texas isnt happening in 2020. the demos are changing but the hispanics dont vote like old white people do. they dont vote like jesus freaks do. texas still has tons of those. if the vote levels were equal it would be game on but theyre not so its game 2028 or something.

They won't be voting at all from their cages at the current rate.

and the ones that aren't in cages are too scared to leave the house...especially on Election Day...watch how much fake news and Russian hungry hungry hippos come out around the election saying how Hispanics are going to be rounded up at polling places
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

Trump certainly can win a second term if the Democratic Party doesn't get its act together.

i know youre on the good side but i feel like this talking points sentiment has no bearing on reality. what would you like the party to do? they took back the house in 2018. they have an insanely diverse electorate. republicans by and large are white and either jesus freaks or racists. trump hits both so hes god to them. dems are black, brown, progressive, religious, poor, female, educated and on and on. lotta different demos with a lot of different needs and wants. not every candidate is going to be for everybody.

suck it farg up and go to work for the person who isnt a mouth breathing rapist.

I agree with you.  I'd happily vote for any of the D's against Trump.  Hell, I'd vote for Igy over Trump.  But if you can't see a route where Trump wins 2020 in this nation, then we're just not looking at the same thing.  Republicans are just not going to vote against Trump.  The most people shout out against him, the more they love it.  If the D's can't get excitement behind them and get the turnout they need, Trump can and will win this thing.  They cannot just depend on anti-Trump sentiment.  It will not be enough.

My fellow U.S. History teacher at my school love debating politics.  He's left of you, actually proudly calls himself a socialist.  He could see no way that Clinton was losing the election in 2016.  I was looking at the trends and told him that Trump was going to win.  I could have won money from him so easily, he was willing to give me 2-1 odds that Clinton was winning.

Damn my Amishness.  I could have won money and taken some of the sting out of that election.

SD

Biden again polling way ahead of the other candidates. Thank god.

I'm constantly astounded at the level of continued shock over Trump's popularity.  People are mostly awful.  They're simpleminded, bigoted, greedy, willfully ignorant and couldn't give less of a shtein about others.  I ask you... is that not Trump in a nutshell?

im not saying trump cant win but educated suburban republican women came out in droves to give the dems back the house in the mid terms....many of these republicans will vote against trump

i think you mean trumps base will never change and thats true...its a cult...but and i cant put a number on how many  republican obama/trump voters and moderate republicans will vote against trump

its still an astoundingly awful number but trumps true base is probably like 25 million people and terms of the whole country its that not many...in other words hes not popular hes just way more popular than he should be...ive met people who have voted for trump and ive met people who will vote for him again but i literally have never met a single person who likes/loves him....aka a trumper...now granted i live in a liberal bastion but sill we have a republican governor....if trump was that popular i would have come across at least one maniac

Dems don't even need to flip many Republican voters...they just need to slightly increase/maintain turnout in a few certain states while some 2016 Trump voters decide not to vote, which even if he wasn't historically disliked would probably still happen, a lot of presidents see some attrition in their vote total in the re-election campaign.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

i know you guys lean pretty far left on here...but imo this is an election where a meh candidate like biden might be what's best just to get trump the hell out of the white house.  he might not be exactly what folks are looking for...but he's not trump.  and he doesn't seem like someone voters will rally against like they did with hillary in 2016.  she was hated with a passion & voters turned out just to vote against her.
anyway, i'll vote for whoever the hell wins the dem nomination.  trump is a goddamn nightmare.

Biden's been campaigning as a corporate bootlicker, which is definitely a turnoff for some people.

The man. The myth. The legend.

MDS

the 3 most important bases for the dem vote are black, young and suburban women.

the biggest voter base they need to at least pick at is uneducated white people.

theres only one eligible american human who hits all 4 of those quadrants. shes not running. her name is michelle obama. so no matter what its going to be a give and take between appealing to cletus, karen from chesco, some gen zer who barely remembers obama's first term and black dudes in milwaukee.

buckle. the. farg. up.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

PhillyPhreak54

The uneducated rednecks will never vote opposite.

Trump could take away their welfare, light their trailers on fire and shtein on the hood of their confederate flag adorned pick up and they'd still vote for him.

MDS

theres plenty of obama/trump voters. a bunch of trump voters are so far removed from society and are not even functional people. but theres millions that can be persuaded or are just looking for someone that is not hillary clinton.

i think warren is probably the best candidate but best candidate rules dont apply in this one. kamala/pete hits on the most quadrants possible. kamala will bring in the black vote and resonate with the karens and the lindas. pete can go into lackawana county and talk rust belt, midwest christian army to them. the only question is do they motivate 22 year olds.

Warren/Castro would probably be a pretty awesome ticket. I'd say Warren/Harris but I don't know if the fragile masculinity of the voters can handle an all woman ticket. Maybe Harris/Booker if Booker can prove he can appeal to the black vote as good as Harris can. Someone in one of these debates is going to have to go after Harris' record as Cali's AG/San fran DA to make that happen though.

Pete would also be a great VP candidate for a POC or woman like Todd says.

Honestly, Biden would be a great VP again but I doubt his ego lets him settle for the job again.

A woman won't beat Trump.  Neither will a male minority.  Biden will wipe the floor with him, though.
