Love Jimmy, nothing he ever says should tarnish his image. He's a staple of the Philadelphia sports scene and maybe the most underrated player over the past 30 years in this city. He 100% deserves to be in the Hall. He earned that respect.

agreed and i have no issue with what he said, he didnt even single philly out. he said it's an east coast thing, nothing more, which it is.
If guns kill people then spoons made Rosie O'Donnel a fatass.

He said this later in the interview (if you read the whole thing on foxsports):

Quote from: Jimmy RollinsI loved playing there. There is no doubt about that. It made me who I am. Playing there — I don't know — but it prepared me for this. This is so loose in comparison to Philly. I know how to go about my business. I know the boundaries. I won't cross 'em. I know what is on the other side isn't good. But you like that feeling. I know what I can get away with. I know what I can't get away with. Just because I can doesn't mean I should. But I get to make that decision.

A total non-issue to anyone with a brain.

of course.

and i'm even more sure that a loud brotha like jroll decided to be nice now that he's in l.a. and used the term, "blue collar" instead of racist pig like he really thinks.

because he's free to be himself now so why hold back right ?

could care less about any of this

the legend ran with it because thats what he does....good or bad, sensible or not, he's there to entertain

jimmy was the man but was not perfect. no one is. he got booed sometimes because he didnt run out ground balls. he's black and speaks his mind, so that surely doesnt help. anyway, who cares.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

100% in Phillies hall of fame but not the baseball hall of fame.  I'm in the camp that don't think his comments are that bad.  Wait until they trade Hamels and Papelbon.

SD

pc why not the regular hall? Match him up with Shortstops over the past 20-30 years and he has better stats both hitting and fielding, won an MVP, and has a WS ring.

Geowhizzer

He has about 2300 hits right now.  If he can get up to 2750-2800, he's got a good shot at getting in.  Right now his numbers look a lot like Alan Trammell's.

EDIT:  With more steals.

This sounds about right.  Here is a snippet about shortstops making the hall:

The BBWAA has voted in just six post-integration players who either played most of their games or had their most valuable seasons at shortstop 1: Luis Aparacio, Ernie Banks, Barry Larkin, Cal Ripken, Jr., Ozzie Smith, and Robin Yount. So it seems there have been three different ways for a shortstop to get voted into the Hall of Fame by the BBWAA.
1. Reach a career batting milestone (3,000 hits or 500 pre-steroid-era home runs) that guarantees induction regardless of what position you played.
2. Amass more innings at short than any of your peers at short and own a reputation as the outstanding fielding shortstop of your time.
3. Retire with a career batting average near .300.

In the first category one finds Banks (512 home runs), Ripken (3,184 hits) and Yount (3,142 hits). In the second category one finds Aparacio (most defensive games at short upon retirement and 9 Gold Gloves) and Ozzie Smith (second-most defensive games at short upon retirement and 13 Gold Gloves). In the third category, one finds Larkin (.295 career batting average).

SD

BA is a poor criteria to judge the worthiness of a HOF player. Jimmy's very similar to Larkin stat wise in almost every category except BA and he has a higher career fielding % than Ozzie Smith. For #3 who's been a better defensive NL SS over Jimmy's career? AL I guess you can make the case for Jeter but I'd say defensively they're at the very least on par.

smeags

2306 hits
479 doubles
111 triples
216hrs
887 rbi
453 stolen bases
.983% fielding

:yay hof IMO

I didn't want to be the one to say it because I'd come off as biased but I 100% agree. Jimmy is as good of a fielder as Ozzie Smith was. Maybe he wasn't as flashy and didn't do somersalts but he was every bit as good.

smeags

jimmy didnt look as flashy as ozzie because it came easier to him.
