-time player at age 35.
Silva and I used to always argue over Holt and Isaac Bruce's Hall of Fame credentials. Holt should get another contract, but the end to his career is not helping his case.
Tra is probably too old and injured at this point (was when he left, at least the injured part) but ideally the Eagles should get a good LT and move Peters to RT where he belongs and hopefully could dominate, without all the penalties.

Dude has been hurt every year of his career and spent most of last year unable to play because of concussions. Doesn't really scream "hot commodity" to me.
I think he has three legit offers; Washington, Green Bay and STL.
The rest of these offers seem manufactured by the agent. Out of those three GB is the most likely to have success this year. But his days of carrying the load are over, obviously. So it would behoove him to find the best situation. And that may not come until someone snaps a leg or an ACL explodes in August.
Quote from: PhillyPhreak54 on June 26, 2010, 03:42:17 PMSo it would behoove him to find the best situation.
So what your saying here is that, it would be to his best interest to find the best situation for himself?
You guys need to dumb it down for me here. Are you saying he should find the best situation he can to play?
Yes. The message is: Westbrook should get the best deal possible. For himself.
Best situation to win rather than go to a zesty team just for a pay check.
Maybe a pay check is the best situation for him. He should probably seek that out. "That," of course, being the best situation for his personal situation...
that would be retirement
Maybe the best situation is a permanent vegetative state. Because he's probably one good concussion from it.
Alright now, I was gonna' say he ain't far from that right now.
Just a quick break in the current line this thread has taken to say: I love Westbrook. He wasn't durable, but that's the only possible knock you could make on the guy. I don't think he's stupid, never have.
his lack of durability is greatly exaggerated....before his concussions he played in 90% of his games...not iron man like but far from mr glass
and yes hes an all time favorite eagle...maybe even top five
Pretty much. He turned out to be a helluva player.
It seems like just yesterday he took that punt from Feagles up the sideline at the dump in Jersey. I'll never forget that.
Acknowledging his injury-prone-ness is not disparaging what he's meant to this team and offense. They can coexist.

Sure, fair enough. I guess I'm a softy, but Westbrook's best situation is not a permanent vegetative state, and he is not anything close to that now. It makes perfect sense when you're talking about a collective group of people who spend more time thinking about their next custom escalade than the fact that they will, on average, need to survive for an additional 50 years after their last nfl game.

NFLers absolutely do NOT live an average of 50 years past their retirement. I think the average life span of an NFL retiree is something like 59. That's not exactly right, I know, but it is something appallingly low.

It's an urban legend that NFL players have a lower life expectancy. I think people see the cases of NFL players dying young, but underestimate how often people die young in the general population.
QuoteThere is an anecdotal belief among observers of the NFL that its players do not live as long as the average American male -- approximately the age of 72. The only extensive report that examined the issue refutes that notion.
In 1994, just before Super Bowl XXVIII, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) released the results of a study that was prompted by a request from the NFL Players Association. Professional football players, according to NIOSH, actually live marginally longer than non-football players. Based upon the occurrence of death among men of similar age and race in the general population, 189 deaths would have been expected of the test group, but only 103 occurred.
I heard that they are looking to redo that study, so we can see if anything has changed since 1994.
There are certain medical conditions that you see more often in retired NFL players (head traumas, heart problems). Some are related to the brutality of the game, some are related to the large number of fat linemen in the game. But you have to remember that the population of NFL players is a population that is starting off in amazing physical condition compared to regular guys on the street.
Welbourn has issues with the Eagles over medical benefits (http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/There-are-a-lot-of-players-out-there-like-Dave-Pear-John-Welbourn.html)
QuoteWelbourn goes on to detail how he suffered a right knee injury playing for the Eagles at old Veterans Stadium. With the help of a lawyer, Welbourn claims he was granted "lifetime medical benefits" on his right knee and most of his lower leg following surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus.
After leaving the New England Patriots, Welbourn had a doctor perform a cleanout on his knee and then pursued the Eagles for benefits. "The doctor was met with the runaround, dropped calls, denials and finally my favorite: that I was never an employee of the Eagles!" Welbourn wrote.
Welbourn says he has been pursuing the Eagles for two years to make good on the agreement he had with the organization.
"Actually, I have thought many times any player that played for the Eagles or was forced to play in the Vet should be part of a class action suit against the NFL and the Eagles for making us play on that crap," he wrote. "The unsafe working conditions we were forced into by management, the NFL and Union are unconscionable."

