Anyone involved in suppressing scientific information of any sort should be ashamed and called out for it and whatever other punishment we have in the system for science nerds should be applied... but the idea that this has ANY impact on the volumes of scientific research that has been peer-reviewed and quantifiably shows a correlation between human activity/population and the environment, is laughable.

I read a great article about this last week that I would dig up and post if I cared enough, but the gist is this:

Right thinking people put their faith in the scientific community to help them make informed decisions about their lives. Whether that's avoiding trans fats or giving up smoking or how to exercise efficiently or conserve the world's resources, we all rely on science and trust it because it should be, and almost always is, unbiased. We have a situation now where science has been under attack by politicians (in the name of big business). Science had repeatedly proven to be the victor in this battle despite politics waging a relentless war. Now, when science had very clearly proven its point and was finally making progress in the direction it recommended, this diversion pops up. Does it disprove any of the research that was peer reviewed and published and used to educate everyone? No. But it calls a small number of the people and methods into question and drives a wedge between us and our trust of the scientific community. It inserts doubt into the situation, throwing the door of debate wide open again.

People are too stupid collectively to see the big picture (which is why abortion is an issue in the healthcare debate) so details throw us off the scent easily and give undue credence to who-ever is opposing reason for financial/political reasons. They don't have any valid arguments, but they do have the ability to introduce doubt in the face of people who DO have valid arguments and that gives them validity because people are idiots.

So the TARP abortion is going to cost $200 Billion less than originally estimated.

The choice now becomes what to do with that money. Republicans want it to be applied to the national debt. Democrats want to apply it to an effort to create jobs. I think both options are good ones. Either way, good news.

The spending is getting a little steep, but that's what you gotta do in a recession...cut taxes and increase spending.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
