Like Z said, ain't my money.

Either way, there's nothing saying that if they don't move him by this weekend, they have to keep him all year. Guys around the league get hurt, demands change. Bet his price goes up then. Granted, that doesn't help this year in that scenario, but neither does a late 6th rounder that they'll trade into next year anyway.

Asante helps the 2012 Eagles more than a 6th round pick.

its not about that...he doesnt fit in the eagles plans this year and they are trying to get whatever they can....they arent moving him because they want an extra 6th...they want him gone regardless and are hoping to salvage something from him

if you dont want him gone then it should be because you think hes much better than DRC and should be starting instead...i personally disagree with that but its a fair and maybe even correct argument...however complaining about what they are getting back for him in a trade is completely besides the point

They dont care about the draft pick--all that matters is they trade him the eagles are 20 mill some under the cap. Banner's boner is at an all time length with this news.

Reflecting back here's how I look at it:

Asante is too big of a personality. Meaning he's not going to quietly sit on the bench while DRC starts ahead of him. They're not going to sit DRC becuase they want to see what they have as a starter so they can sign him to a long term deal. In a perfect world Asante plays the outside and DRC lines up in the slot, only DRC is not a slot CB. So they can't sit him like they did last season and he's not good in the slot. So their options are either start DRC on the outside and let Asante sit, or move Asante. You can't start DRC on the outside and sit Asante, there's no way that would work and the Eagles know it. So instead of releasing him they got what they could for him. Now they have 4 6th round picks.

I really hope there is some other news not being reported yet with this deal--like a say another player in return along with the 6th

you could bench DRC...they did last year....but hes in the last year of his deal and they want to see if hes a long term answer

but yeah id love to assantes face when the eagles tell him hes bench depth this year

its also the fact that they have some deals to re do in shady and macklin...with assantes money gone this is something you will see before the november cut off

dont discount the fact that assante is a one trick pony as far as him playing off people and jumping a route...and fact is he declined noticably in that area last year as age will do to everyone...and when that goes hes gonna go down and go down fast....kinda like iverson did when he lost that burst

Everything you said is spot on but the bold part is something I hadn't thought about.  I guess if you want to take the most homer/optimistic view of the situation, they'd be trading Samuel for a 6th + Maclin and/or Shady long term.  If getting him off the books means they get deals done with those guys this year then I'd be more in favor of it.

Green Bay Packers have released S Nick Collins. The transaction was announced Wednesday by Ted Thompson

they released him because he's not sure he'll ever play again.  in fact the team and his agent were urging him to quit because of his neck
