Yep. These are the sorts of things that the Repubelican party would prefer people stay ignorant of.

I thought the speech was good (shocker, I know).  It was quite rousing at the end when he called on Americans to stand up and fight for what is right.  If you were waiting for a train wreck of a speech, you were disappointed if you listened with even half of an open mind.

I admit that I only watched about 20 minutes of the speech and turned it off as soon as he started talking about his time as a POW, but the only parts that I was impressed with were the sections of his speech where he pandered to moderates, shocking I know. Talking about working together and sharing responsibility and credit and not caring about who's ideas are used as long as they are good ideas. The rest of his speech just sounded like typical partisan talking points. "I was a POW", "Winning the war", "Protecting the country", "I was a POW", "Lowering taxes", "I was a POW", "America can do anything when we put our mind to it because we're all a bunch of good old boys who believe that sayings like that replace actual political talk", "I WAS A POW!"... absolutely no substance.

On top of that, the dude can't speak effectively and looks like his face is going to break every time he tries to smile.

the USA chants were disturbing, as well as him being a "Mama's Boy"

So if Obama wins and is able to enact his tax plan, I pay over 2 grand less in taxes AND my poor ass family pays less in taxes AND I don't have to worry about the party that has driven this country into the shteinter being in power?

Even without this lovely graph, I really don't understand the "Republicans will cut taxes for me and make my life better" argument.

Well, it's pretty easy to see why the wealthy don't like Obama.....
Anyone but Reid.

In reading over his speech from last night I was reminded of another thing I was pleased with. He mentioned the fact that our economy and all of this country's socio-political systems were designed before the reality of a global marketplace. He approached it from a very typically republican angle, but the fact that many of our government support systems were designed in the 1930s is an important point that hadn't really been brought up before.

Well, that speech might have impressed me in 2000, when he still had some credibility as a reformer.  The problem is that what he has done isn't matching with what he says - for example:
QuoteI don't work for a party. I don't work for a special interest.

Except that he's voted 90% with Bush, and is taking lobbyist and special interest money.

QuoteI've fought big spenders in both parties, who waste your money on things you neither need nor want, while you struggle to buy groceries, fill your gas tank and make your mortgage payment.

While he selects for VP the Governor of the State / Mayor of the city who has a record of receiving pork at levels orders of magnitude larger than any other state or city in the country.

QuoteGovernment that doesn't make your choices for you, but works to make sure you have more choices to make for yourself.

So, he's now pro-choice?

QuoteAs President I will work to establish good relations with Russia so we need not fear a return of the Cold War.

...and I'll start by threatening military action.

You know, he might just be pandering to the Republicans and is really planning to do everything he says.  You might even have been able to convince me that was the case - until he selected the right-wing, fundamentalist, pork-loving "executive" for his VP.  Every day it is increasingly clear that he is dancing on Republican puppet strings instead of running his own campaign.

In other news...

Did anyone notice that they had to spell nuclear phonetically ("new-clear") in Palin's speech, so that she wouldn't say "new-kyu-lar"?
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

Cerevant

I...um...yeah:
QuoteAccording to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, the American people don't care whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions about foreign and domestic policy. According to Wallace -- in an appearance I did with her this morning on Joe Scarborough's show -- the American people will learn all they need to know (and all they deserve to know) from Palin's scripted speeches and choreographed appearances on the campaign trail and in campaign ads.

Man, I'm so glad they're getting all they deserve. Which party is the one that keeps calling the other elitist?

The man. The myth. The legend.

Wingspan

Palin is the only candidate in history to have speeches written for her, and has her campaign stops planned out.

Obama on the other hand, randomly and sincerely pops up in front of massive crowds and riles them up. As well as kicks his teleprompters to the ground and riffs for hours.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.
