Heh heh.  You're very accommodating today.

Watched Annie Hall for the first time last night. I normally HATE Woddy Allen, but this was shockingly watchable. His sexual disfunction and general nervousness was more genuine and less irritating than in his endless string of films since then.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory ( Willy Wonka )

Saw a "Premiere" Screening of it tonight, courtesy of WXTU, the country station in Philly. It isn't out til Friday, so heres my take. It is no improvement on the original. Gene Wilder nailed the original as Willy Wonka, and Depp did nothing to expand on that. It is basically the same story, maybe even a bit truer to the books. Burton definetely puts his sugnature on the flick, with a little bit darker Wonka. But, Wonka comes off as a Michael Jacksonesque figure, and Charlie is a bit more wholesome, if that is possible. They do a bit of America culture bashing but overall the kids are amazingly true to the original characters. Veruca, Charlie, Mike TV, and Augustas are almost unchanged. Violet is a bit updated. The Ooopaloopas along with their songs are not as good as the original, as is Wonka. Obviously the effects are better. The Slugworth espionage subplot is totally disregarded, as are maybe the best two scenes from the original, those being the fizzy lifting drink scene, and the psychodelic boat ride (the boat ride is present, but more like a Disney amusemant than the originals acid trip). They do get into why Wonka is the man that he is, which does explain his characters wackiness.

Overall, you know the story if you saw the original, but your kids will love it. You will come away missing the original Oompahs, and appreciating the brilliance of Wilders Wonka. Wilders Wonka was a bit insane, while Depps Wonka is mentally ill, if that makes sense.

ps ... the trailer for Corpse Bride looked awesome. It is a prequal to Nightmare Before Christmas. If you liked that Burton flick, this looks like a must see.
The NFL old standard.

Oh no! They took out the fizzy drink burping scene? That was one of my favorite parts! :(

Veruca Rules. lol

Saw "Million Dollar Baby" last night and loved it. Extremely well acted. I loved the relationship between Eastwood and Freeman...it was just 2 old, old friends who were cranky and it made me laugh. Swank was awesome in it as well.

I'm seeing "Charlie" Friday night in IMAX.  Wife has been really looking forward to it.

Zanshin

Geez, I think that Charlie movie looks terrible.

I think the key is to go in without any preconceived notions.  If you can forget the first one was ever made, it'll be easier to enjoy the new one.
Anyone but Reid.

Zanshin

I'm surprised people are really excited about that movie.

I think the new one with Jodie foster coming out will be a good flick. I like Jodie foster. Solid actress. I'd love to nail her...but I heard she goes the other way....I like the roles that she plays and she plays them well.
