Back in February I was diagnosed with a torn ATF ligament in my ankle. Surgery was recommended and I was told to schedule it whenever I felt like it as further damage was unlikely and I only had to deal with the pain tolerance.

After three months of doing 6 days a week (with three of those being a boot camp type class at 24hr Fitness, very high impact) of exercise the pain is starting to become too much. I've been able to deal with it and its now affecting my workouts. I hate to quit and have a setback of 4-6 weeks but I think I am going to try to make it until the beginning of August to have it repaired. That would give me another six weeks before I have to shut it down.

fargin sucks.

So I had the surgery a week ago. My workouts up to the surgery were awful as I could barely do anything. The damage to my ankle was more significant that originally thought. In addition to the shredded ligament I had a piece of bone chip off and tendon damage. I am in a walking boot now and it still hurts like farg.

I have to get back to doing something as I feel like I have gained weight and lost definition.

But what can I do to get in a good workout without my legs? Just upper body lifting every day?

I recommend at least 3 hours of Words With Friends and 2 hours of furious masturbation for maximum results.

lol

I wish I could ride the bike so I could play WWF and exercise at the same time

Phreak, do you have access to a pool?  There are tons of exercises you can do in the pool.  Even swimming laps without kicking and just using your upper body to stay afloat and move up & down the length of the pool is an incredible workout.

If getting around the gym isn't to much of a strain on your ankle, light dumbells.  Flat bench, incline, decline, seated curls, tri extensions, lat pulldowns, etc.  Tons of reps.

I had hernia surgery several years ago and couldn't exercise for 3 weeks.  I went nuts.  It was like an epiphany when the doc gave me the green light to walk and swim.

Yeah I can use the pool at my apartment complex...thats a good idea, Don. I think I will do that.

I can move around enough to do upper body and I will begin that on Monday. I feel awful and have to get back to exercising.

PhillyPhreak54

This weekend I will start the pool workouts and going harder on the upper body.

I am afraid to get on the scale. I dont want to see the 8-10 that I gained over the last month or so.

I got my stitches out today and it still hurts like hell.

I'm legitimately concerned that I damaged my rectum lifting this week.

At the end of February I cut back my calories to about 1900 per day and 3 weeks ago I started doing Rushfit which is a high impact aerobic program like p90X.  It's kicking my ass but I'm starting to see results.

No one cares.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Ah, yes we do care.  Put on 10 lbs the past year and it sucks so looking for a way to shed that excess skin.  Worried about the hard core/high impact aerobic workouts after hip replacement.  My problem isn't the workouts, it's the caveman mentality at every meal.  Hoping once I get on the board regularly it should help burn some of the extra pounds.

Are you flirting with me?

I don't flirt with ho's.

Also, I had worked my ass off last year to get myself back into "Marine Corps shape" only to have that work get blown to hell when they told me in Oct that I was getting out.  So naturally, I didn't spend the last 6 months worrying about it.  Spent the last week and a half hitting it hard though.  Working out 6 days a week.  Day 1 was a struggle just to complete 1.5 miles.  Couldn't even run it without taking a couple of walking breaks.  Today I knocked out 2.5 miles before having to finally slow down to a walk thanks to a calf cramp.  Stretched it out for about a minute and then finished the last half mile fairly strong.

Haven't seen much in the weight loss department though.  I've temporarily eliminated all meat from my diet except grilled chicken breast and the occasional can of tuna. I'm eating about 3-4lbs of fruit and veggies a day along with egg whites and a bagel in the morning to get some carbs before my workouts.  Now I'm shteining at least 3x a day.  I dropped 3.5lbs over the first 3 days and then went up a pound, down a pound and then down 3 more pounds but this morning I got on the scale and was back to within a pound of my starting weight.  So basically I lost 1 pound in 10 days.  That kind of sucks.  Might have to start replacing the croutons on my salad with ex-lax.
