Damn, these past few weeks have made me very happy with the trading of old, sucky, contracts for prospects.  Then I see they got Marty Biron, that just made my day.

:yay

jeeze, 29 NHL trades in past 4 days...and counting.   plus waiver aquisitions.

I would also like to add that the thing I am most excited about is the fact that Biron will have a new Flyers goalie mask.  I hope it is as cool as Vanbiesbrouck's.

Quote"It's an opportunity for me to move forward," Biron said in a telephone interview with TSN of Canada. "They are excited for me to come in and I'm excited to be part of the organization. We've battled so much over the years. ... I pretty much know Philadelphia's history in the playoffs and all that. It's part of my history now."

Conklin was an inexpensive pickup as he is earning $525,000 this season.

Acquiring Biron gives the NHL-worst Flyers three goalies. The Flyers also claimed forward Denis Hamel off waivers from Atlanta.

Starting goalie Antero Niittymaki has nine wins in 47 games, while Robert Esche -- once considered the future in goal after a stellar postseason three years ago -- has played in only 18 games. Esche can be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

"This is an opportunity for us to acquire a goaltender that we really like," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. Noting that Biron would have been on the team's shopping list this summer, Holmgren added: "Trading for him gives us a chance to get a little more familiar with him and he can get a little more familiar with our team."

He's fine!  So is Esche!  GO PHLY!

Flyers making a heck of a comeback. The Islanders were kicking their collective asses, both on the scoreboard (5-2) and in the fights, but the Flyers have come back to tie the game at five.

Coburn looks damn good so far
Yeah he does, he's much faster than I thought he'd be....

Isles win it in OT. Great comeback though. Nitty's save late in regulation was sick.

The referee actually called a penalty on the Flyers with a minute to go in overtime.

The funny thing is I was actually rooting for them to lose at that point.  Getting a point is one thing.  Getting two is another.  No need for that now.

It doesnt matter at this point Romey, the first overall is really no different than the 2nd overall.  Coburn can really fricking skate for a guy who's Rathje's size.  I said it before but his game is similar to rathje except faster.  Kukkonen looked really good considering he hadnt even practiced with the team yet.

Kukkonen will be fine, albeit usually never spectacular.  He just gets the job done well usually.

Coburn I think does remind me of a more talented Rathje, but also sort of like Bouwmeester in Florida.  If he can develop an offensive game...  :yay

Flyers could win (almost) every game for the rest of the year and still be last in NHL.  Sixers on the otherhand need to lose every night to get to last place.
