Like you've seen Gaffney play enough to judge what type of receiver he is. You don't know shtein about Gaffney other than his name isn't as big as the other names out there. At least watch him play here before making that call.

Givens wouldn't even BE a "bigger name" if he hadn't been a part of the WR corps for the Patriots.

Sounds like the # 84 is a perfect fit for him.

I agree with that. If you put Gaffney on the Pats and Givens on the Texans, it's Gaffney who is commanding that big deal and not Givens. Gaffney has more talent that Givens. Just isn't as accomplished.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

so then how do you explain nfl PP guys throwing wads of money at givens...and gaffney having to beg for a one year deal...have they not seen either of them play either

ive seen and read plenty about gaffney...hes a #3 wr who was aksed to be a #2 in houston...a role that really is above him...hes a solid route runner and can be a quality possesion type guy...hopefully he fills that role for the eagles
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

That was the nice way for him to say, "our offensive line blew ass nuggets and there was no way for the QB to ever get me the ball from the prone position"

Please.

Barber opted for a 1 year deal twice.

And so what if Gaffney wasn't wanted back in HOU? What if he just didn't want to go back there? And you can say that about almost any FA out there.

Why didn't SF make an effort to get Peterson back?
Why didn't Pittsburgh make an effort to get Randle El back?

But hey...Gaffney sucks because he signed a one year deal and he won't do shtein because the Eagles suck because they signed no one.

Peterson and Randle El signed ridiculous deals, Pittsburgh was on record as saying they wanted Randle El back, and I'm sure the Niners would have taken Peterson back if they didn't have more pressing needs and his asking price wasn't so high. The two situations are unrlelated IMO.

My point was that you can make a case for every FA leaving their team. Why didn't they want _____ back?

Why did Denver let Mike Anderson go and place thier hopes in Ron Dayne?
Why did Carolina let Witherspoon go?

It can go on and on, SD.

The thing is that Gaffney is here. He's better than McMullen, Lewis and maybe even Pinkston. If he steps it up he'll get his deal and we'll have a Brown & Gaffney duo. But if he bombs out we move on and there is no long term deal to worry about.

I think it's only fair to assume that Gaffney will go for 1450 yards and 10-11 TD's until proven otherwise.

The scouting reports don't prove shtein. I'm just asking you, not them, to hold your judgement on the guy until you've seen him play HERE. You will see him 16+ games which is enough to make the call. If he comes here and plays terrible, then you feel free to trash him, but at least wait until you see him first hand to do it.

Givens got the big bucks because he is a solid possession guy who played on a Superbowl winning team. Also for a market this year with no real great WRs, he was the biggest name out there. Only a handful of teams wanted Givens anyway. It wasn't like the whole NFL was busting down the door to sign this guy. The Texans didn't think he was worth the contract he wanted, and a couple other teams agreed including Miami and Cleveland.

Which is what he basically told Spads. he said he'd be in the first few steps on his route and hear the crowd boo or cheer depending on if they were home or away because Carr was getting sacked.

It boils down to this. I wanted Givens. I wanted a WR upgrade period.

Gaffney is an upgrade from my boy Billy Mac and Lewis.

hes not gonna step it up...he doesnt have the physical tools to be able to elevate his game to some unheard of level that hes been unable to find thus far in his four year career...hes not that fast doesnt have great size and isnt overly strong

he is not a long term solution at the #2 wr spot

hes freddie mitchell without the side show...which isnt a bad thing by any means...but wr's like them are a dime a dozen...that said i think they could do a lot worse than having gaffney as their #3 guy down the road...provided they have a legit #1 or (2) twos
