the defense just plain sucks this year

Right. I don't disagree.

But they've done things the last two games that I havn't seen them do since Lito's Pick 6 against Dallas. They've made plays and forced turnovers.

If they can do that against  the Giants, it greatly improves thier chance of winning the game.

You know what the defense hasn't been doing since that pick 6 versus Dallas?

1. Tackling True
2. Stopping the run True
3. Pressuring the QB True
4. Sacking the QB True
5. Getting off the field on 3rd down False
6. Keeping Points off the board True and False

Trying to equate the late game turnovers this team has made... (due in part to dumb decisions/plays by the other team) to JJ's "bend but don't break" is just stupid.  Because that's exactly what this defense has been doing... breaking left and right.

The Giants have been playing much better ball the last two weeks.  Even when they lost to the Cowboys two weeks ago... the Giants outplayed them and they blew out the Panthers team in Carolina that we struggled with at home just the week before.

This team blew their chance to beat the Giants this year in the 4th quarter back in week 2.

That's two other things that this defense has done better at over the laast two games. They've made more 3rd down stops then they have been (The only reason why I remember this is because of how pleasnantly suprised I'd be during the Panthers and taterskins games when they'd make a 3rd down stop), and as for points....Yes, they allowed 24 to the Panthers, but when it came down to making the stop for the game win...They did. Something they didn't do against NO or Tampa Bay. And they only allowed 1 TD to the taterskins, after being on the field way too many times/for far too long. Reid, despite being up 21-3, 21-6, thought it was still cool to pass 3 downs in a row and didn't try to even run the ball twice in a row. Eventually, with all the chances they got, the taterskins were gonna kick enough field goals to catch up.

Now to beat the giants, they gotta get off the field on 3rd down more like they have been, they gotta keep the giants in the 14-24 point range, and just continue what they have been doing....Do just enough to keep the offense in the game, let Brian Westbrook and the passing game do its thing. Throw in a couple turnovers, and this will be a very good NFC East game.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Are you watching the same team as the rest of us? Did you happen to miss the 3rd and forevers we had the Skins in being converted by Jason farging Campbell and Jake Delhomme into 1st downs because of our lousy pass rush? I don't want to go rjs on you but get a farging clue.

I only remember one 3rd and long convereted in the taterskins game, and it was the one where Moss went over the middle and...surprisingly enough....MLew got out of posistion on the pass.

Against the Panthers, they made a few 3rd down stops that I certianly wasn't expecting them to make.

Before these past two games, they were giving up EVERY 3rd down. Over the past two weeks I've seen them at least make enough stops on 3rd down to keep the Eagles in the game. Hell, look at the first half of the Panthers game.....I think I remember the announcers saying it was cloose to some sort of record for the amount of total punts in the first half of a Monday Night Football game.

They weren't talking about the total punts... they were talking about us.  They mentioned that during our 6th punt midway through the 2nd quarter.

Well considering that the Panthers only scored once in the first half (and once in the final seconds on the half), they were punting just as much as we were, no?

Well yeah... but it's been well documented how much the Panthers offense has been struggling... not being able to convert 3rd downs, Delhomme even jacked up his thumb on their 1st TD... not that he's been playing that well anyway.  The Giants don't have any such problems on offense.

Like I said earlier... they've been playing a lot better and they're not as likely to shoot themselves in the foot... which is what this defense will need them to do.  Just as they needed Carolina to do... and just like they needed the Jason Campbell led Skins to do.

You're downtalking the Panthers, but giving the Giants all the credit in the world when that has been thier only win in the past 5 weeks. Not to mention the QB is Eli effin Manning, and the offensive AND defensive lines are decimated.

The Giants are so overrated around here it's crazy.

All the defense has to do is keep the Giants to somewhere in the 14-24 point range. Do just enough to keep the Eagles in it. It should be a good game.

I don't have to downtalk the Panthers.  They're 6-7 and they're falling apart.

The Panthers are on a downswing.  The Giants are on an upswing.  simple.

And you say "hold them to 14-24 points" like it's something the defense has done consistently all year.  If they were... we wouldn't be 7-6.

So...one win against a team on a downswing and the Giants are suddenly on an upswing?

Buuuut the Eagles beat that same team, and anohter inferrior team...and have a lot less injuries then the Giants...The Giants continue to implode....Tiki has a broken bone in his ball carrying hand....but the Giants are "vastly better" then the Eagles right now.

I don't see it. Sorry.

They've been doing it hte last two weeks...why should this week be any different?

Delhomme/Smith/MeShawn > Manning/Burress/Tyree

The Giants, like the panthers, are dealing with a lot of injuries to thier already terrible offensive line....and the defensive line isn't too healthy either. They've dropped 4 out of thieir last 5.

This is the same team that was, what, 6-2 a little while ago? They're now 7-6.....Sorry if I'm not exactly scared to death of the Giants right now.

I don't think anyone here is scared of the Giants.  The Giants don't scare me one bit.  The Eagles scare me every single week when they step on the field because I have absolutely no clue what so ever about the kind of performance or effort I'm going to see.

Coming in late, I know, but......let's not forget that Dallas easily drove the length of the field before that game sealing pick.  That was as much luck as anything.  Lito was standing where Bledsoe thought Clark was going to go, and not where Clark went.
Anyone but Reid.

Rome

It's gonna take a mistake-free football game on offense from the Eagles for them to win the game.  I'm not saying the Giants are great.  Far from it.  They're a mediocre bunch with a bitch ass sissy for a quarterback but they do have weapons (Tiki scares the shtein out me) and if the Eagles defense doesn't pressure on the sissy, it could be a long afternoon.

I don't know why but I'm going positive this week:

I just hope that somehow the Eagles win.  Neither of these teams deserves too much credit for anything good that's happened to them.  I'm hoping Philly is luckier than New York, basically.
