Yesterday Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell made a mockery of the Senate and embarrassed himself and the Republican party as a whole by asking for a vote on a bill the President supports--giving the President control over whether to raise the debt ceiling--because he thought the Democrats wouldn't take up the vote.  The idea, apparently, was to show that the Democrats don't support one of Obama's explicit requests.

But Harry Reid agreed to vote, presumably because he's got the votes to pass it.

At that point, McConnell realized he was in deep shtein and he filibustered his own bill.  PR stunt FAIL.  icehole.

The Republican party is a farce.  We're headed for some interesting times because of it.  As a liberal, I'm happy to see them so broken and ineffectual, because the Democrats will govern much more to my liking.  But it's also a terrible thing for the country to have only one party that's worth a damn.  Without someone pushing them, the Democrats are going to make a cockup of a lot of things, watch.