As big of a fan of Bobby Taylor's that I was, the fact that he's willing to play safety is laughable. Because his tackling skills were non-existant. He makes Asante look like a farging freight train.
He may not have tackled well, but he was way more physical than Samuel. He was good at press coverage, he was the only Eagles db that ever played well against Michael Irvin.
Agreed. Just his open field tackling was horrible. Like the JAX game they lost where that coke head Jimmy Smith blew past one of his feeble attempts to set up the game winner.
He was drafted specifically to defend Irvin.
He's gone, farg it.

Tra Thomas retiring, too bad he can't play guard:

QuoteChargers' Tra Thomas retiring
Three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Tra Thomas is retiring.
Thomas, 35, said Saturday that he has decided to leave the game because he can longer play at the level he expects from himself.
He recently had arthroscopic knee surgery and he said he hasn't performed well during this camp.
He signed with San Diego in June as a possible replacement for Marcus McNeill, who is holding out.
"I was just watching film and I don't think I was playing as well in practice as I should be," said Thomas, who entered the NFL as a first-round pick of Philadelphia in 1998. "If I'm not playing well in practice, I'm not going to play up to my standard in a game ... I feel very good about the decision. I 'm going out on my own terms. At least, I know I gave it everything I could."
Thomas played with Jacksonville last season after spending 10 seasons with the Eagles.
He said he appreciates the chance San Diego gave him, but he thought it was best to leave the game.
"I could have milked it for a year," Thomas said. "But I have too much respect for the game to do that."
With McNeill holding out, the Chargers will start Brandyn Dombrowski at left tackle. San Diego likely will study the waiver wire in the next couple of weeks to help depth at the position while McNeill sits out.
Was just about to post that. So when does he sign his one day contract and officially retire as an Eagle? He's def one of the best the Eagles have ever had and was certainly one of the top LT's during his playing days.

Quote2. Shoulda, woulda, coulda
With the exception of the taterskins, there wasn't much interest from NFL teams when the Eagles started shopping Donovan McNabb in the spring. After two weeks, how many teams do you think would like a do-over.
For draft-pick compensation that did not include a first-rounder, McNabb could have been had by a number of teams that must regret the decision now. Sure, McNabb was on the losing end of an overtime game Sunday, but he threw for 426 yards and at one point had his team in a 27-10 lead in the third quarter. McNabb has now thrown 70 passes without an interception, completed 61.4 percent of his pass attempts and accumulated 597 yards.
There are at least 10 teams that made a big mistake by not trading for this guy.
Tops on this list is the Vikings. McNabb could have been reunited with Childress. Instead, they are paying Brett Favre $20 million to look old. REALLY old.
The only thing left after this article is a "if the season ended today... after two weeks... he'd be an mvp... and in the playoffs" piece.
When did even the media become so short sighted in their "reporting"?

Kelley Washington, San Diego Charger
Who doesn't like Hollis Thomas? I think he could still help the Eagles if you stick him in against the run.
Shawn Andrews starting at LT
Al Harris, Free Agent
GET
He's had a ton of leg/knee problems over the last year, but failed to meet the Packers deadline to return to the field. Still, it probably wouldn't hurt to bring him in for a physical and work out.
And that sums up how awful the secondary is......wanting a 35 yr old corner who hasn't been healthy enough to play all year.
"Speaking of Jerry Reese is a genius, Shawn Andrews is a fargin savage and the best acquisition the Giants made this offseason by far. He brings depth to the line, is a monster as an extra blocker, and is only 27 with a Pro Bowl already on his resume. Typical retard Eagles just making stupid movies and dropping young Pro Bowlers for the Giants to scoop up. Like usual the rest of the NFC East just playing checkers while the Giants play chess."
That's from Barstool NY...
Hawk-can you believe the Eagles got rid of Andrews? I'm pissed.

