QuoteVIKES GOT SNOOKERED BY TAPEH
Posted by Mike Florio on October 13, 2008, 5:49 p.m.

The Vikings opted against re-signing Pro Bowl fullback Tony Richardson after the 2007 season, choosing instead to acquire Thomas Tapeh via free agency.

Several months later, the Vikes are having some buyer's remorse.  The problem?  Tapeh had knee surgery in February, and didn't disclose it to the Vikings.

"I think his knee bothered him a little bit when he came in here," coach Brad Childress said Monday, "and I'm finding out now that he did have an offseason cleanup in February, which I wish he would have shared with us."

Tapeh has appeared in only two of six games during his first year with the Vikings.  Though supposedly healthy, Tapeh is routinely deactivated, ostensibly because he doesn't play special teams.

We tend to think that Chilly has opted to give Tapeh the cold shoulder in retaliation for hiding the truth about his knee.

And, actually, that's one coach's decision from Childress with which we can agree.

QuoteSeahawks waived WR Billy McMullen.
McMullen signed with Seahawks when they were ravaged by wide receiver injuries, but his own compound fracture in his right pinkie will end his Seattle career. He finishes with 124 yards in only two games played after being out of the league in 2007.

QuoteBuc Cut After DUI Arrest

TAMPA - Matt McCoy, a linebacker signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent this year, was released from the team Saturday after being arrested earlier that morning on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.

Jail records show Tampa police arrested McCoy at 4:11 a.m. at West Paul Avenue and South Sheridan Road, less than 500 feet from his home in the Gandy/Sun Bay South neighborhood.

About 4 p.m., the Buccaneers announced in a news release that they had promoted wide receiver Brian Clark from the practice squad to the active roster and released McCoy "to make room."

McCoy, 26, was released from Orient Road Jail after posting $500 bail.

Police stopped McCoy driving a 2008 BMW after seeing the vehicle heading west in the eastbound lanes of Gandy Boulevard, according to an arrest affidavit. McCoy swayed while he was standing, had glazed eyes and the odor of alcohol, the affidavit stated. He refused to undergo field sobriety tests, citing his attorney's advice, the affidavit said.

McCoy refused a breath-alcohol test, jail records say.

McCoy is a California native who was signed by the Bucs as a free agent in March, according to the Buccaneers Web site. Before coming to Tampa, he had been signed by New Orleans as a free agent and drafted by Philadelphia, the Web site says.

He played college ball at San Diego State.

Moats is returning kicks for Houston today.

In related news, Houston is losing fairly badly to an averagish team.

Update:  I just watched Moats take it out of the end zone and barely get back to the 15.
