Everything I've read about Coleman has been that he's all over the place and good in the box, although small. Granted, he's not going to be a starter, but if Allen or Mikell goes down it's a disaster. Could say that about a lot of the positions.

with the possible exception of jason peters going down i cant think of one position that would be in as much trouble as safety if kurt coleman or macho harris was starting alongside a rookie

The question is would it be any better with Demps being in the mix? If he plays like he did last year, I'd say no. So keep the new guy who shows he's football smart and has value on STs.

coleman was a seventh round pick that has yet to even play a preseason snap...yes he could be way worse than quinton demps...as in he might not even make the team...yet you have him on the two deep already

not to mention you are completely dismissing the notion that demps could have a comeback type season...and im not even saying he will but he is in the mix with allen for the starting position yet you give more credence to a 7th round rook being able to play in the nfl than a third year guy who has started and is in the mix to start this year

the fact is demps isnt an nfl player and b graham is the second coming of reggie

stop being such a hater
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

SD

I don't see why it's so hard to fathom the Eagles would use a 7th round pick as a backup when they've done it time and time again with undrafted f/a's. Not saying it makes it right but a guy can either play or can't play, how he got on the team at this point doesn't matter.

ice grillin you

when have undrafted rookies time and time again been in the eagles two deep safety rotation?

i think you are mixing up UFA and rookie UFA

Reggie Brown?

The man. The myth. The legend.

Like SD said, it's not that I'm rooting for Coleman to be a backup. The hype machine is pimping him, and Demps is getting no play. If Demps is what he was last year, he's garbage. I have seen or heard anything that Demps is playing any better than he did last year. At this point what I'm saying is that it seems much more likely that the new blood makes the team. Whether or not that's a good thing is debatable, but it doesn't make it any less likely a scenario. Also, I don't think I've seen anywhere that Demps is in the mix with Allen. It's the opposite, Allen's walked away with it to this point, and will be given every opportunity to keep it. I think Demps has been running with the 2's and 3's exclusively.

in the first weeks of training camp when reporters cant buy a story to tell the hype machine is touting a small unhearlded 7th round safety who is trying to get past paralyzing a teammate....color me SHOCKED!

In fact, Demps' play thus far during training camp has been an early bright spot in a secondary with a lot of questions.

Allen has performed well, too, but Demps is definitely putting pressure on the rookie to keep his level of play high.

"That's very accurate," coach Andy Reid said when asked whether Demps is pushing Allen for the starting job. "[Demps] has been making plays. He's doing well, and that sure is a plus."

and for the record i also dont care who wins the jobs....i want the best players out there...but its just not realistic to think kurt coleman is going to be the back up safety

In 2003 the back up safety's were Clinton Hart and Quintin Mikell. Mikell was an UDFA. Hart was never drafted and played in the AFL before the Eagles signed him in 2002.

Just saying.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

this response should be good.

response to what?

your obsession with message board politics over the topic at hand?
that as long as anyone can find theres been one (hart was like 27 and coming in from the euro league hardly a rookie) UFA rookie to back up at safety?

i never said its never happened i just said it doesnt happen time and time again that its very rare and the odds are way against coleman

but OMG quinton mikell did it seven years ago....the job is kurt colemans!

i may disagree with sd and dc but at least they have thought out valid opinions

you latched on to another persons response hoping it was a gotcha havas moment...you are in fact pathetic

lol speaking of pathetic ^^^^^^

Hart never played in NFL Europe. He played 2 seasons in arena football, one of which was in their "minor league".
He was, more or less, an UDFA. Unless you're saying you believe the level of talent and competition in the AFL, which is a different game anyway, is better than or at least on par with the NCAA...then fine. That's you're opinion and you're entitled to it.

But you laughing it off like it's not possible with the way Demps played last year and the camp that the young guy is supposedly having...well, that's very havas like, as was your response. Pathetic.
