Morgan Ensberg got DFA'd by the Astros today.  Man - he was an All-Star two years ago and now he's basically out on his ass soon to be looking for a job.

Also - San Diego dropped 11 runs on the Astros in the first inning this afternoon.

He almost single-handedly ruined my fantasy team last year.  If I hadn't picked up that young slugger from the Phillies, I would have not made the playoffs.

Of course, this year my 3B is Casey Blake, so I'm not doing much better... and my 1B is Prince Fielder.

Taylor Buchholz, Jason Hirsh and Willy Taveras for Jason farging Jennings is one of the worst trades in recent memory. Jennings has an ERA of 6 in like 10 starts and Hirsh and Taveras are doing really well for the Rockies. Buchholz had a good start or two, he never pitches. Jennings is in the last year of his deal too, the Asstros probably won't even resign him.

Saltalamacchia is a dead-bang can't miss prospect.  He alone for Teixeira is a great deal for Texas.  Throwing in the other three prospects is icing on the cake.

Nice trade for the Rangers.

BTW: That trade has to rate as the weirdest transfer of last names in the history of the game.

I don't get why Atlanta didn't try to play Saltalamacchia at first base. It isn't exactly hard to learn. He's good at getting balls out of the dirt because he's a catcher, so why give away 4 for 1?

Apparently, playing first wasn't the issue:

The Braves were reluctant to part with "Salty," who also can play first base. But they would have no place to play him if they had Teixeria through '08; catcher Brian McCann is signed through 2012 with a club option for '13.

Then again, Schuerholz has a knack of making these trades work in Atlanta's favor.

How farging stupid is this quote? You wouldn't have Teixeria in 08 if they didn't trade Saltalamacchia.

I won't be surprised if the trade works out, but it definitely wasn't needed.
