General_Failure

Well, he admitted a mistake. Until the defense shows they're better without him, you can't call it a righted wrong.

The man. The myth. The legend.

I'm actually surprised by the poor Juan sentiment and the backlash against Andy.

I'm glad he dumped him. Castillo was a fabulous OL coach and it probably a great guy. He lobbied for the job and sold Andy in it. Andy bears responsibility for buying into it and hiring him but Juan also must take heat for not performing and being overwhelmed.

Andy righted a wrong - granted a wrong he created - but he pulled the plug. Years ago he would have turned a blind eye to it and continued to prop Juan up.

shame lurie didnt have the balls 5 years ago to light a fire under andys ass then maybe some more critical moves would have been made. loyalty is a crusher in the nfl

firing juanny is like the time mitt romney corrected one his donors when he called obama a stillupfront. he told him to call him boy instead.

just about everything about this team besides shady and pimp suck. the o line, the qb, the d line, the linebackers, the secondary, the coaching, the front office, the depth. its all farging terrible.

and its not one of those fixable rah rah rah get better work harder problems. its one of those they are what they are problems.

who in their right mind thought they were winning the super bowl let alone 8 games
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

the offensive line is a mess.  it's because of injuries mostly but they weren't world-beaters when they were all healthy.  you can thank reid for that because it was his genius idea to draft a 50 year-old canadian fireman instead of a legit offensive lineman and not plan accordingly or sufficiently for injuries to kelce or peters.  the skill guys are borderline excellent, so i'm obviously in disagreement there.  in terms of defense, it's more scheme than player deficiency.  they have guys who can ball on that side, but the biggest problem was hiring a totally unprepared and incompetent coordinator who may have been liked by the players, but definitely not respected.

in short, it's a mess all around, but until reid and morningwig are gone, there's nothing that is going to happen that will radically improve their super bowl hopes.

the roster has more than enough players to win a superbowl....except where it really counts...quarterback

the one other really bad spot
defensive coordinator
is now fixed

the problem there is that even tho bowles is a massive improvement no matter how good a coach he is is it possible to institute a new defensive system or philosophy on the fly??...thats asking a lot of anyone

he doesnt say much except that the wide nine isnt going anywhere...which makes sense as i dont think its very likely a guy can change a defensive scheme mid season....the biggest change may come from the players themselves...i would expect them to produce at a higher level for no other reason than they are playing for someone they respect

QuoteBefore today, Todd Bowles was in charge of the Eagles' secondary. Now, his job is to come up with a game-plan for the entire defense.

That includes finding a way to improve a pass-rush that has gone without a sack the last three games.

The first step is diagnosing the problem.

"It's a little bit of everything," Bowles said. "Part of the time, the ball's coming out quick. Part of the time, they're max protecting. Part of the time we've got to beat one-on-ones. And part of the time, coaching-wise, we've got to scheme it better and help those guys get free."

As for the wide-nine, Bowles said it's here to stay, also pointing out that he'll still let Jim Washburn still do most of the coaching on the defensive line.

"It's staying in-tact," Bowles said. "I mean, we run a wide-nine. That's what we do. But game-plan wise, it depends on whether we do other things along with it.

"The 4-3 has been around a long time. This is not a new system. They put the ends a yard wider, and everybody thinks it's a new system, but it's been around for a long time."

Earlier in the day, Andy Reid talked about needing to blitz at the right time. It's not a case of calling more blitzes, Reid said, but rather making sure the extra pressure is effective. Asked for his philosophy on blitzing, Bowles said, "If it works, it's great. If it's not, don't do it."

"Hopefully, timely pressure," he said. "You can't blitz too much or too little. Too much of one thing leads them to do another. So game-plan wise, and schematically, it all has to fit in during the week."

As for the secondary, Bowles said they'll continue to use a mix of man and zone coverages. The new defensive coordinator left the impression that he's flexible. You're not going to see the same thing every week. He'll tweak the scheme depending on the opponent and the situation.

"It all depends on what you're trying to take away," Bowles said. "If it's a quick passing team, all you can do is get pressure, let it go early. Depending on what we have in the back or what's outside, we'll either pressure or lay back more, depending on the game-plan."

The most surprising part of the Eagles this year is the lack of pressure/sacks from the defensive line. Babin and Cole, for instance, are routinely single-teamed and still not getting to the QB. The whole point of the wide nine is to sacrifice some contain to get that pressure.

The other problems with the team are all somewhat expected:
-Vick turning the ball over like he's being paid to do it (wait, maybe he is?)
-Shady not getting enough touches
-Vick throwing a lot of incredible-looking but inaccurate deep passes
-the OL looking like swiss cheese sans Peters and Kelce
-the linebackers being a notch better but not generally game-changing
-the average safety play and lack of depth behind them
-the craptastic return game
-questionable gameplanning, in-game coaching, and time management
-wanting to slit wrists after reading the above list

and even with all that they have a better record than pittsburgh and the same record as new england denver and green bay...to be fair they also have a worse record than arizona (and got smashed by them) and seattle

and its not like they have weak wins...beat the giants and are the only team to beat the ravens

W vs. atlanta and all is well

ebbs and flows....

If they win but give up say 27+ pts in doing so, I don't think all will be well. I think it's just as important for the defense to show some signs of improvement, especially up front, as it is for the team to get a W.

It also wouldn't hurt for Vick to protect the football.

ice grillin you

much more important for vick to play well than for the defense to improve...defense is easily good enough (provided colt anderson is not one of their safeties)

giants were 25th in pts allowed last year...in the new and frankly watered down nfl you no longer need a great defense to win

this would be a really nice to be able to get someone liek this at this point in the season..

QuoteOffensive lineman Chris Williams will visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after he was summoned to Halas Hall to clean out his locker.

The Bears terminated the contract of Williams, a first-round draft pick in 2008, on Tuesday and he considered multiple opportunities before choosing to visit the Eagles.

Philadelphia has been juggling its offensive line since left tackle Jason Peters went out in the offseason with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

"Now, I will get an opportunity to go play somewhere, and I'm excited about that," Williams told the Tribune on Tuesday. "The Bears are a good team, they will do well and I will miss the guys. It sucks being released and that type of thing. But sitting on the bench here for the whole year wasn't going to help me in free agency. Now, I'll get a chance somewhere else."

In nearly 4 1/2 seasons, Williams made 38 starts for the Bears, with 20 coming at left guard after he was drafted 14th overall to solve the team's long-term issue at left tackle. Williams did not start this season and was inactive for the last two games.

Williams had a contract for $1 million. Because he is a vested veteran, he can claim termination pay and the Bears would be on the hook for the remaining $588,235. Basically, termination pay allows a player to double dip and get paid by two clubs simultaneously.

The Bears have Jonathan Scott in place as a swing tackle now. Williams also can play guard but the team has two interior reserves: Chris Spencer and Edwin Williams.

The Bears filled Williams' roster spot with another 2008 draft classmate: cornerback Zack Bowman, who had departed via free agency after last season. He is expected to help on special teams.

an oline maybe worse than the eagles and he can't play for them?  i'm underwhelmed.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

he would instantly start and be better than the fireman...and he couldnt be worse at tackle than demetress bell...and even if he was a back up he would be their best

the fireman cannot play
whether you sign williams or not
danny watkins cannot be the starting rg against atlanta

In the playoffs last year:

Giants 24, Hotlanta 2
Giants 37, Green Bay 20 (4 sacks, 3 fumbles recovered and a pick, and one of those TDs was in garbage time)
Giants 20, 49ers 17 (OT)
Giants 21, Pats 17...the Giants didn't allow a score after 11:20 in the 3rd
