You said the Soviets "cared" about the Afghans.  That implies "help" because there is no alternative to their invasion.
I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

Don't put words in my mouth. Copy and paste. I'll continue to sit here patiently.

Don't backpedal you Hoyda.  At least have the intellectual courage to stand up for what you wrote instead of trying to play a game of semantics.

I never wrote that the Soviets invaded Afghanistan to help the Afghans or that they cared about the Afghans. I wrote that I'd be willing to argue that they cared more about the Afghans than we did.

Again,  let's say some foreign power helps supply Iraqis with weapons and the Iraqis successfully boot the U.S. out of their country. Then that same foreign power totally neglects and ignores the Iraqis after helping to create the power vacuum leading to years of civil war and the rise of a brutal oppressive fundamentalist regime. Who then would have cared more about the Iraqis? The U.S. or the foreign power which used the Iraqi people as tools in their proxy war?

Why do you insist on comparing two completely different wars, in completely different times?  The US invaded a stable country and made it unstable, and the Soviets invaded an unstable country and made it more unstable.

I get it...George Bush is Satan.  Iraq was is/was wrong.  Got it.  Check.

Now, explain how that has anything to do with Afghanistan in 1979?

Oh, and I'm the one consumed with semantics? Also, I wish you would stop calling me names. You know that hurts my feelings.

I assume you agree with the Iraqi example then? That the hypothetical foreign power would have cared even less than the United States about the Iraqi people?

Never mind. I give up. You're unable to think in the abstract. Obviously Iraq and Afghanistan have drastically different sounding names and the events we're talking about would have happened within almost thirty years of eacother.

The Anti-Obama revolution strikes its first win in Virginia... Mcdonnell wins in a rout.

Yes, lets rejoice in one step closer to getting nothing done and voting against Obama just because he's a democrat and soandso Republican senatorrepwhatever is a Republican.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Yes.. i will rejoice... because ATV sat on here quoting polls and statistics saying that Virginia and New Jersey wouldn't go red.  Virginia is already red... NJ is too close to call.

I'm glad that this thread has degenerated into the fringes arguing with one another and completely abandoned all premise of reasonable thought.

It justifies my decision to stop post/reading in this thread.

You're seriously all clowns.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.
