I'm sad to say that I'm impressed with his poise at the plate. The dude finds a way to get on base via walks....since his 0-25 start....he's been batting .380 approximately. If he can heat up...he can make plays with Izzy being a multi-hit game hitter and being on base or he can take the heat off of Kent and Bradley. So far so good.

How's that $55 million dollar man working out for you boys in Chavez Ravine?

As HB noted, quite well as of late.  He started out 0 for 25, but has batted around .380 since, along with 21 walks which would be tops on the Phillies ;).  He works the count, he walks, he gets on base right in front of Kent and Bradley.

It's only a matter of time before he strains his mangina and goes on the DL.

You could say the same thing about Kearse, Westy, Trotter, etc.
Past injuries don't guarantee future problems.

NB....it would be a nice problem for us to have if the #2 hitter could actually get on base. That would me JD that much more of a threat and sets up Kent nicely. Wishful thinking....if only we could land Todd Helton! :drool

Choi has been on fire, hitting around .400 for almost 2 weeks now.  Apparently one of his strong suits in the past was his ability to get on base, posting great on base % numbers before he came to the Dodgers.  Although he seems to be the opposite of a #2 guy, I guess he'll have to work for now.

I wish we could bring back Dave Roberts to lead off, then have Ceasar - Drew - Kent - Bradley - Choi.  We have no base stealing at all, and Dave is one of the best base stealers I've ever seen.  Obviously the problem with Dave is he doesn't walk enough and only hits around .270-.280.

One thing I don't like about Ceasar is the way he goes into second when attempting to steal a base.  If you watch him he slides in feet first, but is almost in a sitting motion with his upper body up real high and he leaves an easy target to tag.  And Bradley can steal a base now and then, but he'll get picked off at first and thrown out at second as many times as he does successfully steal a base.

I don't think our team has the power to not be stealing bases AT ALL.  Hopefully they'll find a way to be more aggressive/productive in that area.  Ceasar did just steal a base a couple games ago that led to a run.

Yeah, we have poor base running....we shouldn't be getting picked off at all....

I wonder who we have that is up and coming in the farm system....

I've had enough of non-hitting nokamura.....get him the farg out of there.

As I've said before, Antonio Perez is the man to watch.  He's young, can hit for decent power, steals bases and is coming back from an injury in the VERY near future.  Apparently they have been working on him to play 3rd and backup at short.

He will be the starter soon, whether he takes advantage of that or not is up to him.  But the kid has talent, and even if he struggled when he first started playing third, I would stick with him over any other player in the Dodgers org. right now at 3rd base.

hbionic

If this Perez kid can at least play defense and hit .280...I'll take it. Nokamura  and valentin are very unreliable.

Came right back and scored 9 to win yesterday, but now we have to face the Cardinals.   :paranoid

Today: Perez vs. Mulder, that is a disadvantage for the Dodgers considering the offense of both teams.
Tue: Erickson vs. Morris, disadvantage times 90
Wed:  Penny vs. Suppan advantage LA
Thurs: Lowe vs. Carpenter disadvantage for the Dodgers considering the offense of both teams

Being in St. Louis this could get ugly.  Odalis and Lowe have to step up big time, and just hope we get lucky with Erickson.  :paranoid

QuoteGagne update: Closer Eric Gagne pitched another perfect inning on Tuesday night in Memphis, his second rehab appearance for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Gagne struck out two and recorded a fly-ball out, making 14 pitches. In his appearance on Sunday, he struck out all three batters he faced.

He is expected to make a two-inning appearance on Thursday night, rejoining the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Friday upon which time he may be activated.

Also in rehab news from the game, infielder Antonio Perez hit a three-run home run, but Werth went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Man, when this team gets Gagne, Werth, and Perez back we will be so much deeper.  :yay

Brazoban is a mean mother farger! That guy could stare death in the eye and strike him out. Did you see him pitch 101 mph yesterday to Edmonds? That guy is sick! He has brass farging balls!

A trade idea from a Phillies beat writer today:

Placido Polanco and Ryan Howard to LA for Duaner Sanchez and Andy LaRoche
