The fact that IGY equates 'red states' with racism and intolerance is enough to make my ass twitch. Being a bigot is not a prerequisite for being a conservative.

As far as McCain goes, 8 years ago I liked him. He was fairly liberal socially and seemed to have his head on straight fiscally. Now, he's a rah rah pro-war douche who has changed his stance on social issues to cater to the right wing nutjobs who decide the presidential candidates. Essentially he sold his soul for a shot at the Republican nomination. farg McCain.

Actually I looked up his voting record and he's pretty consistently voted against abortion, for stem cell research, and he has a nuanced approach to gun control that pisses off both sides. He's been pretty consistent when I look at his voting record and compare it to what he says.

As far as the war goes even though we are there on a false premise we can not just pull out and wait for Al Qaeda to turn the country into the next staging area for attacks on the region. If Iraq were to descend into chaos it would most likely bring the surrounding countries with it and that would most likely crash the world economy as most of the oil comes from that region. Gotta maintain stability till we get off the oil crack.

Bush made a bed of thorns and we have to lay in it. Pulling out is running away from the problems we've created by being stupid in the first place.

Just my misguided opinion I'm sure but I have a vote and it counts. Be afraid...

I've liked McCain since I voted for him in the primary against Bush years ago, so I'm going with him again. I think he's looked the most presidential of the lot and true conservatives think he's a lib anyway but that's more because they're brainwashed zombies.

Don't worry. I know you hippies disagree....

Right now McCain actually has a shot of getting a republican back to the white house after one of the worst presidents in the history of the country which is unreal.

Somewhere in between those two opinions of McCain is the truth.  Speaking of which, what the hell does "looks presidential" mean?  Is that when someone's "ready"?

You are not going to convince him (or Dio) otherwise.  Everyone who believes in any small-government ideals or other conservative ideology is a dumb racists hick.  Get on board, or they may ship you to the south, where all of us racists live.  Maryland, if you hadn't heard is NOT in the south and contains all the tolerant Democrats.

Bush does not and has never looked presidential. He can not even form complete sentances. I want a president who won't embarass himself or herself everytime he has to have a newsconference. Appearances do matter in politics on the world stage. Of course Obama wins that hands down if it were just that.

I want you to buy one of those for every one of us, and we'll all get together and sing "Kum Ba Ya".

So whats up with McCains wife?  She stutters really bad, does she have an impediment or alzheimers?

There are really two kinds of Conservatism

Social conservatism which has a large bunch of subtle racist bible thumping freaks (but not always)
Fiscal conservatism which is really just about responsible money management in government.

Bush is a liberal fiscally and conservative socially.

even tho i like obamas positions much better than hillary i dont think hes ready yet

WTF does that mean?  What does he need to do to be "ready"?  Sit in the Senate for 8 more years?

He was obviously drafted for depth.

Liberals are just as intolerant and racist as conservatives.  The difference, it seems, is that they don't want that racism to be institutional in nature.  They likely hate blacks, hispanics, etc. but wouldn't have a problem voting for one or living next to one or working with one.  Just don't have little Tiffany bring home Jamal with an "announcement" and the world is right as rain.
