They've spent $51mil today on Burleson and VandenBosch. Major LOL.

$21 million--those players wont see close to that

regardless, they still overpaid the guarantees just to get people back in the seats

DH

If a QB selected #1 overall didn't put asses in seats, Im pretty sure signing those 2 guys wont.

Nate Burleson to the Lions for 5/$25M.  How does this guy keep getting paid?

I always asked myself the same question about Michael Clayton on the Bucs--somehow these guys keep getting paid

Drunkmasterflex

Vanden Bosch is understandable, but Nate Burleson? Really? That dude hasn't been a factor since he was with the Vikings.

actually when i think about it its the opposite

vandenbosch is junk without haynesworth in the rotation, hasnt done shtein in 2 years, and will be 32 in nov

burleson was one of the tops in the league in receptions the first 8 games or so last year then collapsed as usual with injuries. if he can stay healthy, then it could be worth it opposite calvin johnson...but thats a big IF and that right there is not worth the 11 million guaranteed

Not happening with Stafford at the helm.

reese125

I dont know...staffords going to get better, another year in the system, decent run game, 2 outside threats...could be ok from a putting a points perspective

but the defense is atrocious and will still give up 30/game

DH

Kind of off topic, but that Lions/Browns game was the game of the year.

DH

Gibril Wilson just cut...I have a funny feeling he'll be here on a 1 year deal come May.

they have no depth because they traded away all their draft picks...

Meaning that they didn't have to pay any of their draft picks, especially the high draft picks, which they wouldn't have been able to because they were constantly right up against the cap.

Signing free agents to huge contracts and trading away draft picks for older more expensive players is behavior that is punished by design under the cap system and the taterskins proved that out beautifully.

they didnt get punished by the cap because they continued to spend whatever they wanted when they wanted...they got punished by their own incompetance...does the cap literally have no effect on what teams can do...of course not...it would exist if it did...like a single team couldnt sign the top 8 free agents in a particular year but it also doesnt stop any one team from signing the top free agent in a particular year

and draft picks have their own rookie pay pool...the cap doesnt affect them
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

I'm pretty sure the rookie pool is counted towards the cap.

it does which is why the rookie salaries are a big deal that is going to be worked on in the next cba.
