Coldest place on Earth is Great Lakes. I finished bootcamp during Thanksgiving weekend but had to wait around for orders unitl early Feb because my recruiter farged some paper work up that had to do with my clearance. One day in January it was -55 wind chill and the recruits weren't allowed outside but I was assigned gate guard duty so I had to make it to my post, the wind was so cold and strong it hit a nerve in my head and I shtein you not I got brain freeze. Tell your son to keep his mouth shut during the moment of truth regardless of what they tell him.

In case he hasn't seen these yet they're a good crash course of what he'll be going through for the next 10 weeks

Record-breaking whale stranded on Irish beach dies as rescuers struggle to save itBy Fay Schlesinger

Motionless in the shallows off the coast he lay, as his life ebbed away.

It was a sorry end for the young fin whale, found trapped on a sand bank yesterday morning.

Although his carcass was left by the shore, apparently mourned by just a single surfer, this whale did not die without a fight.

His final hours were testament to the bond between one of Earth's largest animals and humankind - as up to 5,000 flocked to the beach to try to help him back to sea.

The 65ft whale, whose species is endangered, had been spotted by lifeboatmen at their station at 8am. Then he was alive and spouting water from his blow-hole.

Michael Hurley, of the Courtmacsherry Lifeboat Station in Ireland, said: 'His tail was in the air waving about. I could see the spume of water being blown up.'

closest thing I've ever had to what people call a spiritual experience was with a whale.  I know it's not saying much, but they are better than humans, and when you look one in the eye, you know it.