I hated Andrews... I was just pointing out the New York homerism
Al Harris, Miami Dolphin
Joique Bell, Indianapolis Colt
Chris Clemons has 2 more sacks today
Between him and Babin, the Eagles should have had a helluva pass rush in 2009.
Too much time covering TEs and RBs with Boy Wonder's scheme
By the looks of it, Babin and Clemons still wouldn't have much luck against Shawn Andrews. Looks like he dropped a lot of weight. At left tackle he neutralized Demarcus Ware. Just a matter of time until he goes bonkers, goes to surgery, or goes all pro.
He obviously needed a change of scenery to get his head straight. Hopefully Andy knows enough of his weaknesses to exploit them. At worst the D-Lineman could talk trash about his singing voice.
When he's on his game, Andrews doesn't have any exploitable weaknesses. He's magnificent when he's right. And I'm in the camp that thinks he was never going to be right with the Eagles. So fence cast kiss bottle.
Raheem Brock pinched for DUI. Not really any info about it out there, but he got busted in Seattle before flying to Arizona for the game, and didn't tell the team.
And the Eagles FO foresaw this.
Giants reportedly looking into signing Kevin Curtis.
ES would explode because, as they say, he is the answer.
Dude's got good hands. If he can get open at all he can help them. I have no idea who they have after Manningham.

QuoteA grand jury has been convened to investigate allegations Troy Vincent violated federal labor laws when he was NFLPA president and has subpoenaed Vincent's deposition in a civil lawsuit, the SportsBusiness Journal reported Friday.
Vincent, who now serves as NFL vice president of player development, was deposed in September in a civil lawsuit brought against the NFLPA by former union employee Mary Moran for wrongful termination.
The government, SportsBusiness Journal reported, has served subpoenas on Moran and the NFLPA to turn over the deposition as well as other documents to the grand jury convened in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Moran is alleging Vincent colluded with the NFL to undermine the NFLPA's position in collective bargaining and the related federal investigation.
Vincent did not return a phone call to the SportsBusiness Journal, but has denied wrongdoing. The NFL has denied allegations in Moran's lawsuit that it colluded with Vincent.

