the flyers need a goalie, and one possibility was traded.

Flyers trade Parent for Hamhuis.

Now they do, he wanted an extension at the deadline, that was the supposed hold up. He's only 27 but he's legit, Parents only 5 years younger and his ceiling is Hamhuis level. He's going to command $4-5 million per which is a ton when you already have your top 4 set, a bunch of RFA's to sign, and are in desperate need for a goalie which won't come cheap. If they can get him signed and ship one of Hartnell/Briere/Gagne/Carter off for a goalie then this becomes a great move.

Love the trade.  Gotta wonder how the scf would have turned out if floodville wasn't insisting on coburn as the price.  Main difference between parent and hamhuis is the latter hits and can lay people out.  He's a master of the hipcheck.  Makes me think theyare sticking with Leighton now with a great d core.  Pronger/carle. Kimmo/hamhuis. Coburn /bartulis/Marshall

I think Holmgren gets raped in a draft day deal for a goalie, teams know they're desperate. Leighton stays as the backup.
