the demographic of people voting for republicans is shrinking while the demographic of dem voters is growing fast.

That'll change again in twenty years when this generation's surge of young Democrats realizes they totally forgot to have children.

The man. The myth. The legend.

mpmcgraw

Sargey boy that's not my point.

Hispanics and blacks who both vote overwhelmingly for dems are growing at a much higher rate than whites especially the former. This is a HUGE problem for the republicans going forward. They are either going to have to cater to these groups ( stop being racist would help) or die.  Whites were something like 90% of the pop 30 years ago. They are 76 now.

What you're failing to realize is that the definition of 'liberal' and 'conservative' change over time. Party affiliations change over time. The Chairman of the Republican party is black. Would that have been possible in the 70s? In the 60s southern Democrats would have soiled themselves at the thought of a black leader. A Republican president is responsible for outlawing slavery. 30 years from now the minority population will be bigger, true, but what people consider Democrat and Republican will have changed too.

Take racial biggotry out of the equation and what do you have? A Repucblican party that (incessantly) wants to cut taxes and caters to the religious... think any minorities in this country might find that appealing? That's over-simplfying of course, but if you think that the minority population's voting patterns won't change as their numbers grow you're out of your mind.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

Absolutely.  That's what I was saying.  Many Republicans are conservative which by definition means they don't want to change.  The fact that they will HAVE to if they want to be relevant in any sort of way in the future is good because the status quo right now is unacceptable.  Many Americans are change averse, those many Americans are Republicans.

Honestly after Obama is done I'll be surprised if the African Americans don't start getting pulled to the right hard.
Hispanics are a completely different story though.  We're talking HUGE shifts in ideology.  Republicans lead the charge on immigration reform, ridiculously large fences, and as far as I can tell are the ones pushing the no habla en espanol thing.

He all but said he would do this in the run up to the election.

I'm really confused that people were surprised by this.

because politicians usually don't do what they said they would during the election campaign.

But yeah IGs this was in fact one of the platforms he was running on....that he'd get troops out of Iraq, but put more into Afghanistan. Most people actually agree with that stance I would think.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

mpmcgraw

This has been a problem, Obama was so good and believable with the platitudes in his speeches people just assumed he believed what they believe.

I doubt thats the case with igy, but yeah.

Is there even one thing he's done that he said he would?
