TDK is far too dense to really fully understand in one viewing.

WTF?....whats to uderstand

i thought it was a great movie but like sun wasn blown away...as happens to a lot of movies that are 2.5 hrs or longer...it was about 15-20 minutes to long...the whole scene with batman stopping the swat teams from killing the hostage clowns was tedious ridiculous and should have been cut out

i thought the preaching and message sending got a little to overt at the end as well...the sonar bush/nsa spying analogy was trying to hard and the people who are percived as bad can be good and vice versa thing with the ferrys was a little corny...i also thought the sonar technology that bruce wayne came up with was to unrealistic and seemed like a short cut by nolan

agree with sun batmans voice is laughably overdone at times...throw bales awful lisp on top of it and it got annoying

a lot of that is nitpicking tho...imo it was the best movie of its kind ive ever seen...for two reasons...as reviews hit on it wasnt a typical comic book superhero movie...it was much more drama/suspense...the lack of cgi....nolan is a great movie maker and respects the art using as little cgi as possible...i only really noticed it once and that was when the helicopter crashed on the street

ledger was everything everyone said he would be...amazing....any of you fanboys know if the ending was edited after ledger died...like did the joker originally get away but they changed that knowing that theres no possible way anyone could follow up his performance...i also feel like the movie could have ended after he broke out of jail and rachel died...i think it would have played much better that away...and as sun said with two face living

I thought it got a little preachy at the end as well, especially Gordon's soliloquy.  I was referring more to the discussion of good v. evil and the two faces of it (Batman [+ morals] v. Joker [amoral]), and how very little difference there was.  There were beautiful subtleties which would involve spoilers so I won't do details just yet, but where the Joker and Batman did essentially the same thing, but to different degrees.  Those are the things I'd like to see again, without being bothered with not knowing what's going to happen.
Anyone but Reid.

ice grillin you

what did batman and joker do that were essentially the same...how is batman amoral at all

i get the part about bruce wayne not wanting to be batman but i dont get the part where batman is at all some sort oif bad guy or has done bad things...all he does is good things...

speaking of subtleties was the comment by morgan freeman about how the new suit will stop a cat a sneaky reference to catwoman in the next movie

usually movies double + 1/2 from friday to saturday. so if it took in 60 last night, itll take in like 150 tonight? oh dear.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Rome

The official number was just released.  TDK made $66.4M yesterday including the midnight showings.  That obliterated the old record of $59.4 set last year for Spiderman 3.

Jesus. . .

fanboys own hollywood right now...the amount of those kinds of movies coming out is insane and they ALL blow up at the box office

tdk will be in another stratophere tho because one its batman vs say some graphic novel no one has heard about and two its a great movie that has many elements not rooted in superherodom...plus its pg-13....it will pull in people from all sides

Went to the 9am showing today and farging loved it. Well, I loved the first 2 hours and 15 minutes. Basically, I agree with IGY and SunMo that I didn't leave the theater blown away, but I think that had more to do with too much Two Face set up than anything else.

Here are my thoughts WITH SPOILERS:

1. I know why they did the end the way they did with Two Face and Batman's decision, but if they had pared that down by 10 minutes, kept us wondering what would happen with Harvey Dent and had the audience leave the theater after Batman and Joker's final conversation I would have been much more likely to feel blown away.
2. I don't believe Harvey Dent is dead because there is too much Harvey Dent story from the comic books to cover. Nolan has been great about staying true to the characters from the comics and I seriously doubt that Two Face is actually dead.
3. What happens with the Joker in the next movie? With he and Scarecrow and Two Face (presumably) locked up together the next movie has a lot of possibilities.
4. Watchmen looks visually amazing, but if that clown of a director is allowed to touch any of the writing it's just going to be another 300. Visually incredible with the most god awful and mindless grunting and screaming in place of actual dialog.

SunMo

Zack Snyder had nothing to do with the screenplay on Watchmen according to IMDB.

They can't possibly try to include the Joker in the next movie...any actor who tries to be the Joker will be endlessly compared to Ledger

I think they'll have an equally difficult time just cutting him out of the story... he is basically the lifelong nemesis of Batman.

Also, I thought Eckhart was great as Harvey Dent and not so good as Two Face.

Completely agree with this.  Basically all Eckhart did as two face was flip a coin and yell "Shut Up!"  really loud a couple of times.  Still I would love to see him back in the 3rd film.

SunMo

you don't think he's dead..i do, but who knows

but they basically boiled the entire character down to someone out for revenge because his girlfriend got killed.

i didn't think he was that bad as Two-Face though, basically a psycho right?  i guess the real Two-Face has conflict between the good and bad in himself and Eckhart's was just crazy, but i still thought he was ok.

The more I think about it the less likely it seems that Two Face is actually dead. He was the Joker's 'Ace in the Hole', they spent the entire movie setting him up to play a big part and seemingly to have a future as a Gotham bad guy, and he's a recurring character in the Batman comics.

Of course they showed him lying there, appearing to be dead and had a big to-do about him at City Hall so I could be completely wrong. It just doesn't seem to add up...

I don't think he's dead.  I think the 3rd film is the redemption of Batman's reputation, by Two-Face breaking out of Arkham and showing the world his true nature.  I think the cops say he died to make him a martyr, and strengthen the good acts he'd already done.

I'd also like to add, for the geeks out there, who else felt that The Killing Joke was a strong part of the Harvey Dent story arc here?

harvey dent and the hope he brought to gotham is dead...two face most definitely is not

eckhart is a hack

and if they bring the joker back in any movie count me out...i will refuse to see it...you cant do it after ledgers performance..you just cant...it would be a complete trainwreck
