Candidates are becoming more polarized and less moderate.

on the right they are....there is a fairly large coalition of moderate democrats in congress

its not like feingold lost the primary to a left wing hippie who went on to win the seat....he was trounced by a tea partier

the right has lost people like arlen spector lincoln chaffee and jim jeffords...and they are replacing them with the likes of michelle bachman and rand paul

I would argue that the moderate blue dog democrats lost to the Republicans leaving only the hard core liberals.  Result is more extremism on both sides.  Not a good mix.
