Intrade: Palin to withdraw from the ticket?

Intrade state of the race:

An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

No one is perfect and everyone has problems. There are plenty of reasons to attack Palin and I think folks attacking her for a family problem help McCain's cause a bit. He can say look at the leftist liberal meanies who attacked her daughter. I respect her statement on the matter.

Quote"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."

Now if you want to focus on why she's a weak candidate there are plenty of other things.

Aerial Wolf hunting? Hey I'm all for hunting. If wolves are overpopulated and there's a need to incorporate a hunting season for that go right ahead. Set quotas like every other hunted species. Getting in an aircraft and sniping them like some kind of military operation is outrageous. It's worse then spotlighting (which is illegal in most states).  If you have to hunt wolves get down there in a tree stand and pick them off like every other animal. For farg sake. Where's the sport in that.

You mean like these:
QuoteAmong other less attention-grabbing news of the day: it was learned that Ms. Palin now has a private lawyer in a legislative ethics investigation in Alaska into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state's public safety commissioner; that she was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party, which has at times sought a vote on whether the state should secede; and that Mr. Palin was arrested 22 years ago on a drunken-driving charge.

No one is attacking her personal life.

For me this isn't about Bristol Palin's pregnancy - I agree with Obama that family & kids are off limits. But there is a bit of irony that a woman who does NOT support sex education in schools and does NOT support making birth control available to minors and ONLY supports abstinence education has a child who gets pregnant before she turns 17. I think it's pretty clear that abstinence-only as a (non-)policy is totally and completely ineffective. Period.

And now, as our potential Vice-President, she is about to get on the campaign trail and tell us about family values while she neglects her obviously very needy family life.

Abuse of power is not new - She fired people for "not supporting her" when she was mayor.

Part of political "experience" is that this kind of crap becomes old news over time, and no one cares.  Obama suffered through this scrutiny - some valid, some not so - back during the primary.  Now Wright and flag pins are in the past.  Nobody is really interested any more.

Palin's entire political career (however short) is going to get some intense scrutiny for the first time on the national stage.  The question is, will it all "get old" with only 60 days until the election?

It kind of focuses on the wrong things for McCain. Or maybe it detracts from talking about the issues for a while and that's what they (GOP) want. Not sure. I do think McCain's VP choice is much weaker then Obama's and I think this gives Obama some ground in strategical terms.

The GOP convention started didn't it? The old white dude party isn't generating a lot of excitment unless you count arresting protesters...

Forget Palin.  Forget McCain being 72.  Forget the wildly unpopular Republican in the White House.  And forget the fact that Obama was probably going to win anyway.

The Republican convention getting preempted and scaled back due to the hurricanes on the Gulf Coast is really the nail in the coffin for any chance of being competitive in this race in November.

Obama will likely lead by no less than 3-4 points for the rest of the race.  Watch.

Sadly, I think you're dead-on correct.

I would agree with the 3-4 point margin without the VP disaster.  Now I think it will be a 5-8 point margin.

the whole Repub. Convention being scaled back because of Gustav is a hilarious and sad attempt

I just read that Bush is going to speak at the convention tomorrow. That's the hammer driving the nail into the coffin right there. the GOP is a wreck right now. Complete shambles organizationally. They'll lose seats in the house and senate and the presidency. It will be interesting to see what emerges after they are almost completely irrelevant in a few years.

Let's not go crazy here. Does anyone remember how idiotic the Democratic party has been? They lost tons of seats while a popular Democratic president was sitting in the 90s. They lost twice to the least prepared, least capable and ultimately least popular president ever.

When the Democrats start farging things up, the unoriginal fargs who populate this country will think that the Republicans are the only other option. The two party system is broken, and until it is scrapped 'the other party' will always be the one that represents the savior in a bad political situation.

EDIT: I got rid of the capitalization to de-PG-ify this post.
