Comcast came around yesterday trying to get my business, I wish they would have made a better effort a few months ago or I would have never left. Verizon isn't bad but I was just as happy with Comcast.

farg that vigy, I'm not lookin' to argue all the time.  sometimes she's right, too.  so what the hell, it's a lot easier to just let her do her thing

I'm sure you rule with an iron fist though, and everyone's happier for it tough guy

Verizon may strike

If they strike and it effects my cable I'm switching back to comcrap

maybe someone here can help me out...i have comcast cable internet...have had 3 or 4 different people logged onto my wireless before with no problems, i have a super fast connection...

i'm having a fantasy draft tonight and like 7 or 8 people are going to be at my place, will everyone be able to link up to my wireless?  i figured they could but someone else told me that they have a 4 connection limit at their house.  anyone know how this works, if it's standard comcast or if it goes by location?

mussa

ive never heard of there being a limit...

Did Comcast set up your router or do they support it at all?

If not, you're fine.  The cable companies tried and failed years ago to sell individual IP's, because people just set up their own routers.  The router makes it appear like 1 computer accessing the modem, not 7-8.

phattymatty

i've never heard of a limit either, other than these two people who both have dc comcast that are coming over.

and yeah i bought it and hooked it up myself, it's not a comcast router.  just a standard linksys wireless.

PoopyfaceMcGee

Unless DC Comcast is running some sort of pilot program doomed for failure and backlash, you're fine.

Don't underestimate the power of the nerd LAN gamers lobby.

General_Failure

Linksys will let you limit the number of connections, and can even limit connections to approved MAC addresses. Chances are its set up for no limit if you haven't touched it.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Cerevant

The people you talked to probably had a Comcast provided wireless connection.  Then Comcast can configure it to do whatever they want.

If you hooked up your own linksys, you are fine.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

whatever you do, don't let more than four people connect at once or the internet police will be at your door

If two people are looking at one computer, does that count as two connections?

BTW...Comcast announced that they are putting a cap on their Internet users. Something like 250 gig per month. Those who exceed the limit will get a friendly letter, asking them to cut back. Repeat offenders will have their service suspended.
