After reading the NE papers today it appears that Branch wants Reggie Wayne money.

6 years $40M with a $13.5M signing bonus.

QuoteEagles Notes | Branch could fill need for receiver
So the obvious question in these parts: Are the Eagles interested?

The answer is maybe.

A league source said yesterday that the Eagles' interest in Branch is about the same as it was in Ashley Lelie, the wide receiver who was sent from Denver to Atlanta in a three-team trade earlier this week.

And the FO did such a stellar job in trying to get Lelie, didn't they.

Not gonna happen.

i hady me some baja Fresh for lunch today. Few hours later I braided some fecal rope, and the larger plop looked just like a scalled down verson of G Lew... with some munched up beans on his face. I wriggled off a wee dinkle, and as it landed in such a way that it looked like Poo Lew was stretching out to make the grab.

G Lew had a good night tonigt.

So?  He could get something close to that.  Why not?

Absolutely.  I'd give him something right in that area.  Like I said before, it's not like the Eagles are in a position not to "overpay" for a receiver at this point.

and who else would they get if they didn't overpay? It always seems like the Eagles are waiting for this perfect receiver to fall in their lap at the perfect price. News flash: Steve Smith and Chad Johnson aren't available for 3rd round picks. The free agent crop next offseason isn't that impressive either. In fact, if I remember correctly, Branch was the best guy available in that crop. So you might as well get him now. Eventually you are going to have to overpay a little bit for a player.

I just don't get this obsession with getting every player at the perfect price. Jeffrey Lurie said it in his press conference with Darren Howard and it pissed me off then, and still does now. "If you can't get the right player at the right price...." Just shut up Lurie, please. Open your pockets.

No, you made it worse. My point was that you can't get great receivers on the cheap. It seems like the Eagles are waiting for some pro bowler receiver to fall in their lap for a 3rd or 4th round pick. Because every single receiver that becomes available, they will never break the bank for one, because they have one or two minor flaws.

If you want to upgrade your receivers, sometimes you are going to have to offer a little more to the Branches and the Lelies of the world than they are worth.

If the Eagles overpay for Branch after deciding not to give TO more money I admit, I'll be a little pissed because while Branch is a good, solid reciever, he's no TO.  Not even close.  Don't get me wrong, TO showed his true colors last year and I'm glad he's gone.  But at the sime time, much of that fiasco could have been resolved early had the Eagles given him more money, which at the time, I felt he deserved.

But having said all that, I would love to see Branch in an Eagles uniform.  Even though he's not on the same level as TO, Smith or Johnson, he's still a solid player and didn't have big name recievers around him to attract the focus of opposing defenses (ala Peerless Price).
