hurt locker - excellently done...was actually more of a suspense than a war movie...real edge of your seat shtein and it showed the day by day mundane aspects of being in a war...at least i imagine it did...accurate or not it portrayed it in a much better way than the awful jarhead did

7.5/10

500 days of summer - just an outstanding romantic dramedy...its plays out of order with the start of each scene showing what day out of the 500 days they were together it is...contains none of the awful cliches you find so much in this genre...you know from the opening scene that they will not end up together and that makes the movie frustrating in a great way...its amazing how its so well done that even tho you know the ending you find yourself still rooting for gordon joseph levitts character to end up with the girl and you feel like even tho its against everything you know that it still might happen...btw he is such an great underrated actor

8.5/10

I would like to watch Hurt Locker, but right now I am just not far enough removed from that type of situation.  While I wasn't EOD which is what the movie is about, I did work directly with them and went out and hunted bombs.

Its funny you bring up Jarhead, while I am not a Marine I found it to be a pretty accurate portrayal of military life.  I liked in the fact it was realistic, I didn't like the fact it seems to be mostly about what sucks about it.

yeah you would obviously know better than i how realistic it was...im not saying either movie is or isnt...im saying if they both are hurt locker pulled it off much better

hurt locker also incorporated a ton of tense moments as well...jarhead was literally a movie about being bored...its really difficult to make a movie like that entertaining (see castaway)

Yeah that movie is pretty farging awful. The cast is amazing but the movie was made about 5 years before any of them learned how to act.
Gary Oldman is pretty amazing in it.
But the rest of it, something is just wrong. Online reviewers were complaining that it got ignored b/c Goodfellas came out in the same year, and it was a better movie. Which is just downright silly.

jumpers - cool idea, bad execution with way too many holes in the plot.  1.5/5

at the same time its going to be a good movie but it wont be enjoyable

just like kill bill and pretty much like every movie hes done since pulp fiction...you tell yourself you should like it a lot and you want to like it a lot and just before you do you realize that the movie isnt all that good

jackie brown
kill bill
death proof

thats it thats the list since pulp

now tell me if any of those movies are anything more than just good

at the same time if they are on tv you will almost certainly tune in for a peep or five but never will you watch them straight thru

the idea of a tarantino movie is much better than an actual tarantino movie...which is why you want to love them so much but you cant

I love Kill Bill. Both volumes. Own them and watch them straight through regularly. But please continue telling us all which movies we like and don't like.

his movies don't have to be good in a conventional sense because he doesn't make conventional movies. he has his own style and does his own thing. if you like it you like if you don't you don't. i respect that more than anyone trying to conform to hollywood/advertising ways.
