Call me crazy, but shouldn't Andy be targeting EXTERIOR linemen? I'm not getting fired up about an improvement at the center position...

No no no, you build from the middle, and push those guys outside when you find upgrades. There's no such thing as tackles or guards, just offensive linemen. Look at how often Tra and Runyan moved inside due to injuries!

The man. The myth. The legend.

If they re-sign Thomas, Andrews comes back mentally, and the most they use is one of the first round draft picks for a T, I would be ecstatic about this move. But those are a lot of ifs.

there are no tackles on the market...he would be addressing two positions with this move...upgrading herremans at G and "acquiring" a tackle in herremans

The BIGSTUD

Everyone is saying Brown would play LG, but I don't think so. Jackson was mediocre at best. I think Brown would play center, Nick Cole would play LG, and Herremans would play tackle.

Jackson would go bye-bye.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

Everyone says that because Brown has expressed interest in playing guard.

he wants to play guard because hes a much better guard than center and of course because guards get paid more...he was very inconsistent at center last year some of which might have to do with changing to that position...dook is a guard and imo playing him at center would be wasting his talents

IMO Jean-Gilles is a good run blocker and we need to improve inside running game.  I hope he doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

A very interesting 24 hours lies ahead for the Baltimore Ravens.

And the first domino has fallen. According to an NFL source, the club has informed center Jason Brown that he is not in their plans for the 2009 season.

Brown, who turns 26 in June, is expected to garner immediate, strong interest from four or five clubs when the NFL's free-agency period opens at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Brown started in '06 and '07 at guard for the Ravens, before moving to center to replace Mike Flynn last season.

The move to let Brown leave allows Baltimore to focus on its two free-agent linebackers, Bart Scott and Ray Lewis.

he's the left guard and herremans in the RT?

imo (subject to training camp battles and on the assumption that tra is gone)

LT - herremans/1st rounder
LG - brown (was great next to JO in this spot with balt)
C -   jj/nick cole
RG - andrews
RT - veteran FA/1st rounder

i'm not sure that herremans has the footwork to play left tackle...i would feel better putting someone there who has played that consistently and isn't moving there from guard

oh, and i'm assuming Tra is back and Jon isn't because that's the feel im getting listening to Gargano on WIP

at 36 and microfractured up runyan is done as far as im concerned until i see and hear otherwise

and i sort of agree on herremans which is why i think the LT position will be up for grabs in camp but with him as the favorite...and i think he was out of position at guard...is he good enough to be a tackle in the nfl...i dont know but thats definitely his position

if tra comes back then everything of course changes...maybe they dont even go after brown if that happens and instead plan on using their picks on lineman to develop for a year

Herremans played well subbing for Tra, but its whether he's consistent.
