Hot rumor out of Hawaii:

Hawaii 5-0 headed for the big screen.  Guess who is rumored to play Steve McGarrett?  Ben Affleck.  Hey if Jennifer Garner plays Dan-o I'm all for it.

Also a rumor of Magnum PI as well with George Clooney playing the lead.

If Affleck is the star, unfortunately it's going to be a dud.  Jack Lord's hard to top in that role.

Somehow, Clooney seems to fit for Magnum.

Wife and I took in a matinee this afternoon and saw "The Wedding Crashers"...very good date movie, and well-written comedic dialogue. Probably the best non-potty-humor comedy I've seen in a few years, somewhat in the genre (but not story) of the original "Meet the Parents". Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn played well off each other. We both agreed it was better than we anticipated.

I think the new one with Jodie foster coming out will be a good flick. I like Jodie foster. Solid actress. I'd love to nail her...but I heard she goes the other way....I like the roles that she plays and she plays them well.

Saw the trailer for this today, the movie is called "Flightplan". Looks like a good thriller with some twists, and I also am a Jodie Foster fan.

Nice. Gonna try and see it tomorrow with a chick who's been my movie buddy for a while.

Next Sunday = Johnny Depp Willie Wonka at the flicks in the afternoon, Gene Wilder Willie Wonka on TV in the evening and then the, ahem, adult version, Willie Wanchor, at bedtime! :D

Watched Kissing Jessica Stein last night. Got talked into it by the ladyfriend but it was surprisingly good. Until the last ten minutes. Whoever wrote the damn thing had no idea how to end it. He knew that the main characters were going to have to end up seperating but couldn't make it interesting or believable. Whatever.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Agreed. Laughed the whole time. This might have been Vaughn's best (not including Swingers) work.

"Charlie":  Very stunning movie.  Those who can sit there and simply say "the original is better" are stubborn and ludicrous.  I happen to like Wilder's portrayal of Willy more, but I've never read the book, so I don't know which is more true to character.  I do know that the original movie pissed off Roald Dahl something fierce, because of the fizzy lifting scene, which is not in the book.  Charlie is supposed to be a squeaky-clean kid, and he is in the new version.  I liked this version of the Oompah Loompahs more than the original (and the music), but you might not.

Anyway, we saw it on IMAX, and it was a great night at the movies.  With the colors and sounds and effects, it would probably play better on the big screen, whereas a movie like "Wedding Crashers" would likely be just as good on DVD.  I would recommend this movie highly for people that enjoyed the first one OR enjoy Tim Burton's stuff in general.  It's not going to win any big-time Oscars or convince fans of the original it's better, but it really was an excellent movie.

"War of the Worlds":  See it in the theater, or don't.  It's not an amazing story with unbelievable acting.  Tom Cruise is ok, Dakota Fanning screams a lot, stuff blows up.  It is probably one of the best, if not THE best, special effects movies I've ever seen.  However, you leave feeling more like you've just seen Spielberg slightly screw with a classic, rather than do it immense justice.

"Life Aquatic" was a piece of crap.  Tried too hard to be "campy" and just ended up being unfunny.

SD_Eagle5

Life Aquatic had some funny scenes but it was definitely not Wes Anderson's best.

Wedding Crashers was very funny but I didn't like the sloppy love ending. The funniest part of the movie was the opening wedding montage, after that it was funny, but nothing else compared.

On a sidenote..the girl (Diora Baird) who has a two line exchange with Owen Wilson ("Are you completely full of shtein?") is on the cover of this month's Playboy and she is smoking hot.
