you shouldnt be able to illegally tap ANY calls....is it that difficult to go to court and get an order?

illegal govt acts lead to more illegal govt acts...that can of worms should never be opened

get an order? Are you serious dude?

when you have an attack like that (9/11) and the US is harboring those individuals, rules need to be change and tap the calls...unless you enjoy human disasters

you people crack me up--stop pretending like you care so much, that it pertains to you what-so-ever (realistically now) and you're leading the DC rally this weekend.

reese, you've reached an all time low.  The Constitution and Bill of Rights aren't perfect and our laws are set up to protect individual rights even when that individual is accused of criminal acts.  But the only way to preserve the "every man is created equal" mentality is to treat everyone equally.  If the gov't has reason to suspect someone of being a terrorist, fine.  Get a warrant and tap their phone, computer, credit cards, whatever.  But without that warrant, it is illegal and a violation of civil liberties.  Simpletons like you just don't farging get it.  You believe the whole "if we don't do this the terrorists will win!" cries coming from certain people in Washington.  But what you fail to realize is that when the American people allow the gov't to start stripping away our rights and freedoms one by one and slowly start destoying the Constitution, that is when the terrorists will win.  No organized army or terrorist group can physically destroy America.  It can't be done.

We will never be overrun by another nation.  And terrorists, if you look at the big picture, are not a threat to the American way of life.  Terrorists don't pose a threat to America as a whole.  They only pose a threat to Americans.  They hyjack a plane or blow up a building once every 10 years.  I'm not making light of terrorist actions but when you take a step back and look at it, a terrorist act has about the same impact as a major natural distaster....probably a larger death toll, but not as much cost to clean up.  So if you think terrorists can actually take down the US, then I suppose you think a hurricane or earthquake could too?

The only way this country doesn't survive is because it erodes from within.  And that is exactly what will happen when people like George Bush get their way.

ice grillin you

I'm just glad the post made it.  Literally as soon as I hit the submit post button all of the power went out in my building for a split second and then came back on.  But it was just long enough to force an automatic reboot of my computer.

If CNN broke a major story today that US officials captured the new leader of an Al Queda terrorist group threatening to attack the US on Labor Day--through wiretapping and computer leads, you would throw your bag of Fritos up in the air, stand up off your couch and scream, "wait...did they have a warrant!?" Haha..you're the simpleton joke my friend

Like I said before, non of this wiretapping pertains to any of us, so to write a Charlottes Web novel on how you're all about civil rights, and we are being robbed of our freedoom bullshtein is pretending chief...so please save the antics.

I don't think Charlotte's Web was about civil liberties.  I think it was about the goodness that is capitalism, and that pigs taste good.

clearly you put the hypothetical one in a million chance that an illegal wiretap will stop a terrorist attack over the constitution...which puts you right in the dick cheney camp for the reduction of civil liberties...anyway we get it...you arent going to change anyones mind
