hey, i hope brown develops into the next mike quick...i just don't like going into seasons with a question mark at such an important position on a pass first team.
but andy said they'll run more this year so they should be okay.

Why wouldn't Brown qualify as a go-to receiver in your estimation?

why would he?  he's never been one on the nfl level.  the guy has what, 9 nfl starts under his belt.
if you're a team with super bowl aspirations (the eagles still are, right?), you don't go into the season hoping your 2nd year guy can be the go-to guy...you make sure you have a go-to guy on the roster.
the one year #5 had a stud wr, he put up by far the best season of his career...he obviously benefits from having a go-to wr.

Reggie did most of his stuff without McNabb as the QB. If he can put up numbers with that offense and QBs they had out there last year, what can he do with a good QB? WHat can he do when he's not a rookie anymore?

And Chad Johnson, a 2nd round pick like Reggie certainly didn't have any trouble in his 2nd year.

And why can't he produce like another 2nd rounder named Anquan Boldin?

There are a few guys who have produced as the go to guy as 2nd year guys.

Brown
Givens
Pinkston
Draft pick
Lewis

That would be a decent corps. And look at Givens' old team. Who have the Pats used as the go to guy? They have spread it around between Givens, Branch and a bunch of others.

Givens would be a very good signing.

brown had a couple nice games....he's not chad johnson or anquan boldin yet...not even close.
putting up decent numbers in a couple meaningless games isn't enough to convince me he's a #1 on a team with super bowl aspirations.
the pats are the exception, not the rule...they have a qb who excels at reading the field and finding the open receiver.

McNabb excels at not letting go of attacks on his skills in the media.  That has to count for something.

I'd take the Pats' receivers over ours right now.

ice grillin you

they dont need a clear cut number 1 wr...but they cant have greg lewis and todd pinkston (espcially post achilles rip pinky) in their top three...overall the position needs big time upgrading

id like to be hearing some witherspoon rumblings at this point...i love the bently talk and all but givens garcia ect...isnt doing it for me....what up with the linebackers...wonder if this means going in that direction at 14

I don't see any linebacker worth that pick, save for MAYBE Hawk if he falls that low.  MAYBE.

Yeah, if we're sitting at 14... I'd have to think we'd be going Davis or Bunkley (if they're there).  I'd almost guarantee it if they snag a DE in FA.  There doesn't seem to be a LB out there (outside of Hawk) that would warrant the pick at 14.

I agree but there are only 2-3 that are being considered 1st rounders... Hawk, Greenway and maybe Ryans.  Of those guys... Hawk is the only one guaranteed to be gone before 14.  I agree that there's plenty of depth... it's just in the later rounds.

Carpenter should be a 1st rounder, but isnt ever recognized as one.

shtein, any other LB other that Hawk (who will be long gone) is a mega-stretch at 14. I think they go with VD if he is there at 14, or improve one of the lines. I am really starting to come around on Chad Jackson/Holmes though if VD is gone though. There will be good backers in the second and third rounds. I, like IGY, would have liked to hear more rumors flying about Witherspoon or Bart Scott out of B-more. Hopefully they have an idea, and that idea doesn't involve Barber and/or McCoy.
