perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

There are four lights!

They'd be fine without the city name across the front. It reminds me of high school jerseys.

The man. The myth. The legend.

QuoteOne in six NFL players – about 16 per cent – file for bankruptcy within a dozen years after retiring, Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union reports.  This according to a study first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

And star players who have long careers and make millions of dollars are just as likely to go bankrupt as backup players with short careers.

"Bankruptcy rates are not affected by a player's total earnings or career length. Having played for a long time and been paid quite well does not provide much protection against the risk of going bankrupt,'' said the authors of the study, Kyle Carlson, Joshua Kim, Annamaria Luscardi and Colin F. Camerer.

They teach at Cal Tech, George Washington University and the University of Washington and are researchers for the National Bureau of Economic Research.

The study did disagree with a 2009 Sports Illustrated report that 78 per cent of players are bankrupt or under "financial stress'' within two years of retirement.

The economists found that only about two per cent of NFL players filed for bankruptcy within two years of retiring.

Former players also file for bankruptcy as people their same age who don't play football. Each year, about 1.1 per cent of the former players filed for bankruptcy, just about the same rate of the rest of the population.

The difference is that they tend to have made more money than the average person of their age.

"We've known that it can be very difficult for the average family to save,'' Camerer said. "But this is one group that you might think ought to be able to avoid bankruptcy. They're in a position to guy some good advice if they need it. But even for them, with all these millions, it's a challenge.''

One of the challenges is that they often make bad investments with their millions.

The authors studied more than 2000 players who were drafted from 1996 to 2003. They used public court records to find bankruptcy filings.

It's funny, and almost predictable in hindsight, but players have been scammed to the tune of $100 million by NFLPA registered financial advisors. I'm not in favor of any mandatory use of them. As far as I'm concerned they are just as free to piss their money away as anyone else, especially since they do get pensions.

you cant force an advisor on someone anyway...this is America...put em thru a seminar when they enter the league where herm screams at them....then make quality help as readily available as possible thruout their careers....the rest is on the players to do the right/smart things with their cake