Shawn Andrews may suit up against Eagles on Sunday night
QuoteBy GEORGE O'GORMAN
Staff Writer
Perhaps it's something about mentioning the name Eagles that gets Shawn Andrews' back aching.
At least it seemed that way the other day, when Andrews had to miss a third day of organized workouts only a few hours before the Giants were to head to Philadelphia for tonight's game with Andrews' old team — the first-place Eagles.
There was some skepticism in the Giants locker room when Andrews said the surgically repaired back that eventually led the Eagles to release him last year was hurting again.
Apparently Andrews began having adverse reaction to the surgery during the Giants' drubbing by Dallas at New Meadowlands Stadium last Sunday.
It was the most action Andrews saw this season, and although he wasn't the cause for many of the offensive line's problems the G-Men encountered, he didn't help.
QuoteIn overtime, Tennessee appeared to intercept a Donovan McNabb pass, returning it to the Washington 33. As Titans were dancing and pointing at the taterskins in an extremely dumb celebration, Jason Babin pulled the helmet off a taterskins lineman and yelled at him. Personal foul, of course. Then the replay booth overturned the interception, ruling the ball hit the ground. Had Babin not acted like an idiot, the incompletion would have left Washington facing third-and-22. Instead the personal foul gave the taterskins a first down -- even if a play result is overturned, any penalties stand -- and Washington won the game on the drive. Dumb is a mild word for Babin's actions.
QuoteBrian Dawkins' run in Denver could be wrapping up
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 23, 2010, 9:48 AM EST
Denver Broncos v Philadelphia Eagles
Monday's night's 35-14 loss in San Diego will go down as one of the uglier games of safety Brian Dawkins' illustruous career.
He missed a tackle that led to a long Patrick Crayton touchdown, and couldn't handle running back Darren Sproles when he caught a pass and took it the distance. After the game, Dawkins remained in the locker room long after most of his teammates had departed.
"I'm going to continue to fight. That's just what I do," Dawkins told Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post. "It's just a frustrating thing when you're out there on the field and you start thinking too much."
Kiszla believes this will be Dawkins' second year in Denver. His original contract was essentially a two-year deal where the final three seasons easily void. The gamble paid off in 2009, but Dawkins' play has slipped this year.
The Broncos need to get younger throughout their defense, especially in the secondary. Dawkins, who turned 37 last month, may still have a place in the league as a part-time player if he was in the right situation.
I don't know if this quote means anything, but he is an ex-Eagle in the NFL.
On the other hand I read a blurb yesterday that Lorenzo Booker, an ex-Eagle in the UFL, boycotted his last game because of their $150,000 fee to allow their players to transfer to the NFL. This makes it that much harder for Booker to become a feature back in the NFL.
The highlights last night were embarrassing. On one play he was covering Sproles and it was Kirkland levels of bad
and if Im not mistaken I think Crayton's right index finger swiped his helmet and knocked him over during that run

Kiszla believes this will be Dawkins' second year in Denver.
Does he? I probably agree.

I did know of the clause, it's just that I can't imagine Snyder refusing an opportunity to throw good money after bad. Besides McNabb hasn't escaped anything in 7 years.
It would be hilarious to see McNabb come back. At least until Vick got hurt.
Macho Harris to washington.
QuoteA day after practicing with the Giants on a limited basis despite a back injury, guard Shawn Andrews showed up for work and was unable to go, according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger.
But there's more to the story. According to a league source, Andrews was in so much pain that he eventually was sent to a local hospital.
It's unknown how long he stayed or whether he was admitted as a patient.
Andrews has struggled with back problems for years. He fought through his most recent episode, which developed during the November 14 game against the Cowboys, to play in the November 21 loss to his former team, the Eagles.
The injury-riddled Giants host the 6-4 Jaguars on Sunday.
I don't know how much longer David Diehl will be out, but this puts the Giants in a precarious position protecting Eli. 3rd string LT and 2nd or 3rd string center with O'Hara out. I feel so bad for them. Damn.
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see Shawn Andrews fail. It's satisfying the same way it was watching Corey Simon fall apart. Or LJ Smith...bums.
Brian Westbrook tonight
23 Carries, 136 yards, 1 TD
Mock?
Frank Gore is done for the season, so we'll see if Westy can still put up numbers like that every week.

I didn't even know Booker was still in the NFL until tonight.
He just got back in from the UFL
They should send the entire Vikings team to the UFL. The entire North division is overrated.
Entire!
um the eagles are 1-2 against that entire overrated division, just sayin :paranoid
Know who is playing well?
Kyle Arrington.
Who?
Just cause I'm curious, any Mike Bell news out there? He still employed?
Since being traded to Cleveland he has 19 rushes for 30 yards, no catches. His yards per carry actually dropped from 1.8 with the Eagles to 1.6 with the Browns.
Thanks, SD. Geez, what happened to that guy? He was at least decent in NO.
Danny Amendola with a big return!
Miami released Kevin Curtis
Does anyone like cock more than Lito Sheppard?!?!?!??
Jason Babin made the Pro Bowl.
But the Eagles have Darryl Tapp and Brandon Graham, so that's neat.
I'm shocked McDermott couldnt utilize Babin's talents.

