The Bucs had been his bitch for years prior to that game. In that game they game-planned and found holes regularly enough to score and win with an offense that had no elite weapons to speak of.

The Pats absolutely embarrassed him in the superbowl by scouting themselves effectively and running with Faulk and passing with Dillon.

bringing up the tampa game is just ludicrous...you cant think that they handled the eagles d

patriots had arguably the greatest qb ever and yes they won the game but the eagle defense played well enough to win...granted they also played well enough to lose...but again they didnt get handled by what is one of the nfl's all time great teams...they simply got beat by a better team in what was a great game

im not saying his defenses went out and won championships obviously they didnt but the revisionist history of saying the defense folded in big games or jim johnsons was somehow "handled" in big games is just made up stuff...same as saying he had lost it the last several years

i would have just liked to have seen jim johnson with some big time athletes and playmakers on defense

his best players were high motor guys like hugh douglas and many good players but they were always solid good not freaky good if you know what i mean...emmons vincent taylor ect...

dawk kearse* and possibly trotter pre injury were his only studs in his entire tenure...its a testament to jj that he was able to get so much out of what he was given

* - my biggest complaint re: jj was his use of kearse...playing him in that retarded joker role rather than as strictly an edge rusher was farging retarded and always pissed me off

And so he's in part to blame for his lack of elite talent.

You can't say, "I wish he'd had some elite talent to work with" and then completely ignore the fact that he is partially to blame for the fact that he didn't have elite talent.

Well, I suppose you can, but only if you make a living out of talking out of both sides of your mouth.

he had absolutely no part in drafting players

a certain type of player (ie small quicker type tackles) may have been sought out by andy and heckert for his defense but the actual players chosen had zero input from jj...he was a coach not a scout

Against Tampa they hardly blitzed at all, any other time they played them they would kill them with the blitz.  Brad Johnson was a statue.

Payton always pretty much owned him.  Say what you want in the SB he got killed in the second half, remember New Englands opening drive that half?

Whatever the dude was a great DC and it is a shame he had to go earlier than he should have.

Im having a real hard time believing that when it comes to picking up players on HIS defense in the draft, jim johnson was not sitting around the table giving major feedback that would alter their decision-making in the player chosen

rjs246

No dude. He had no input. He was barely even there. He was sitting on the beach planning how to blitz opposing QBs with mystery players that he had never heard of.

Obviously.

Who cares?

I don't mind to see bad things happen to bad people.  Now he's gone.  Let me be the first to say good riddance.

If my mother died. I would be upset. I wouldn't expect strangers who never met her to be upset.
