Training camp opens in 30 days and this may be the most anticipated season since 2004, but for other reasons. It is essentially the second generation of Andy Reid. There's been so much turnover and it's basically coming down to Kevin Kolb. Did they guess right or wrong?

Other than that huge question, there's a few other things that are intriguing about this year. Post what you'll be looking for, what worries you and whatever else is on your hops encrusted brains.

1. Kevin Kolb - sink or swim, tough guy. Can he not hold the ball for seven seconds? He cannot escape pressure like McNabb did. Even when McNabb stopped running, his mobility within the pocket was invaluable. Kolb has shown that he will hold it too long and chunk it up in a panic leading to horrible picks. We're going to be watching a totally different QB. Is he going to be like Aaron Rodgers or Bobby Hoying?

2. Offensive Line - Jason Peters is the only known commodity right now. Herremans is having foot problems, who the hell is going to play center (Shipley or Cole), who's going to play RG, and is Winston Justice the answer on the right side?

Damn that's a scary thought right there.

3. Will they have a commitment to the running game? Probably. Whatever ridiculous reasoning Reid had for not running with McNabb didn't carry over when someone not named McNabb was quarterbacking. They've shown by caking off Weaver to go along with adding Bell will give a nice trio with Shady added in. But it doesn't matter if the OL cannot open any holes.

4. How's McDermott's second year going to be? Last year was tough on the whole defense with the transition from JJ to him. Can he get the best out of the new additions? Can he handle Asante's freelancing? What the hell will they do at RCB? Can Ellis Hobbs play well?

5. What kind of impact will Bobby April have? Can he make Rocca a good punter? Can he improve the coverage units? I think the draft will definitely help in that area.

There's a lot to be excited about though. The skill position players have the ability to be one of the better groups in the league. Pimp, Maclin, Avant, Celek, Shady, Weaver and Ingram are all young and loaded with potential.

Defensively I like the addition of Ernie Sims, Darryl Tapp, Ricky Sapp and Brandon Graham.

I also have a feeling that this is the year that Quintin Demps shows something.

Whatcha got...

Don't ever change, Phreak.

The man. The myth. The legend.

PhillyPhreak54

I only say that because it will piss me off because he never did it with 5. He waited until Neckbeard, Senor Fiery or Heather Mitts was under center.

basically this is a thinly veiled i miss donovan mcnabb thread

cobb sucks....but....if he somehow succeeds lets make sure that it doesnt become a referendum on donovan because the only reason it will have happened is because andy reid liked kevin cobb better and made it easier for him

so in a whopping two career starts at the nfl level he has shown things?...and the things hes shown are tentativness and panic...these are shocking revelations for a guy thats played less than 15 quarters of pro football in his life!!

in those same two starts reid hasnt really shown that he will run more with cobb....much less a lot more...granted both games got out of control in different directions so its hard to get a read but the point is you made two incredibly early assumptions and both of them just happened to be pro mcnabb stances?....something stinks in fishtown

I'm not counting down to shtein. This team proves year in and year out that it's going to perpetually suck. My expectations are very low. I could care less if they all get hurt in the offseason...because we all know the end to this story. It's going to suck...really bad. And what's worse is the journey to the end.

That said, can't wait to kickoff!

Phreak said nothing about running more with Kolb.  He said when Garcia/Feeley/Detmer had to come in, they ran more.  Because Kolb isn't McNabb, the trend would be to run more.  We'll see, I doubt they'll run more, but with that mess of an O-line it may be the only viable path to success.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I am excited to see the young offensive skill players, but that isn't interesting because everyone is excited to see how they do. So here's my list of other things I'll be watching...

1. Defense. It sucked last year and while I like the additions they've made through the Draft and Ernie Sims, I also don't have much hope that their secondary will be anything other than porous. They need to shore that up if they're going to continue blitzing constantly.

2. Offensive line. So many unknowns. No consistency from year to year, game to game, possession to possession. With a new young QB this could lead to serious problems.

3. Games against the taterskins. These are always my favorite anyway, but this year it's gonna be silly.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

MMH made my point for me, but you're so focused on thinking its a "thinly veiled I miss Mcnabb thread" that you can't see well.

Do you dispute any of what I said? Do you like the OL? And what the farg does the OL being a pile of shtein have to do with McNabb?

Do you disagree that the season essentially rides on Kolb's shoulders?

theres no trend here because theres no correlation btwn back up qb's who are only starting because of injury and an annointed full time starter of the team

andys #1 qb is going to run his number one offense...i would be shocked if cobbs run pass ratio is grossly different than mcnabbs

this season does not ride on cobbs shoulders because cobb could be really good and the team might still be only 8-8...or cobb could be really bad and the team could implode and get a top three pick next year...seasons dont ride on any one players shoulder unless the team is good enough to contend in the first place...ala nicole with the phillies this year

cobbs development this year is ultra important and ill be watching for that but its not important for the teams chances this year that he play well...because it would take an aligning of the planets for them to be in the superbowl mix

my top five things im looking at this year

1. cobbs progression
2. bradleys knee
3. does sapps talent and athletisicm transfer to the pro level
3. does HOF ingram make it to the regular season...and if so how good is he
4. macks second year advancement - is he on his way to being a stud or just a nice number 2
5. can graham play in the league and actually give you something off the edge

Everyone will be watching Kolb. It's a big story and when the Eagles play the taterskins the first time, it could very well be the no.1 game in the NFL up to that point. Also, I feel that Kolb's play is a big part of how well this team does this year. When is a qb's play not an important part of a teams success? It's the most important position on the field. But the biggest question on this team isn't the play of the qb, it's the play of the offensive line. Right now, it seems to be in a shambles. Thank you Shawn Andrews.

I also feel that the Eagles will run the ball more because they have the possibility to have a very good backfield with Shady, Weaver and Bell.  Reid can't be that dumb to throw Kolb to the wolves in his first season as a starter by passing 35-40 times a game. He's got the tools in the backfield, and I expect him to use them.

I have a big interest in the wr's, and how well they will do this year. I think they will play better simply because Kolb has shown to be a more accurate passer than McNabb, and I want to see what Celek, Maclin, and Pimp can really do with a qb who has the ability to his them in stride and not have them reaching back, over their heads, or having to almost lay on the friggen' turf to catch a pass. This team has never really shown what a true west coast offense can do simply because they've never had a qb accurate enough to make it work with yac.

ice grillin you
