i dont think anyone thought he would play as well as he did...he exceeded my expectations and i thought it was assinine to let him go

money was probably the worst reason to have not resigned him...they were like 41 million under the cap that year and the nfl was heading into an uncapped year the next season...plus he got less than 10 million guaranteed over five years...it was peanuts

Gotta stick to the spreadsheet that says "Thou Shalt Not Overpay For Anything But DE (FASTBALLZ) & Corners"

And for some reason this off season they actually extend two guys that are over 30.

Slightly different philosophy this year. Andy knows that he is out of a job if this team doesn't make a splash.

I remember Dawk making big plays for the Eagles, I also remember him bouncing off of Larry Fitz in the Championship game, like 4-5 times. It was sad to watch. Looking back, the Eagles were never gonna' match Denver's offer, no matter what, so it's all really mute. If Dawk loved Philly so much, he'd have taken Banner's low ball offer to fininsh his career in green. Not that I blame him, unless your a fan, it's always about the money, always. Even with all he'd made in his career, he took the bigger offer, even though leaving was "like someone dying". Ha! Yeah, right. He was probably insulted and said, Farg You Philly! Don't gimme' a bunch of crap about how hard it was to leave, I guess 10 mill was enough grease for the rails he rode outta' town on. But all the fans cry, Joe Banner is the Devil for letting Dawk leave!! Newsflash, nobody let anybody leave. Dawk left for mo' monie. Money is the fuel that drives every move made in sports and mostly in life also.

Schefter reporting Asante to ATL for a 6th-rd pick is close to done

Sgt PSN

Meh. I want him gone but not sure if I want him practically given away.

SunMo

he must not be willing to restructure because a more cap friendly contract should get better than a 6th

ice grillin you

i dont get the restructure part of it unless a team that wants him is currently less than 10 mil under the cap...and if thats case hed have to restructure or they couldnt take him no matter what

but otherise he only has two years left on his deal and minimal dead money if cut....contract shouldnt be a big deal if you want him enough

i think the low pick has to do with the fact that everyone knows hes gonna be cut if the eagles cant move him so why would they give up anything of worth for someone they could get for free

The Eagles don't HAVE to cut him though. They can handle his money easily and flat out, he has more value than a 6th round pick. If you don't get a better offer, you hold onto him.

Maybe this is when an EXPERIENCED def. coordinator would have come in handy to make it work with these guys.

SunMo

yeah but how many 9 million dollar players do you see on the bench?

it's easy to say they can keep him for depth, but in the nfl you can't have depth like that.  it appears they've made their decision that DRC and Nnamdi are their starting corners moving forward so you can't keep asante.  now, you could disagree that they should start DRC or Nnamdi over him but i just don't see keeping a big money player for depth.

ice grillin you

you could bench DRC...they did last year....but hes in the last year of his deal and they want to see if hes a long term answer

but yeah id love to assantes face when the eagles tell him hes bench depth this year

its also the fact that they have some deals to re do in shady and macklin...with assantes money gone this is something you will see before the november cut off

dont discount the fact that assante is a one trick pony as far as him playing off people and jumping a route...and fact is he declined noticably in that area last year as age will do to everyone...and when that goes hes gonna go down and go down fast....kinda like iverson did when he lost that burst
