The mess is not their fault, it's their fault they were in a position to do something before it got this ugly but chose not to.

ice grillin you

tho there is a difference btwn "not their fault" and "they deserve much of or most of the blame"

So, pretty soon it will be Obama's fault for doing the wrong things if the upswing doesn't go high enough or last long enough?  Or is he automatically absolved due to Reagan greed and "the mistakes of the last 8 years?"

ice grillin you

he can definitely be blamed for not fixing it if after 8 years nothing has improved

So, again, he blindly gets the blame if things are worse and the credit if things are better?

It's good to know we've learned so much about the executive branch's influence on the economy.

He already owns this crisis.  If you can't fix a problem by spending 1.2 TRILLION dollars on it then you deserve to be voted out in 4 years.  The jury is still out as to whether or not Obanomics will work or not, but we'll know in about 18 months.

In 18 months, we'll know if he's temporarily staved off a complete collapse of the economic system, yes.

yeah lol at knowing anything in 18 months....took years and years to get into this we arent getting out in 18 months and if we do then barry really is the messiah

General_Failure

Wether or not anyone deserves to be voted out of office is irrelevant if the opposition can't put someone out there with the potential to be better, or more charismatic.

The man. The myth. The legend.

PoopyfaceMcGee

The problem is that the opposition is Republicans in this case.  The "get the farging budget under control and limit the power of government to reasonable levels" party is dead in the water.  We'll probably see Ron Paul run again, FWIW.

We could have been out of this in 18 months or less if the bailout hadn't been forced through by political greed and preying on the fears of the people.

Japan has been in a recession for almost 15 years because they did the same things we are doing now.  When you have bad debt in the system it needs to be purged; not given a crutch.  By not allowing the bad debt to be washed away and allow the system to self correct, we will have an endless period of government supported bad debt, paid for with tax dollars that don't exist.

Brilliant.

But a lucid and coherent assclown. He's literally one of only two or three conservative columnists I've found who communicates without THE USE OF EXCLAMATION POINTS AND ALL CAPS!!

Seriously, every conservative column I read looks like it was written by an angry 20 year old. They're all puns and snide comments and loud language. Brooks is one of the only ones who actually communicates his thoughts like an adult.

In shocking news, Chuck Schumer is trying to ride the groundswell against the AIG bonuses for all it's worth politically.

Also, Joel is smarter than me.
