IGY, I don't copy paste. Unlike yourself, I not only pay attention to things and come to my own conclusions, I find a way to word those thoughts coherently and concentrate on my own argument. Further, fiscal experts say Obama's campaign promise to protect families making less than $250,000 from tax hikes is unworkable in the long term.

And yet, the Republican manifesto is considerably worse than the administration's current policy. Keeping all of the Bush tax cuts, including the breaks for those making more than $250,000, would add $3.7 trillion to the deficit over 10 years. Ending those for higher earners, as Obama hopes to do, would subtract some $700 billion from that sum.

Interviewed on National Public Radio, David Stockman, Reagan's budget director, said House Republicans "are telling the people of America that we can solve . . . the deficit we're facing and the debt we're building up by not raising taxes on anyone. That, in my judgment, is a big lie.''

Indeed, according to the Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank, when you also factor in the new tax breaks in the pledge, the GOP's blueprint would add $1.5 trillion more to the 10-year deficit than Obama's plans.
