Bush may have indeed laid the ground work but the 'real' info starting with the courier started on Obama's watch and it was his decision and his decision alone as to whether or not they should drop Seals into the compound and put a bullet in his head. I can't overemphasize how big of balls it takes to approve a military operation of this magnitude.

i still think the pic from the situation room is one of the coolest pieces to emerge from this so far..that one and the one of the fdny sitting atop ladder 4 when the news streamed above them will both go down as iconic shots just like when the fdny raised the flag above ground zero a la iwo jima.

Amen, Bush didn't give a rats ass about this guy after he started both wars. He was an after thought to that tool.

I read the other day what the code name was for bin Laden and knew there would be some sort of backlash for it.  And there should be.  Geronimo was famous for fighting back against the new American infidel land stealers/Injun killers and he led many "revenge attacks" against the US.  Using his name for bin Laden is pretty irresponsible imo because the 2 were nothing alike.  Geronimo was fighting for his people and their land that was being threatened by the US and Mexico.  He wasn't an aggressor, but a defender.  They could have used a million different code names for him and they chose one of the worst possible options.  Might as well just called him MLK or Malcom X.

Hm, I wonder why you're thinking about it from that angle.

as far as dumb military names for targets/operations go...nothing beats calling the '98 bombing of Iraq "Operation Desert Fox"

how the original Desert Fox was forgotten by the people in charge, I cannot fathom.  they are students of war, aren't they?

Or if one or more of the Seals had been killed, which was a very good possibility considering the circumstances. I can't even imagine the knot in his stomach once that helo went down.

General_Failure

See, I can't imagine that this is the first time they've gone after him. Second or third time, sure. Maybe not close enough to put a bullet in his head, but I don't see him hanging out with Waldo and Carmen San Diego all those years without someone getting tipped off.

The man. The myth. The legend.

he cant have that much of a knot...lots of people have died from his escalation of the war in afghanistan...did he have a knot when he sent 30,000 more troops over there

that said the political bravery of ordering this attack was enormous....if it goes bad it basically costs him the presidency
