Jimmy was a much better fielder than jeter...in fact jeter is incredibly overrated when it comes to defense

I didn't want to be the one to say it because I'd come off as biased but I 100% agree. Jimmy is as good of a fielder as Ozzie Smith was. Maybe he wasn't as flashy and didn't do somersalts but he was every bit as good.

i love jeter...I mean who doesn't....but hes one of my favorite non philly athletes ever....but forget comparing him to jimmy he is just plain overrated when it comes to the field...there are so many balls jeter could only dream of getting to that jimmy made look relatively easy

BA is a poor criteria to judge the worthiness of a HOF player. Jimmy's very similar to Larkin stat wise in almost every category except BA and he has a higher career fielding % than Ozzie Smith.

BA is a far less problematic statistic than fielding %, which can be significantly hurt by a player's range. Most of the advanced defensive stats that take things like that into account have Smith as far and away the best defensive shortstop in history (although Jimmy is still excellent, certainly within the top 20 shortstops). In my opinion, that is what the eye test showed as well.
