I'm enjoying an active duty military man taking part in this conversation about 'war being war' from the point of view of someone who has actually served. Ha. Way to go bowzer.

Agreed, but who could have foresaw what would happen.... after all, the enemy of my enemy is friend.
But, with the geography, and tribal nature of Afghanistan, it could be argued that a long term occupation would never have been successful.

we chose the wrong enemy to be friends with in that fight. 

at the time, a long term occupation may or may not have been possible.  but with todays technology and a much better trained military that's more capable of roughing it in the cold mountains over there, it's much more possible today than it was then.

can't view the video at work because the gov't blocked all streaming web video but i'm going to guess that he's calling it completely unneccessary and that the only "purpose" it really serves is letting the few individuals who are doing the torturing take out their frustrations on the prisoner.  because at this point in time, i think that torture benefits the torturer even more than our country would benefit from any information extracted.  it makes the person feel more powerful, more in control and is an opportunity to seek revenge against the prisoner. 

like i said, i've had some friends come home in body bags and at times there's nothing more that i'd like to do then hunt them down and watch them die slow and painful deaths.  but i'm not going to let those feelings get the best of me and take me down to their level.  none of us should.  we're supposed to be better than that.

I think it's hilarious you think I'm like this war monger that just wants blood and death.  I hate war.  I've seen and heard how it's farged up people in my family for generations. 

This whole issue arose because I said they should not be going after the agents who carried out the waterboarding.  Wrong or right, it's compromising to our intelligence agencies if we do so.