Although she claimed that she did not want her sex tape released in public, Kendra Wilkinson is now reportedly looking to prevent her husband Hank Baskett to benefit financially from the years-old homemade porn film.
The tape, which she recorded with an ex-boyfriend when she was just 18, was sold to Vivid Entertainment earlier this year. She originally threatened to sue Vivid to block the release of the tape, but it was then reported that she actually has several more tapes in her collection that she wanted to sell herself through her own Home Run Productions company.
Vivid was able to release the sex tape after negotiating with Hugh Hefner's former girlfriend.
But now, Kendra, 25, apparently wants her NFL player husband to sign a post-nuptial agreement that will bar him from the money she earned from the said porn film, as well as from the small fortune she made from her reality TV show and other endorsement deals.
According to In Touch Weekly, Kendra doesn't want Hank to benefit from her wealth since she is earning much more than him.
A source told the tabloid, "Kendra is making a lot of money these days, but Hank's not earning as much as he did when they got married. She's just looking out for her own interests."
Hank, who currently plays as a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, has been shuffled from team to team since marrying Kendra last year. He also played with the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts.
With Joe Webb throwing to Hank, things might start looking up for him.
Time for Hank to find a new skank.

QuoteOnly 23 quarterbacks have thrown at least 225 touchdowns in the regular season. Of those 23, only Brady has a TD-INT ratio better than 2.5-to-1 (261 TDs, 103 INTs). Only three others had a ratio of 2-to-1 or better for their careers: Steve Young (232 TDs, 107 INTs), Manning (399 TDs, 198 INTs) and Donovan McNabb (230 TDs, 115 INTs).
Somewhat surprising. Although if he continues to play, he's going to fall out of that club.
Are you being facetious about that? I thought everyone here knew that he's one of the best ever at avoiding interceptions, almost entirely thanks to his tendency to put the ball in the dirt. This year his numbers were awful by comparison to the rest of his career, just atrocious.
I certainly would have guessed that he had at least a 2:1 ratio of TD's to INT's. The thing that surprises me the most is how few QB's are in that 225+/2:1 ratio club.
That I can understand. I mean, if McNabb is on that list, there have got to be several others, right?
The thing about his inclusion in this group is that the others got there by actually being unnaturally accurate..he got there by combining average NFL accuracy with an extreme malice for worms.

McNabb also was never one to make "risky" throws either. Unless a receiver clearly had a defender beat, he wasn't throwing the ball and that has a lot to do with his TD:Int ratio.

AT THE IMPROBABLE age of 48, Herschel Walker believes he can become "the George Foreman of football."
Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner as a Georgia junior running back, played 15 seasons of professional football, including 1992 through '94 with the Eagles, and retired at the end of the 1997 NFL season.
He remains the only NFL player to score three ways on plays of 90 or more yards in the same season, achieving that spectacular hat trick for the Eagles in 1994 by taking it to the house on a rush, a pass reception and a kickoff return.
To hear him tell it, Walker can still give a boost to any NFL team willing to ignore the date on his birth certificate. He turns 49 on March 3.
"If I continue to stay in the shape I'm in now, I know I can play when I'm 50," Walker insisted yesterday during a teleconference to promote his Saturday bout with 27-year-old Scott Carson in a Strikeforce event in San Jose, Calif.
"Right now, if you asked me if I can play today, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind I can play football, that I can help a team out," said Walker, whose spent his final three NFL seasons primarily as a receiver and kick returner for the Giants and Cowboys. "I can 100 percent guarantee you I can help a football team out . . .
He's lost his minds.
I think Jim Washburn could coach him up as a havoc-wreaking DT.

QuoteUp first we have former Eagles offensive tackle Tra Thomas, who is opening a gym in New Jersey.
"This was something I've always wanted to do," Thomas told the Philadelphia Daily News.
Thomas said some of his former Eagles teammates who are still active players will be working at the gym as personal trainers until the lockout comes to an end.
"With this lockout going on, it'll give these guys a chance to do what they love," Thomas said, "and get paid for it."
