Phanatic brought up an excellent point.  For those of you that have been arguing against, what is wrong with a World Religion class being taught in public schools?  (Honest question)

My opinion on why it should be taught is a) so much of the world's history is based on religion, and b) understanding different aspects of people's philosophies is important for a well rounded education.

What's wrong with your kids (or kids to be) learning all that?

because religion = church and public schools = state

what dont you get its in the constitution

you wanna take religion go to a private school sunday school church your living room
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Missing the point. Your not teaching religion in schools. Just letting folks know what the different ones are and what they're about. Probably good as part of a larger class about diversity. Also I think it already exists as part of social studies so the point is moot.

why should it be taught if its completely false and baseless?

This is a ludicrous point of view. A significant portion of the world's population believes in the mystic 'facts' of one religion or another. In fact there are way more people who believe in a God than those who don't. I think educating students about religionS, not teaching them a specific religion, is an incredibly important and responsible thing to do. Lack of understanding about religion leads to people like Dio who have no tolerance for the religious, or worse, people who think that Jews have hooves and all Muslims are terrorists.

The clown with the 3 Doors Down T-shirt needs to go.
Munson was there?

Ew. Not. A. Fan.

But Joe does talk about Claymont/North Wilmington...REPRESENT.
Haha I can't imagine Biden actually lived in Claymont at one point. Not exactly the nice part of North Wilm.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Got bad news, igy:

Our school teaches the major world religions as part of the 6th grade curriculum (World Cultures).  Christianity - Judaism - Islam - Hinduism and Buddhism.

And it's perfectly constitutional.  What wouldn't be would be the establishing of one over the others.

Its actually not.  There is no such thing as "Separation of Church and State" written in the Constitution or Bill of Rights anywhere.

Amendent I states as follows:
Quote
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; ...

Teaching religionS in schools should be mandatory, as someone else stated most people have some belief system involving a deity.  Making a child pray, or requiring them to subscribe to a particular religion is (and should remain) illegal.

The Founders never intended this Amendment to mean religion should be restricted from public places, just that government could not tell you which religion you could belong to.
I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

QuoteMoreover, taterskins fan, I've used one

If you were truly a "scientist" then I doubt you would stoop to backing your argument by bringing up NFL teams. I understand Newton used to be a Dolphins fan.

Quotebut we (scientists) have never visualized an atom before.

What a maroon.....and I'm not even a "scientist".....

Atoms....

Electron....

Pwned.

Christ, the school districts in DC really are an embarrassment.

Both of those pictures are GENERATED IMAGES.  Based on indirect measurements, a three dimensional image was generated of organized gold atoms.  BRAVO!

The electrons moving are also indirect images, generated by detecting energy transfer.

I have to go no farther than wikipedia to prove my point, but I'm guessing you DTC knuckleheads are too clueless to understand even that level of explanation.

Atoms have been monitored indirectly, never truly visualized.  An electon microscope uses indirect measurements to generate an image, it's not a light microscope.  Electrons, theorized to be much, much smaller than atoms/protons, have a negligible mass, and will likely never be truly visible.  All that said, I still believe that quantum theory is correct, because it fits what we do know and can measure better than any other model.

And Owned has an "O" in it, dumbass.

Biden is gonna rip Palin a new icehole in the debates.

You're kidding, right?  Biden is a farging hothead.  Palin will be sent in there to bait him until he says something really stupid like, "You can't talk to me like that, you dumb farging beauty queen!".  Obama will probably have someone in there with a sniper rifle loaded with thorazine for when the inevitable happens.

If Biden can keep his cool, he should talk circles around her.  I just don't see that happening.
Anyone but Reid.

QuoteAtoms have been monitored indirectly, never truly visualized.

I must have missed the scientific qualifier that says objects don't exist unless they're seen directly by the naked eye.  Retarded. I guess all those millions of galaxies out there don't exist either - They could be scratches on the hubble's lens or something. Or Pluto even. Pluto hasn't been proven to exist because it hasn't been seen directly - Never truly visualized. Pretty farging sad.

You've now been Pwned AND Owned.

These arguments are fascinating.

Awesome.....

"Everywhere I go we've been talking about change, that's been the theme of this campaign," Obama told supporters in a show barn in Indiana. "And we must be on to something, because I notice now everyone's talking about change now."

"Suddenly [McCain's] the change agent!" Obama laughed. "He says, "I'm going to tell those lobbyists that their days of running Washington are over." Who's he going to tell? Is he going to tell his campaign chairman who's one of the biggest corporate lobbyists in Washington? Is he going to tell his campaign manager who was one of the biggest corporate lobbyists in Washington? Is he going to tell all the folks who are running his campaign who are the biggest corporate lobbyists in Washington?"

"Who is it that he's going to tell that change is coming?" he added, "I mean come on, they must think you're stupid!"

"She is a skillful politician," said Obama, "but when you've been taking all these earmarks when it is convenient and then suddenly you're the champion anti-earmark person, that is not change, come on. I mean, words mean something. You can't just make stuff up. You can't just make stuff up."

so when its religion it matters what the founders intended but when its guns it doesnt?

either way religion aint ever coming into public schools so im not really worried about it but youre wrong...how you gonna teach religion to someone who wants their kids to be atheist...thats why religion is readily available in universities but not at younger ages where kids can more easily be influenced...religion is a private matter amongst those who choose to partake and partake in their choice of religion...its not something the state should be teaching to other peoples young children
