I normally agree with igy more than I disagree regarding movies but I just got back and really liked it.

I'm surprised the reviews weren't more polarizing because I can see people hating it too.

It is NOT a horror movie.  Best I can do is to say it has a very meta feel to it and has a Sam Raimi feel to it but slightly campier.  It's really hard to say more without getting into specifics.

This is the Harry Potter girl now.  Wow.

yeah you could tell she was going to be hot a few years ago.

holy mother farging shtein--I have never seen a worst "horror" or whatever movie that was in my entire life.

cabin in the woods is hands down, unequivocally going down as the most overrated movie by critics in the history of movies. not a clue what they were watching, as i was completely embarrassed sitting through a movie like that.

igy was dead right on this.

Munson

Screw the movie, let's talk more about Emma Watson mmm...

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

****DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE PLANS ON SEEING CABIN IN THE WOODS****

Regarding everything which was going on -- I basically took it as an entire send up of the genre itself.  The people inside the control room were essentially playing a duel role as horror movie creators and the audience.  The movie made fun of all sorts of genre cliches -- the old creepy redneck telling the kids not to do something, the trap floor which blows open and the people inevitably wander down...they even are basically saying that screenwriters have to interject shtein to make their characters do stupid stuff in horror movies like with the girl getting naked to have sex, the guy saying lets split up etc.  The entire idea that the slut needs to die first, the virgin has to survive till the end but in some movies she lives and others she dies, the other stereotypes with the fool/geek/alpha-male hero type.  And then of course with the millions of references to other genres in the ridiculous last 30 minutes as all the monsters break out.  Not to mention the callous attitude people seem to have about others getting tortured to death on screen which I think was intentionally critiqued on the part of the people in the control room by showing how they all didn't give a farg and/or were happy.

Anyway, it had its flaws but I found it really entertaining.  Not really what I was expecting and not at all a horror movie but I enjoyed it.

you can write 7 more paragraphs explaining the movie and all its plots, intentions and what not...but it was not entertaining, clever or captivating what-so-ever.

to each his own, but Im chalking this one up as the biggest choke of good critic reviews of all time.

Eagles_Legendz

haha that's fine -- like I said, i can see the movie being highly polarizing and was pretty shocked after watching it that there weren't more incredibly negative reviews.

i found it entertaining and intelligent but i can see why people wouldn't like it.

Diomedes

I've haven't seen it but I guarantee it farging sucks.

^^That's how it's done around here, amirite?

debating horror movies

you guys are farging nerds
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Rome

I don't watch horror movies period so I'm good with the bad reviews.  I'd be good with excellent ones too.

And LOL @ Dio.

Spot on, my man.

ice grillin you

see it tried be clever and irreverent...which explains why the critics love it....cause critics often wanna be the smartest guys in the room and act like they "get" stuff...but its wasnt clever...scream was clever....this was pretentious awfulness at possibly the highest levels that man has ever reached
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Eagles_Legendz

no doubt that scream was a horror movie with all sorts of clever nods and stuff mixed in, but it was a horror movie first and foremost.  this was not a horror movie at all but i was still entertained by it.

Finally saw Moneyball and it was pretty good
