I'm like that to an extent.

I'm pro choice but I set abortion aside because I legitimately understand people who are pro life even if I disagree.  I am friends with people who I disagree with on issues, health care, stimulus/spending etc.  But there's not a lot of overlap between myself and someone who lets social conservative policy lead their lives so I don't think I have anyone I'd consider a close friend who lives that way.  To me that's not so much a difference in political viewpoints as it is a difference in a way of life (drinking / pre marital sex / church 3 days a week / anti gay marriage etc).

I have one close friend who is a gun nut conservative, and more than a little bit racist. Most other people I know who are that way I just try and distance myself from them when I can.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I can't be friends with racists or homophobes. I just don't have the desire to surround myself with people who have that kind of hatred within them.

I can find enough common ground with pretty much anyone else that I'd be able to overlook our differences.

Yeah my friend isn't outright racist 99% of the time...just one of the very many upper middle class white males who can't bring himself to admit he's had some privilege in his life, thinks poor people and minorities who don't make it are just lazy, shouldn't be given assistance, have just as many opportunities as everyone else, etc.

Every once in a while he'll get really drunk and say dumb shtein that crosses the line, and I kind of just tell him to shut up at that point.

social conservatism is a deal breaker for me....I just cant/wont do it....but I feel like I couldn't really be friends with someone who was a conservative of any kind....and it wouldn't be a conscious or chosen thing...I just think a conservative in general whether it was music or the places I like to hang out or the restaurants id go to or whatever it may be just wouldn't ever mesh to the point where wed be friends...i cant put a finger on it but I just feel like that's always been the case...i have one conservative friend and i know if it wasn't for the fact that i met him when i was like 10 we wouldn't be friends now....he also is basically conservative in one way and that's the fact that hes an armed forces guy...for him there isn't a % of the budget high enough that could go to defense...he really doesnt care about any other issue

Nope. She listens to the trashy right wing shtein who don't mention facts.

Funny thing is my buddy, a Mexican, was standing right there rolling his eyes and trying to tell her she was wrong.

Also, Mexico is a little occupied with riots to worry about what's going on in the US.

it really isnt that much...I think somewhere in the ball park of 15 mil?....in the grand scheme it means little....the bigger meaning come in what they ignore and the time the spent on benghazi...for example they had something like five times more meetings and hearings on benghazi than they did on veterans affairs.....the benghazi committee was budgeted far more money than the veteran affairs committee...and many other far more meaningful committees....to focus on the money is to let the more sinister thigs that the right does go by....from day one all the republicans have cared about is destroying barry (and with beghazi also hillary)....they don't care about the country at all...they care about ruining the first black president...thats why this has been far and away the least productive congress of all time....that's the shtein the American public should focus on rather than the funds that were watsed
