acquire more than one #1 wr in ten years

there isnt even one wr they have gotten in the draft FA or trade that they even planned on or thought would be a #1

the lack of talent evaluation refers to guys who they thought would be 2's or 3's and were worse than that...its not like they were the  lions who intended to get #1's and missed...the eagles missed on even getting good wr's...so your talent evaluation argument only flys if they were making big time moves for #1 guys and they didnt pan out

The fact is they refuse to sign or draft a true #1 receiver  That's igy's point.

DeSean is a nice player, but come on... he'll never be a true #1 at his size.  They got Curtis who's a #2, and the year before that they got Stallworth who's also a good #2.

Avant, Baskett, et al are nothing more than filler receivers; #3's at best.

Regardless, take Reid's own words over the years for proof they don't want a #1.  He honestly believes the best way to win a Super Bowl is to get a lot of receivers and then rotate them.  10 years later he's yet to prove his theory, but goddamn it, he's STILL TRYING!

The BIGSTUD

Who was available either a) in free agency   that they passed on or b) in the draft that they passed on who was this great #1 WR? It is hard to get #1 WRs in this league. Teams don't just give them up and they don't often hit free agency. You use the Lions as an example, but the Lions are drafting in the top 10 every year. So how do they compare with the Eagles who are usually picking toward the bottom of the rounds?

As for Jackson, well you can say he'll never be a true #1, but he's the best WR in the entire draft class, so not sure what your issue with Jackson is. The only one that rivals him right now is Eddie Royal.

You want an elite WR, and I want an elite WR. They aren't easy to get though. If Boldin gets dealt to the Giants this offseason and the Eagles stand pat, then I will be furious. But the rare time good players are actually available, they are usually asking for ridiculous prices. The Lions with Roy Williams, the Bengals with Chad Johnson, etc.

I understand where you are coming from, but there aren't really any other moves the Eagles could have made. You say get a #1 WR, but where? They don't grow on trees.

Ok, then give me some names if it is such a bad argument. I'll give you a name. Randy Moss. He was the one guy the Eagles could've had at a great price and passed on. But so did 30 other NFL teams. He was coming off a bad year with hamstring problems and the attitude issues were still lingering. Other than that, who did you want? You laugh at the argument, but if it is so bad then give me names of these great WRs they passed on. Roy Williams for a 1st, 3rd, and 6th round pick? Please. Chad Johnson for two 1st round picks? Torry Holt for a 1st round pick? Eric Moulds? Michael Clayton?

Who could they have had in the drafts that was so great that they passed on? Give me some names.

I've stated that I don't like the way the Eagles run things the majority of the time, but if you actually look at who was available and what the Eagles do, the criticisms for WRs is unwarranted.

Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson, and Chris Chambers were on the board when Reid&Co chose Freddie Mitchell, Steve Smith iddn't go until the third round that year.   They passed on Chris Chambers a second time when he was available via trade.

Magical_Retard

Its a combo of them not caring enough for the position and them not being good talent evaluators when they even select WRs in the later rounds.

Dangerous combo for a pass first team.

Reid simply believes you field the best pass blocking OLINE and you can win with Trash, Pinkston, Freddie, Brown, Hank Baskett, Curtis, and who ever else I am forgetting.

Exactly. Horrible talent evaluation, which is what I have been saying all along. They took Freddie Mitchell that year in the first round.

Torry Holt switched to the same agent as Orlando Pace (and Housh and Juqua).  Rotoworld thinks the Eagles are an "obvious" fit because of need and because of Spagnuolo.  uh....no.

Surely that is the death knell for the Reggie Brown era.

I can't believe how far off the radar screen Brown has fallen.

Yeah, the Marvin Harrison comparisons were idiotic, but geez... how do you go from being a solid #2 type receiver to a guy who is behind Greg Lewis on the depth chart?

You get hurt all the time and drop every pass thrown your way when you're healthy.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.
