I would think hope that the Flyers got some sort of commitment from Biron before giving up a #1.

SunMo

sounds like a conditional 1st (nashville's) IF he re-signs with the team

Supposedly its straight up for the flyers 2nd.

So they get Biron for 2 months and give up a draft pick? farg that.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

So it's #31 instead of #28/#29.  Not too much of a difference...

Quote11:18 - Martin Biron is now on the phone with Duthie. Biron says he was just getting ready for Sabres practice this morning when Regier told him he was going to Philly. Biron says he just had a "good conversation" with Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. Says he's "very excited" to be going to Philadelphia. He says he has "no idea" who or what he was traded for. Biron is VERY diplomatic when asked about how he felt about playing behind Ryan Miller the past 2 years. He says he "wasn't thinking about the trade deadline this past week he was just thinking about surviving the fight with Ray Emery" I like Marty Biron. Biron also says he would be willing to talk to the Flyers right now about a contract.

SunMo

the plan is to sign him long-term...they wouldn't have made the move unless they had some indication from Biron that he would sign long-term

he was on the phone with TSN and told them he's excited to be a part of the future and will talk about a new contract anytime

It doesn't take much to upgrade the goaltending.  Biron's fine.

Can't they raid Buffalo of at least one or two other players this off-season?

SunMo

i think they were going to go after Drury, but now his head is mashed potatoes, so who knows

biron is a whole lot better than fine...now hes not gonna do it on the flyers cause they wont be good enough...but hes a guy that can win a cup

So they get Biron for 2 months and give up a draft pick? farg that

again unless you have a top 5 pick and its a strong draft year at the top nhl picks are basically worthless...you almost always trade a draft pick for a proven player if given the chance

and theres no possible way they dont resign him...if they end up not doing so that would be the proper time to bash them

Ig,

For a team like the Flyers that are beginning a re-building project, draft picks are more than poo.

Biron's a good goalie, but he'll do nothing for this team for at least the next two years.  Then he turns 31-32 when the Flyers are ready to think about contending again...

... IF they re-sign him.

SunMo

the Flyers are gearing up for being a playoff team NEXT YEAR.

they will have uber cap space to sign free agents and the young players will be another year older and better.

i really like this trade.

not true...hes a legit #1 goalie...and even if they arent good enough to win a cup with him he at least gives the team and specifically the young defenseman the confidence to go out and play and not make mistakes because they know who is back there...he also isnt going to lose those 3-2 games late with a bad goal....the kinds of losses that have demoralized the flyers this year...the kinds of losses that kill confidence in young players

by your reasoning they shouldnt get any goalie until the skaters on the team are cup ready...it doesnt work that way...you gotta win and develop before you can take the big step of making a cup run...and a #1 goalie is essential to that

and also while i dont agree it will happen sun mo makes a good point in that the front office believes they are gonna make moves in the playoffs next year...and if that is their goal then you absolutely cant have esche or nitty cent in goal
