They made some big plays on D, but I don't think anyone is confident enough to say the "bend, don't break" D is back. They have just been too inconsistent all year to have any confidence that a few INTs the past couple of weeks all of a sudden puts this team into the realm of a turnover making machine.

When the Eagles did give up a lot of yards but not a lot of points, I think everyone could feel confident that the worst damage would just going to be a FG. With this team, that confidence is shot.

Also, the 'bending' has been considerably closer to the goal line. Doesn't really spark too much confidence when the Eagles bend all the way to the 4, 5, or 6 yard line.

Heh. :paranoid

Sarcasm is lost on internet message boards sometimes. Do you want me to start talking ebonics or something, IGY? Chyeah. ::)

Anyways, the Giants have beaten one team in the last 5 weeks....it's the same team the Jeff Garcia Eagles beat. The Giants were/are imploding and on a downward spiral and the only thing that stopped them was getting to play another team on a downward spiral. Just like the Eagles.

But no, the Giants, with thier plethora of injuries....are vastly supperior, not to mention better coached. Yo.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

having the 29th ranked rush defense and being 30th in TOP might work against the skins and panthers but its not going to work at the meadowlands against the giants

Man - you are seriously overrating that bullshtein team, IGY.

Thank you.

But this is also the same guy that said the Eagles had ZERO chance of beating the taterskins at FedEx....

I never said it was "back", I said they've been playing more like it lately, and IF they can keep it up, they gotta good chance to win against the Giants.

I never said they'd defiantely win the game and that we should be confident. Not at all. This team could be 2-1 or 0-3 the rest of the way. There's no way to tell what could happen.

bend dont break is not the same as getting steamrolled every game but scoring a few defensive touchdowns

and bend dont break means not giving up pts...when the eagles were at their best they were always in the top five pts allowed and usually higher....i believe they were #1 one year and #2 another

this year they are in the 20's in pts

also bend dont break works against bad teams but not against good ones....which is why andy among other reasons is 16-30 in his career vs teams with winning records

the defense just plain sucks this year its not even close to some sort of bend dont break scenario
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Right. I don't disagree.

But they've done things the last two games that I havn't seen them do since Lito's Pick 6 against Dallas. They've made plays and forced turnovers.

If they can do that against  the Giants, it greatly improves thier chance of winning the game.

Turnovers and defensive td's are great and all but instead of relying on them to make big plays defensively, how about they go out there and do the little things instead.  Like the d line putting pressure on the QB.  The lb's hitting the right gaps and actually tackling.  If this defense was capable of doing the things they were taught in pee wee league then they wouldn't need to worry about making the big plays on defense.

I know this is probably just crazy talk but if the defense can do that against the Giants, it greatly improves their chances of winning the game.

NGM

The Eagles getting Laron Landry AND Gaines Adams in this year's draft greatly improves their chances of beating the Giants next year.

The Giants match up too well with the Eagles when they have the ball.

Cerevant

Turnovers and big plays were never part of the Eagles defensive game plan.  It was all about preventing big plays and forcing field goals.

                                      2004      2006

Time of Possession:       26th        30th
Rushing D:                     16th        29th
Takeaways:                   15th          8th
Scoring D:                        3rd        20th

Time of possession means nothing to the success of this team.  Being in the bottom half of the league in rushing D doesn't matter to this team.  Takeaways are meaningless (Arizona is #4 in takeaways this year, San Diego #13 and New Orleans is #30).  It is all about scoring D, and this year the Eagles suck at Scoring D.

You know what the defense hasn't been doing since that pick 6 versus Dallas?

1. Tackling
2. Stopping the run
3. Pressuring the QB
4. Sacking the QB
5. Getting off the field on 3rd down
6. Keeping Points off the board

Trying to equate the late game turnovers this team has made... (due in part to dumb decisions/plays by the other team) to JJ's "bend but don't break" is just stupid.  Because that's exactly what this defense has been doing... breaking left and right.

The Giants have been playing much better ball the last two weeks.  Even when they lost to the Cowboys two weeks ago... the Giants outplayed them and they blew out the Panthers team in Carolina that we struggled with at home just the week before.

This team blew their chance to beat the Giants this year in the 4th quarter back in week 2.

I'm sure it's already been said, but the Giants' O-Line is pretty bad. And another starter, O'Hara, may be out too. That coupled with my belief anything is possible makes me certain the Eagles will pull out a win. Westbrook will make the Giants his bitches.

I thinks it's pretty much a guarantee they won't do those things. This defense has show the only chance it has is to make big plays.

I will say that with Eli Manning at QB, the big defensive play is always likely. I don't know where the sudden love for him is coming since last week, but he was just as inaccurate and made poor decisions against the Panthers as he has all year. He just didn't get any picked off...

3. Pressuring the QB

That's the real pisser.  We were all joking around at the bar on Sunday every time Campbell dropped back we would all count, "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,........."  the guy had all day.
