Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I largely agree about our Founding Fathers being Terrorists. Sure, to us they're seen as heroes but to the British they were total scum. This doesn't mean that it's fair to compare them to today's Islamic fundamentalists, though.

This is all besides the point. The point was that Reagan didn't give a shtein about the Afghan people and was talking out his ass. I'd argue the Soviets actually cared more about the Afghan people than Reagan did.

Reagan didn't care about the Afgan people per se because cared about stopping Communism and fighting the Soviets via a proxy war.  If the war had been in ATVisamoronland, he would have supported the ATVisamorons in their fight against the Soviets.

You're a total idiot for saying the Soviets cared about the Afgans at all.  I mean, I cannot even fathom how you could "argue" that the Soviets did anything for the Afgan people.

Quote
Over 1 million Afghans were killed.[73] 5 million Afghans fled to Pakistan and Iran, 1/3 of the prewar population of the country. Another 2 million Afghans were displaced within the country. In the 1980s, one out of two refugees in the world was an Afghan.[74]

Along with fatalities were 1.2 million Afghans disabled (mujahideen, government soldiers and noncombatants) and 3 million maimed or wounded (primarily noncombatants).[75]

Irrigation systems, crucial to agriculture in Afghanistan's arid climate, were destroyed by aerial bombing and strafing by Soviet or government forces. In the worst year of the war, 1985, well over half of all the farmers who remained in Afghanistan had their fields bombed, and over one quarter had their irrigation systems destroyed and their livestock shot by Soviet or government troops, according to a survey conducted by Swedish relief experts.

Let's say some foreign power helps supply Iraqis with weapons and the Iraqis successfully boot the U.S. out of their country. Then that same foreign power totally neglects and ignores the Iraqis after helping to create the power vacuum leading to years of civil war and the rise of a brutal oppressive fundamentalist regime. Who then would have cared more about the Iraqis? The U.S. which was (supposedly) there to "nation build" or the foreign power which used the Iraqi people as tools in their proxy war?

By the way, as if we haven't killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis ourselves, as well as rape and torture.

Not quite sure why Foser takes such pains to attack Campbell Brown there.   She's a journalistic featherweight and I'm fairly certain no one takes her seriously.

Diomedes

she gets a lot more credit than she deserves, mostly from people who are at pains to demonstrate they aren't misogynists

MSNBC is crap.  So is every other major news outlet on television.   In fact, I can't remember the last time I even watched one of them.  Obama's inauguration, maybe?

Jeebus you are a dumb one.  Dubya was getting drunk and doing blow at the time of the Soviet invasion and the aftermath that followed.  I know most leftists still have a massive hard-on for the man even though he's been out of office for nearly a year but lets try to stay on topic mmm-k?

The Soviets were worried that the guy who was winning the civil war wasn't going to be there buddy, so they invaded.  They were not there on some sort of humanitarian mission, or to "nation build" (which by the way is one of the most ridiculous phrases ever).  They were there to secure their own interests, not those of the Afgan people and slaughtered hundreds of thousands if not millions to do it.

So again I ask...how did the Soviets do that for the benefit of the Afgans?

I support a wholesale withdrawal from Afghanistan, if anyone is keeping track.
