G!  Not much man, staying busy at work. As far as video games only playing COD and Madden when I have time. How about you?

I'll shoot you a message on Facebook....not sure if your email is the same.

I know some people here were/are playing Dragon Age. The new gameplay videos of Dragon Age 2's battle system came out and it is totally different. They took away the slow paced strategic battle system and changed it to a hack and slash type system.

Calling it right on the $ since day one.

slow paced?  I would have slowed it down a bit myself, so I could issue orders to each character, etc.  as it is, i spend more than half the time I'm actually playing the game navigating menus.

Sounds like a rousing good time.

I would normally hit 2, 3, and maybe 4 if I was feeling fancy, and then wait around for those things to come off cooldown. My warrior was essentially indestructable, so I let the party go farg themselves. That video looks more like a Jade Empire style, which I completely approve of.

The man. The myth. The legend.

yeah, I'm playing on a console, so I don't have all that functionality

I played on the 360. The mage class was powerful, but at the same time the battles got boring. It got tiresome constantly going to a menu to select spells. The shortcut options were limited to not many spells, so you constantly had to go to the menu and the battles didn't flow well at all.

But the articles I read on DA2 said that they are focusing on making battles fast paced and smooth, but at the same time adding elements of strategy as well. That's one of the changes. The others were things like making the world more diverse and realistic, and having big decisions affect the world from chapter to chapter, rather than just end-game.

I like it. I'd rather have hack and slash over the hack and wait until you can hack again. Hack and slash is great as long as it's not a button masher. I hate button mashers.

I'm 75% through the campaign, almost to the Landsmeet. Killed two of the big Dragons, they're a bitch.

MMA by EA demo is out and the game is pretty damn fun and fairly easy to pick up. I might have to get this. They have a huge online features and you can create multiple fighters and take them online. Features just look really cool. Def worth trying the demo.

I'm on the other end.  Hack and slash IS button mashing, imo.

Button mashing to me is hack n slash where you find yourself hitting pause to give your fingers a break. Last game I played like that was Batman Arkhum Asylum. Worst hack n slash game I ever played was Lord Of The Rings Return of The King on the original XBOX.

Hack and slash: button mashing.
Button mashing:  really fast hack and slash

The controls for MMA were designed so you don't mash and smash, in training part of demo it says don't mash the buttons, you waste stamina by doing that and the key is managing the stamina. If you get low on it, your vulnerable to counters, submissions etc...The fact that its not that kind of game really makes it good. I played the UFC a few times and not knowing controls I was constantly smashing buttons and you either get lucky or get KO'd. This game you feel and see the control much better.

So many good games coming out in next month, Madden 11 has been on my list, now this game. Medal of Honor, Fable 3 and COD Black Ops are all games I'm anxious to play. If anyone is looking to get Madden I just saw a commercial for this deal. $50 bucks you get a year of SI, Madden 11 and a dumb DVD of making of Madden:
